Destination 1995; a West Country trio named Orca are making their name for themselves in the jungle phenomenon. Featuring early sounds from Decoder (one half of the chart-topping Kosheen years later), each of these breakbeat bust-ups carries a certain air of Bristol grit and euphoric rave energy. Review: It is the Yellow Machines camp that is behind the Modified Magic label. It started way back in 2015 and is only now up to an eighth release some nine years later, but why rush things? This is another quality outing for fans of straight up, no frills jungle. It is helmed by Champa B who kicks off with 'Bleeps' which is indeed riddled with bleeps from a fax machine in meltdown and is powered by bristling amen breaks with drilling bass down low. 'Wake Up' then rides a bumpy and quick stepping low end with rave stabs, crashing snares and fizzing pads all re-wiring your brain.

Review: Now for something completely different! Forever ahead of the game, Hidden Agenda's role in leftfield jungle soul has been undeniable and hugely influential since the mid-90s and it's amazing to see Jason back now and on such a maverick edge. Both of these cuts hit with a unique vibe and flavour that's so refreshing to hear. 'Dust' is a psychedelic wonderland that slides along with shimmering layers of percussion, guitar and keys. Review: Bristol jungle lynchpin Dead Man's Chest is usually found steering the good ship Western Lore, but back in 2017 he did a series of drops for Ingredients billed as Trilogy Dubs. Originally available on the label's Bandcamp site, now the first volume is pressed up on 10" for some deck-based air time. 'Tears (Fantazia Version)' on the A-side leads with a sad-eyed r&b sample and some lingering piano, but when the drop comes its pure Reese power with a slant towards d&b rather than the jungle DMC's more commonly associated with. 'Rinsa' on the flip is a rowdy slice of Mentasm trickery - the perfect counterpoint to the lead track's solemn vibe.

Review: What happens if you take a big vocal sample and drop it over a rinsing, old school jungle break beat? The first tune here, 'Opus III', that's what. It's a high energy affair that might well raise some eye brows given the vocal, but you can't help but admire it's all out joyousness and air of celebration. Flip it over and you'll find something just as divisive - another clattering jungle tune filled with kinetic kicks and flurries of snare, and once more a well-known vocal from Whamdo Project's 'Kings Of The Castle.'

Review: A tasty little teaser piece from his album Machines, here Enei calls up Eastcolours and Noel to revisit their 2011 hit "Cracker". Jacques Greene brings a whisper of his house leanings to bear, but focuses more on intricate reams of warm melody to work around behind Boykins' breathless vocal. Machinedrum meanwhile brings a more kinetic flavour with his inimitable drum programming, crafting a stunning syncopation with the vocal that leaves the tune running in two directions yet sounding utterly fluid at the same time.

Review: Sam KDC seems like a perfect fit for the Samurai Red Seal label, the UK producer having previously proved himself more than capable of crafting finely judged atmospheric soundscapes for exemplary labels such as Auxiliary and Nu Directions. Between Dreams is a natural progression for KDC, with Samurai Red Seal granting him the freedom to burrow deeper into elegant and emotive layers of sound, with the title track an all too woozy and intoxicating blend of blissful textures and contemplative moments. "Downpour" introduces an element of darkness and could quite easily be mistaken for one of Demdike Stare's more rhythmically driven moments. Superb.

Lead track 'Creation' twists the Amen and Mentasm together into a Escher-like contorted riff while the MCs exhortations of "When The Crowd Says Rewind!" and "Bizzy B!!" before it goes all dub interlude... Review: Veteran Jungle professors Total Science continue their fruitful production partnership with the prodigious whippersnapper known as S.P.Y. - dropping two more cuts of pressure on this rather smart looking clear yellow ten inch. "Stay" will have the jungle purists all misty eyed with thick gloopy bass excursions reverberating from the nether regions amidst a delicious steppah's riddim augmented by evil sub bass deviations - a superlative example of drum and bass at its most dark and danceable. On the flip "Cast Away" proves just as crucial, laying down a dubbier rhythm over sprawling Detroit chords and tinny beats before dropping into the core segment of f***ed up, growling machine funk. Every bit as worthy as their recent Ghost Rider drop.

Review: Exit Records drop a second tantalising Mosaic Vol 1 ten inch sampler ahead of the main course which is set top drop at the end of the month. Instra:mental plough deep into the bowels of downtempo machine funk drum and bass experimentalism on "Scene 3", with a decidedly neon tinged synth hook swirling around the spaces between cascading industrial percussion and spurts of sci fi bass menace. On the flip, Mode works at a similar tempo on "Stepping Stones" with the barbed electronic pulses and intermittent bursts of sub bass dynamics that ride the half step stutter, offset by pads rich with ethereal detail. Review: Fresh from announcing a Digital Soundboy/Polydor partnership that should see a lot more support for rising artists within the drum and bass community, label boss Shy FX drops this heavyweight 10" featuring vocal drops from Kano and Donaeo as well as a refix Breakage. "Raver" is an overt nostalgic nod to jungle in its prime, with the riffing on Barrington Levy's "Many Changes in Life" a neat throwback touch. Equally brilliant is the drop into Soca at the end which is truly complemented by Donaeo's distinctive flow. On the remix front, Breakage win out with a slick amen heavy refix that will have the nostalgic junglists amongst you adopting the Benga brap in no time!

With nary an announcement they've just dropped a superb album Legacy and this very special limited edition one-track 10" "Meltdown" is the album's understated finale. Review: Only 250 copies are available of this limited edition vinyl copy of Demagrafiks 'Soundman Riddim' on the Vinyl Fanatics sub-label. It's a sweet 10-", too, with drums that rock back and forth on their heels, muffed ragga toasts stitched deep into the mix and plunging bass that takes you into freefall over and over again. On the flipside is a fully speaker busting, distorted remix by Yazzus. The drums are manic, the echoing vocals barely decipherable, the fuzzing, fizzing, brain melting bass turbocharged and powerful. As it's mastered by NuTone, the sound is as good as you would expect.

DLR takes the lead with a wriggling, sinewy acidic number where the elements are tightly woven but have stacks of space between them at the same time. Flip for the deliciously wonky funk cut from DLR and Total Science as "On The Edge" does a really far-out springy off-beat thing that sound odd to begin but grows on every listen... Just the way all old D&B records were created. Proper.
