The Eris E66's deliver an expanded and highly accurate frequency response and the widest stereo field available in their class. Their nested Midwoofer-Tweeter-Midwoofer (MTM, also known as "D'Appolito") configuration offers improved off-axis response and spatial resolution. The result is a more consistent listening experience, smoother frequency response, and an ultra-wide, detailed stereo soundstage.

Conventional 2-way designs can cause significant early reflections from their surrounding environment. The E44 and E66 overcome this by positioning a 1.25", silk dome high-frequency driver between two 4.5" (E44) or 6.5" (E66) midrange drivers. The two smaller woofers work in parallel to partially contain the dispersion of the tweeter, minimizing phase displacement. The result is incredibly detailed stereo imaging.

The E66 features two midrange drivers that cover the same frequency range. The drivers are placed so that their acoustic centers are less than one wavelength apart for any of the frequencies they reproduce; as a result, the combined signal of both drivers propagates forward like a single waveform. This makes the comparatively small midrange drivers in the E66 behave like a single, larger driver. This mutual coupling provides a highly dynamic output in a compact footprint.

Sound waves radiating from the two components in a conventional speaker design can interfere with one another, creating peaks at some frequencies and dips at others, and these will vary depending on where the listener is relative to the speaker. In an MTM configuration, component interference, and the sonic inconsistencies that go with it, are minimized. This affords listeners an ultra-wide sweet spot and a more consistent listening experience on- and off-axis.

The E66 utilises custom-woven Kevlar low-frequency drivers. This provides a more constant dispersion pattern throughout the frequency range, resulting in less time-smeared audio and cleaner overall sound. The weave and nature of the dual Kevlar woofers also helps break up reflected energy, so fewer delayed reflections reach the listener's ear. In conjunction with the MTM configuration, this works to create a transparent, cohesive sound.

Many MTM configurations must be arrayed vertically, rather than horizontally, because vertical placement provides a clear, interference-free midrange and treble reproduction to either side, expanding the sweet spot. By bringing the midrange drivers closer together and raising the high-frequency driver, the E66 is able to perform optimally in both orientations. So, like all Eris speakers, the E66 let you position your speaker the way that works best for you.

Power. Detail. Soundstage:

The IN-8 Studio Monitor is a speaker like no other. Using the same woofer and tweeter from Kali's celebrated LP-8, the IN-8 adds a midrange driver that surrounds the tweeter, and acts as its waveguide.

In doing so, both the tweeter and the woofer are unburdened; with a smaller workload, they are able to play more clearly and with less distortion.

The coaxial nature of the midrange and tweeter make the IN-8 an acoustic point source. Off-axis lobing is thereby eliminated, resulting in a stereo soundstage that presents the listener with a hyper-realistic level of detail.

All of this means that the IN-8 is extremely accurate and easy to mix on, and that mixes made on the IN-8 will transfer wonderfully to other systems.

Imaging:

We know. We keep harping on about the "hyper-realistic" imaging of the IN-8. What does that mean?

When you listen to a stereo set of speakers, you're hearing information about where instruments and players were placed when the material was recorded. Even with purely digital material, producers can manipulate physical locations of elements in the mix, and you will hear these on a stereo recording.

Not only does this allow producers to create interesting spatial effects, but it means that you can work faster and with more confidence. An accurate soundstage lets you "see" each element of the mix in front of you, so you can hear exactly what happens when you make changes.

2-way systems with good waveguides, like Kali's LP-6 and LP-8, do a good job at conveying this spatial information. However, because the tweeter and woofer on those speakers (and most studio monitors!) are separate, this information gets lost in the space immediately above and below the speaker. This means that at the listening position, you're not hearing the full stereo picture.

The IN-8 solves this problem. The tweeter and midrange share an acoustic centre, and the woofer is crossed over at 330 Hz, so the distance between the woofer and midrange is well under a quarter wavelength at the crossover point. This means that the IN-8 is acoustically a point source. As such, it has the same excellent directivity that the LP-6 and LP-8 have at their sides in a full 360 degrees around the speaker. You're hearing all of the spatial information at the listening position, so the soundstage that you hear will have every detail that's present in the mix.

