Review: The Mountain 45 label has been giving us some unique music that cross genres since its inception just a few years ago. Like previous editions, Double A contributes 'Super Badman Riddim' which is both catchy and clever. Featuring James Brown samples thrown in the mix takes this dub related track to the limit of fun. For the B-side, James Nasty's 'Fan Dem Off' with a peak time party song that should take the dancefloor to another level. These attention getters are ideal for being addictively fun and different. It's hard to categorise music like this, which is a sign of its originality.

Review: A classic 7" by reggae and dancehall legend Barrington Levy returns to the equally legendary Jan Life label. Levy rose to fame in the early 1980s, but it wasn't until much later that Jah Life (founded by Hyman Wright and Percy Chin) clocked onto his talents and funnelled him into their roster. 'Black Roses' is backed up by the infamous 'Rose Dub', and both tracks romantically ruminate no the presence of a symbolically shadowy rose - "something special... got to water it!" - growing in Levy's garden.

Professionally known as Mr Williamz he is a reggae and dancehall icon who was born in London before moving back to the Caribbean. He started MCing by the age of 10 and won various local competitions that eventually led to crucial singles on Necessary Mayhem and Greensleeves Records. Review: Victor Axelrod aka Ticklah is the venerated producer beyond this new toast from Jamaican reggae and dancehall singer Mikey General. The pair came together during the pandemic and found plenty of common musical ground as they throw it back to the early 1980s analog rub-a-dub style. The backing track has been used in years gone by but Mikey adds his own spin to it here. He has been a mainstay in the scene since the 1980s and has fans in New York, London and Jamaica. Review: The second release in Firmly Rooted's latest 7" series, 'Wicked Man Flex' was written and produced by system maestro Joe Rooney, initially live, in the heart of Bristol. This release speaks of "allowing peoples wicked ways too pass by without getting too caught up in the energy around", imploring us to protect our energies as we lend them two firm heaters, the title track and 'Left Hand Skank Riddim'.
