The More I Want (feat Rox)
Take That
Review: Exclusive Ram signing DC Breaks follow up their 2009 smash hit "Pickett Line" on sub-label Frequency with another hands-in-the-air anthem featuring lush, soaring vocals from Rox. DC Breaks fans may remember her from the duo's superb remix of "My Baby Left Me" a year or so ago. Catering for the Annie Mac market this time, they blend rolling percussion with sonorous, melodic strings and finish it with a glossy polish. "Take That", up next, kicks off with unnerving notes, sci-fi synth swoops and sweeping strings, before dropping into classic Ram tear out, complete with rowdy bassline, growling vocal sample and soaring synths aplenty. Massive.

Review: Little over 12 months has passed since the release of long-established D&B producer DLR's debut album, but he's already dropped the follow-up. This abridged, DJ-friendly version contains six tracks spread across two slabs of wax, including two tunes - punchy roller "Time Wasting", and the humid, tropical-tinged percussion assault that is "When Tribes Collide" - that aren't available on digital download editions. According to the artist, the album was inspired by classic D&B and jungle, and the cuts here, most notably the Break hook-up "Wonder What It Feels Like" and Ed Rush & Optical style closer "Trip Up", certainly back up that assertion.

Review: Nolige is power: heritage heavyweight SB81 takes us back to the source with three ravishingly rusty breakbeat slammers. "90s" captures the hardcore trajectory into jungle perfectly with its wall-of-sound style drums and menacing basses beneath. "Memories Of You" whisks us a little further down the decade when Alex Reece reminded us of the sunshine. Finally "Pache" provides a whiplash dash back to 91 with embittered hoover stabs, more broad-shouldered breaks and iced out atmospherics. Nostalgia is power.

Review: Within a few years, Lynn Standafer became a well-recognized artist in the breakcore-related scene. His output is tremendous - not too long after 'The End', he presents his' new fulltime release, featuring guest appearances by DJ Hidden, Speaker Wrath, Somatic Responses, Submerged and Silentkiller. 'Form Without Function' might follow what started with 'Comparing Paths': a direction's turn from the raw sampling - and breakbeat madness of his earlier works to a 21st century version of drum and bass with added breaks, ragga vocals and tight-fit sample work. The basic of most tracks on this album is a continuation of what started with acts like Panacea in the 90s - straight-forward d'n'b with mighty, pounding basslines. Combined with the styles mentioned above, it's not only a 'mixture', it's a style on it's own - 100% Enduser. The rough moods of many breakcore acts cannot be found here - 'Form Without Function' is a straight and tight release without causing eardrums to shatter. When the speed is turned down as in 'Keep Telling' it's time to relax a bit before 'The Choke' will keep you moving again. The slightly melancholic 'By A Thread' with it's bright piano is the perfect conclusion for this album. A truly fine example for a well-done work of art by one of the challengers of break-based sound.

Review: Though the name Gouseion may be unfamiliar to you, you may well have heard his work in the past. Cassidy Demarco, as he is known to his friends, keeps himself busy by recording under an astounding eleven aliases, including C++, Monodec and Minijack, as well as participating in three collaborative projects. "Puisne" is a record that blends and bastardises electronica with hip-hop, breakcore and more. Using lofi 8-bit sounds with seriously heavy production techniques, every sound cuts through the mix and forces you to fall head first into the body-moving rhythms and jarring synth lines on offer.

Where You Should Be (Shy FX remix)
Review: Tempa drop another single from Skream's 2010 all conquering Outside The Box album in the shape of the awesome "Where You Should Be". Whilst the track features the vocal talents of Sam Frank, they are so heavily subjected to vocoder that his lyrics meld into the spiralling array of keyboard hooks and twilight tinged arpeggiated synth lines - with suitably woozy results. On the flip Digital Soundboy boss and all round legend Shy FX drops a killer remix which starts with the Mtume "Juicy" riddim before switching to more familiar rolling junglist pressure ably assisted by some sweet additional female vocals. Watch out for that half time drop! Also look out for a second all remix twelve with a suitably heavyweight line up.

Review: For the latest volume in its ongoing Rollers mix series, V Recordings offshoot Chronic has asked experienced Brazilian DJ/producer L-Side to handle mixing duties. He naturally does a fine job, working his way through 21 tracks from such rising talents as Jaybee, Command Strange, Serum, Fiaco and Euphorics. The mix is naturally slick, with L-Side selecting cuts that tend towards the spacey and rolling, whilst retaining the punchy D&B breaks and cyber-sonic sub-bass that Chronic is renowned for. Highlights and plentiful, and include the revivalist jungle riddims of "Meditate" by Need For Mirrors, the bruising sub-bass and hip-hop vocal snatches of L-Side's "Soundclash", and the unstoppable weightiness of Command Strange's "Unlimited Bass".

