It's no surprise they were able to pull in a heavyweight cast of characters for this collection, but they've made sure to leave enough room for the stars of tomorrow, too. Familiar names include Daniel Bell, Shy One, Willow, Peggy Gou, Midland, Will Saul and Ron Basejam, but there's also surprise inclusions like Tim Reaper and Comfort Zone teaming up for a signature jungle excursion. This is a heavyweight reflection of everything Phonica has represented for the past two decades, but equally a sign towards where they're heading in the future and it couldn't sound rosier.

Review: Offering another foursome of new tracks for Spatial Recordings comes Eusebeia with 'Age Of Awareness', charting a new topology of human understanding via the archetypal throughline that is drum & bass. Perhaps Eusebeia is aware that Apollo's son was the god of healing and remedies: A-sider 'Healing Properties' shoots for jungle of the least abrasive kind, lowpassing the breaks to allow a thick cloud of pads and synths, which dance about the mix. Beyond the hotly tipped mixtape comes this latest 12", featuring different shades of breakbeat pressure tooled to perfection by a truly dedicated head. 'All Of The Massive' was a stand out from said mixtape, and it's now available in all its glory, hard-edged and bleep loaded, primed to rinse any system you care to mention. 'What A Rush' is a smoother roller featuring MC Freddie Sup on lightly sprinkled toasting duties, while 'Selectors On Rotation' pays tribute to the role of adverts on the pirates in the framework of a nasty roller splashed with dub siren licks. Review: Did you know that Iceland had its own rather influential rave scene back in the 1990s? Whatever the answer to that question, you will want to check out this first-ever collection of anthems from that era which is now on vinyl for the first time. This collection came on Thule offshoot label TMT Entertainment as a CD in 1992 and features memorable and timeless tracks from back then, many of them now with cult status. It's called Alsaela, which translates as "ecstasy" and gives you some idea of what to expect from it. It features a non-stop selection of old school rave alongside some lost and previously unavailable classics by Agzilla & DJ L.S.K and some unreleased gems from AJAX. A great bit of history that still does the trick.

Review: Sindh combines old and new worlds on his latest mystic hymns, this time kicking off the A-Biotic label with his dark and alluring four-track EP 'Andaman'. He manages to fuse organic and synthetic materials here as he heads down a darkly introspective path where minimal and IDM, dub and techno all collide in mutant form. 'Jangil' is a real standout with its bubbling halftime rhythms and icy synths backed by distant angelic chorals. Review: Two of drum & bass' most rabid underdogs, Nookie and DJ Crystl, the latter returning only recently after a two decade hiatus - make a triumphant return to the foreground, joining Suburban Architecture in aid of the third edition of their Architecture Dubs series. A fresh fusion of old and new motifs, Nookie's remix of 'Renegade Horns' pays homage to a select juncture in the genre's evolution, recalling the era of "intelligent" drum & bass while nonetheless playing into the freshness and cleanliness that could only ever have surfaced after the 2010s. Crystl's version of 'New Horizons', meanwhile, is more refractive and dreamy, taking its required time to bask in its artisanal padwork, in contrast to its raw b-boy sample and frank Amen breaks.

Review: Rosebay Music is a new label from Submoprhics that opens its account with a new offering from the boss himself. He is someone with a unique style that is built on 174 bpm British foundations but adds elements from the foundational and more contemporary US styles of his homeland, from Detroit house to Chicago footwork. This debut 12' shows that to be the case again with 'Blastoff' bringing a lively juke-inspired rhythm with silky synths and nice lush chords. 'Cinerama' is another smooth roller, this time with spine-tingling female vocals.

Review: It is the Yellow Machines camp that is behind the Modified Magic label. It started way back in 2015 and is only now up to an eighth release some nine years later, but why rush things? This is another quality outing for fans of straight up, no frills jungle. It is helmed by Champa B who kicks off with 'Bleeps' which is indeed riddled with bleeps from a fax machine in meltdown and is powered by bristling amen breaks with drilling bass down low. 'Wake Up' then rides a bumpy and quick stepping low end with rave stabs, crashing snares and fizzing pads all re-wiring your brain.

