After absolutely destroying the dancefloors all year long with his infamous bootleg of Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place", which he smartly put out in extremely limited amounts of vinyl around the same time his mentor, Osunlade, featured his cover of that very same song on BBE's "Exit Music: Songs With Radio Heads". In all honesty Afefe remains a mystery even to us. So, let us start by saying who Afefe isn't. Unfortunately, for those who thought he was Osunlade, you are mistaken, but don't feel ashamed, because Afefe creates at Osunlade´s studio in Santorini, which makes sense to pinpoint him as Osunlade. Afefe is a very quiet man. Like our lost brother, J Dilla, Afefe wants his music to do the talking. And this is exactly what we're going to do. "Body Drummin" is exactly what it is. A percussion heavy track strictly for the dancefloor, its organic, yet techy-tinged feel brings such an urgency to move your hips that we would only recommend this for playing after midnight. Review: Many varied accolades have been heaped upon RJD2 since he was catapulted to fame in 2002. There are no pigeonholes in which you can simply place a man like RJD2. Thanks to 2002's "Dead Ringer" album and then 2004's critically-acclaimed "Since We Last Spoke" he has been described as a hip-hop super producer and virtuoso instrumentalist. Now you can add enigmatic singer/songwriter to that list. Pushing the boundaries of music even further, RJD2 seemingly abandons all the notions and titles that have been placed upon him over the past six years for "The Third Hand". For the first time on an RJD2 record live instruments have come in to play as well as the samplers/sequencers, electric pianos, thunderous drums and subtle guitars, plus RJD2's own voice. Combined, it all adds another dimension to the music of RJD2. The result is that RJD2 has created a cohesive pop album in the most classic sense. Everything is in place, from the rugged instrumental beats of "Get It", the funky old-skool groove and vocal harmonies of "Beyond The Beyond" to the beautiful, gentle acoustic strumming of "Someday". RJD2 has created a record so full of rich songwriting, complex arrangement, and clever production that they transcend genre distinction and warrant an intent listen every time.