Clarity:

The IN-8's total harmonic distortion is less than 1.4%, which is exceptional. This is the result of unburdening both the woofer and the tweeter, so that both are doing less work. The woofer is crossed over at 330 Hz, a full 2.5 octaves lower than on the LP-8.

The tweeter is crossed over at 3000 Hz, nearly an octave higher than on the LP-8. Taking up the space in between in the hero of the IN-8 system: the 4-Inch, profile-optimized midrange driver. This driver has a lot of work to do. In addition to reproducing midrange frequencies, it also acts as the waveguide for the tweeter. This means that the shape needed to be precisely engineered to provide an ideal dispersion characteristic for the tweeter.

It also means that the midrange needs to stay still. In many other co-axial or concentric systems, high excursion from the larger driver causes intermodulation distortion, and degrades the accuracy of the system. The midrange on the IN-8 is limited to less than 1 millimetre peak excursion, making it acoustically stationary while still providing midrange to keep up with the powerful woofer and tweeter.

It's all in the geometry. One of the downsides of port compression is bass distortion. As you turn up the volume, the efficiency of the port reduces and distortion will increase. Eve audio have opted for a large rear rectangular port with no hard edges for our bass port designs. That's one of the reasons their monitors have a high efficiency on the lower frequencies.

The results are high sound pressures with tight and punchy bass frequencies that don't cause port distortion. Crank up the volume, and Eve will deliver a round bass. With no holes to look at every time you glance at your speakers.

Superior transient response:
In order to dampen resonance peaks at higher frequencies, conventional dome tweeters are injected with fluid to raise their mass, sacrificing transient response time. By contrast, the custom-designed AMT tweeter in the R80 uses an incredibly thin, folded Kapton membrane (< 0.01 mm) with an inlayed aluminum circuit functioning as the voice coil, allowing the tweeter to move at the same instant as the electric current. The resulting reactive response time provides marked clarity and superior transient reproduction.

Wide, consistent stereo image:
An unfolded AMT tweeter diaphragm provides 8 to 13 times the projection area of a traditional 1-inch dome tweeter, enabling R80 monitors to provide a much wider stereo soundstage than traditional designs. At the same time, the R80 provides a very limited vertical dispersion, which helps to reduce reflections from the ceiling and desktop that can cause phase coherence issues. In order to achieve this perfect combination of sound quality and appearance, the Turbo series enclosures were designed as a non-regular hexagon. After careful calculation and experiment, we found that the non-regular hexagonal structure is most effective in minimising standing waves inside the enclosure. We chose high quality MDF for the enclosure to not only damp out unwanted resonances, but to ensure a solid and inert structure to mount our drivers to. Accuracy

The LPs have always been praised for their accuracy, and the 2nd Wave versions realize slight but noticeable improvements in that regard, particularly on the top end.

Power

Kali Audio defines a listening distance as the maximum distance at which the speakers can play continuously at 85 dB while maintaining 20 dB dynamic headroom.

This means that anywhere within that listening distance, you can listen for long periods of time at reference volume, and momentary peaks such as bass drops or explosion effects will come through clearly and with minimal distortion. The LP-6 has enough output for most 1-2 person setups, and the LP-8 can handle larger setups easily. Full output specifications, along with maximum listening distances, can be found in the user's manual.

Bass on the LP-Series monitors is delivered by larger magnets and larger voice coils than any comparable speakers on the market. This gives you more accurate bass response that extends lower, so you can dial in exactly the low end sound you need. Bass response is not boosted or overhyped, but you can be sure that you're hearing the bass that you have on the track.

Protective limiters prevent harmful voltage from ever reaching the drivers, so there is no risk of blowing these speakers. These have been updated for the 2nd Wave, allowing for 3 dB higher output.

Both models use 40W for the 1" soft dome tweeter. The LP-6 uses 40W for the 6.5-Inch woofer, and the LP-8 uses 60W for the 8-Inch woofer.