Review: Tearin Vinyl first released this one back in 1994 and then Vinyl Fanatiks repressed it in 2019 on silver wax, and now the original label brings it back to the fore on yellow 12". It is archetypal jungle from DJ Krome & Mr Time that kicks off with 'Brock Out'. Soulful vocal samples open up before the crashing amens tumble down endlessly next to raw ragga vocals and plenty of wispy synth details. On the flip is 'London Talk' which is just as intense and physical, with old-school breakbeats and a scattering of vocals that add extra heat. Drop these and dancefloor destruction is guaranteed.

Review: Super-techy three-track jungle business from Sub Code Records, welcoming producers Lavery and Bow Street Runner for an "extremely limited" 12" pressing. Lying somewhere on the interstice of ragga and technical jungle - with a few soul and breakdance samples thrown in - we start off with the ruff sampleage of Lavery's 'Dead Soundboy', which happily chops and changes between pleasingly stereo'ed breaks and halfstep toasted breakdowns. The bread doesn't come out burnt, with Bow Street Runner's 'Butterfly Bass' grilling things just right, with its militant dancehall acapellas and no-holds-barred laserblasts leaving us hardly prepared for the track's sudden soul interjection. The collaborative closer 'My Yout' is by far the wickedest sound, with an untreated flute trill and entrancing break chop bottling a dubious mood; the listener is squarely placed in the narrative position of the yute in question, whom we gather is in the midst of being ordered to pass the rudeboy...

Review: Given Okbron's focus on atmospheric d&b new and old, it's logical they'd want to do something with the mighty Peshay. Following his long-serving peers like Digital, Big Bud and DJ Trax, we're treated to two previously unreleased gems from one of the masters of beautifully crafted jungle. There's no word so far on the provenance of these cuts, but whether they're vintage material dug out of a box of DATs or something more contemporary, they sound like quintessential Peshay at his deepest and best. 'Celestial' lives up to its name with its soaring keys and pads atop a rowdy amen, while 'Latitude' heads into golden era Good Looking territory with its oceanic chords and new age sound palette.

Here we find them celebrating the contributions and pure skill of James Stephens' FOI alias with this champion slab from 1994. 'Champion Of Champions' brings a strong sense of triumph before murking you up with the vocal layers and cut-glass edits. Deeper into the EP we hit version central as the other two cuts utilise elements of 'Champions' in different ways; 'Stop Pushing' comes with the big euphoric blasts while the Bonus Dud Plate gives a different twist again. Review: The second release from Fushara & Ben Kei's Constellations imprint brings more of the very same hard-hitting beats-and-basses; we've got blissed out, edgy sci-fi-vibed synths and huge spacious atmospheres, all of which were first heard on the first released. A delightful follow-up, these track are primed for headphone listening first and foremost, despite their (in our opinion) just-as-good club-readiness. First up, 'Nightmare On Wax' delivers a string of eerie cosmic horrors - dormant xenomorphic sonic eggs on a silver platter - by way of endlessly tricky breaks variations and soulful sampled wails into the silent void that is space itself. The creep factor continues into the B, with 'Paranoid Park', taking its namesake from the bleak emo film and bringing with it an intense combination of psychotic mutterings and gourd-string tremblings; Ben Kei's contributions, meanwhile, are weightier and sparser, dare we say harder-hitting; 'Aperture' comes as the "tribal" highlight, channelling a huge sense of weight in its bass stabs and well-rounded break.

Review: Kruder & Dorfmeister's Conversions mix album takes you right back to 1996, when the Austrian duo were taking inspiration from the UK d&b pioneers and giving the sound their own lounge-y twist. Review: London-based producer Otik releases his first album Cosmosis on Martyn's label 3024. The 11-track LP signifies the fourth album on the imprint across its ten-year tenure, showcasing a more introspective side to Otik's musical output. The album leans into delicate melodies, hazy atmospheres and lush analogue sounds, often evoking blissed-out feels and ripples of brilliant colour. Produced three years ago during lockdown, Cosmosis comes after a period of spiritual struggles, where Otik questioned his faith, religious beliefs, and the concepts of right and wrong. While the pandemic allowed ample time for reflection, Otik translated these thoughts into music from his Peckham-based studio, later finding a home on 3024's evolving discography. Keen to release a body of work that explores the journey of enlightenment and the struggles to get there, Otik drew inspiration from the luminary filmmaker Terrence Malick and how Malick portrayed ideas and philosophies in films like The Tree of Life and Voyage of Time. As a result, the record conveys a compelling narrative of rebirth, told through exquisite sound design and a push-pull pace that oscillates across the album.