Review: Cooking up a storm since 2009: for Ingredients' 50th feast they've recruited a collection of chefs old and new. Spirit cooks the starters. A life-long friend of the label since its earliest releases, his "Interstate" tickles the tastebuds with a pan-fried reese and peppered snare shots. Response and his brother Pilskin cook up a hearty main; detuned synths served on a bed of crushed drums and an old school reduction and a light spraying of jungle foam. Finally the bossman Clive teams up with Response for a bitter sweet desert with burnt crumb bass gloom and devilled drum roll pastries. Sonically scrumptious.

"Expose" is a deep breath stepper, all lean, naked but shrouded in mystery. There's a lot going on in the subs and pads too. True craft.

Trunk (feat MC Coppa) (5:00)
No Escape (feat Nitri) (5:16)
Review: Level 2 and DJ Chap continue to demolish the dance with their currently-spotless Alibi project; "Trunk" is a conga-weaving roller with all the hallmark ingredients of a timeless classic heads-down roller; tight percussion, creeping basses and subtle bars from Coppa, everything about it is deep, dark and dangerous. "No Escape", featuring fellow Sao Paulo artist Nitri, is more of a late night fast lane stepper. Laced with techy textures but driven by a precision groove break and heaps of space, it's a smack back to the darker sounds of the early 2000s before everything went hyper. Extremely well played.

Review: Oxford Dictionary have just confirmed that the new definition of heavyweight is simply a photo of this ridiculously impressive Commix remix album. Both Metalheadz and the Cambridge duo deserve a golf clap for selecting the cream of the techno and dubstep crop to rework tracks from their seminal album Call To Mind. Burial's remix finally sees release after two years of lurking in the Metalheadz archives, but the droning atmospherics of his rework is more than matched here. Kassem Mosse drops a heavy techno throb atop the oscilatting rhythmic stutter of "Strictly" whilst Steve Spacek's voice is married to abrasive half step syncopation that punches through the mid frequency bass of Pangaea's remix of "How You Gonna Feel". Dave Huisman delivers another superlative turn as A Made Up Sound transforming "Change" into a mind bending industrial techno/dubstep cross pollination. Underground Resistance equal this in the impressive stakes with a remix of "Satellite Song" that ripples with futuristic menace. Essential!

Hear My Call
Review: This is the tribal track has been rinsed on plate by the likes of Pendulum, Dieselboy, Hive, Gridlok, Klute, and too many other top DJ's to mention. Dom has kept the essence very simple on this one, meticulously crafting instrumentation samples, (courtesy of 'Asian Dub Foundation') into this deep drum and bass roller of gargantuan proportions. Bass riffs bounce off each other under the powerful command of the searing vocals hypnotising the listener into a delirious trance like state. AA: Electric Smile - Dom & Roland is more of a drum and bass song than average track. It has a distinctly old skool feel reminiscent of the Metalhead's blue note era of the late 90's. It starts with magnificent piano chords and strings entwined with sultry yearning vocals. At the end of the second verse the song climaxes as you are plunged into the chorus-like 'drop' of the tune. This features Dom's largest bass sound yet to date; a catchy vocal hook and his trademark stepped amen push the song into its next phase. For the next verse, sounds take the place of vocals, further engrossing the listener, the chorus is then re-visited before the song ends as spectacularly as it has begun. Even ya 'granny' could appreciate this one.

Here they kick start 2011 with a transfer to Tricksta's Nu-Directions imprint and an extended digital EP of dark, atmospheric rollers. In keeping with Tricksta's forward-thinking ethos, the beats are varied and the grooves intricate. The IDM-flavored "Lazers" is a particular delight, alongside the skittish dubstep/D&B fusion "Panoramic Views". Look out, too, for the heady, smoky delights of club bangers "Moving Pictures" and "Medallion", which ooze dark, industrial funk.

Dom/Vicious Circle - "Cyclops"
Dom/Black Sun Empire - "Sparta"
Review: "Cyclops", by Dom & Vicious, has acid bleeps, machinery beats, a seething bassline and menacing samples. Sinister and relentlessly hypnotic, this proves you don't have to be obvious to be dancefloor.

Machine
Review: The wait is almost over, "Beatbox Master" is the first, double A-side single from one of the most hotly anticipated drum & bass albums of the year. Logistics' profile has been rising steadily over the course of the releases so far and is set to reach a new plateau with the release of the "Now More Than Ever" album in late September. "Beatbox Master" has big siren synths and rumbling subs with a future electro feel that Logistics has made his own, the vocoding and human beatbox elements make this a memorable kick off. "Girl From Mars" is a massive DJ and dancefloor favourite, with support from Andy C thru to Fabio this roller has made it into sets across the globe the undulating bassline and urgent snare rolls keep this exciting all the way through. Limited 7" version features an alternative track on the AA side called "Machine" which could be best described as indie rock dnb with Logistics providing the vocal and a bassline Peter Hook would be proud of.

Squids
Review: "Zion" gets the 2006 remix treatment from rising stars SMOKE, adding a completely new flavour to what was a great tune. Backed with the awesome "Squids" by the one and only Mampi Swift, rest assured the drop is as heavy as it gets.
