Camelphat & Ali Love - "Dopamine Machine" (club mix) (8:20)
Offaiah - "Work It Out" (club mix) (6:19)
Josh Butler - "Feels Good" (feat Hanlei - extended mix) (7:02)
David Penn - "Nobody" (club mix) (6:54)
Review: Defected once again have the main room at peak time in mind - with these four scorchers aimed squarely at said dancefloors. From current scene favourites Camelphat: the masked crusaders teaming up with the man with the golden voice Ali Love, on the adrenalised "Dopamine Machine" (club mix), Argentinian producer Offaiah rounds up the A side with the deep and sexy bounce of "Work It Out" (club mix). On the flip, Northern tech house hero Josh Butler shows he can do vocal house too on the very Kerri Chandler influenced "Feels Good" (feat Hanlei - extended mix) while Spanish veteran David Penn does for that classic Defected style of funky house on the uplifting "Nobody" (club mix).

A Tender Place
Nose Candy
Heroin
Review: Even if you weren't privy to the news that Firecracker had launched an offshoot, your immediate thought when grasping this inaugural release on Unthank would be that it had something to do with the Edinburgh imprint. Arriving in bespoke purple hand stamped sleeve art pressed on 10 inches of clear vinyl and wrapped in Japanese style plastic, it's one of this year's most attractive propositions for vinyl obsessives. This is all without even approaching the music, a debut peek into the musical mind of newcomer Bakey USTL, an Amsterdam dwelling Estonian producer. In "A Tender Place" Bakey has delivered one of the most disjointed, flagrantly risque, thumping eight minutes of house music your senses might be exposed to this year. In contrast to the sleaze on the A Side, the opposing proceedings open with the shuffling future soul abstractions of "Nose Candy" minimalist beatdown at it's finest, whilst "Heroin" marks a swift descent into the depths of South American narcotic noise. Thus the schizoid brilliance of the A Side is matched by the slightly menacing strangeness of the opposing side on a record which is limited in numbers and high on demand.

Rote 1 (7:50)
Rote 1 (DJ Nobu remix) (6:46)
Rote 2 (9:08)
Rote 2 (Svreca remix) (6:35)
Review: Having lined the first release on Bleed under his Volte Face alias, label founder Casper Clark teams up with that man Daniel Avery for their debut outing together as Rote, which comes backed with some fine remixes. Streamlined, hard-hitting techno aimed at questioning the foundational safety of nightclubs appears to be the order of the day for Avery and Clark as Rote, with two untitled tracks that wouldn't sound out of place on a Semantica record. Coincidentally, Semantica boss Svreca pops up on remix duty, turning "Rote 2" into a hellishly satisfying dark techno stomper. Those looking for a more extra-terrestrial sound will be more than satisfied with DJ Nobu's preceding take on "Rote 1". More Rote please.

Guybrush Threepwood Takes DMT & Goes Paragliding At Sunset (6:08)
Joanna (6:15)
Joanna (Damn Dangerous Dub) (8:35)
Review: Norwich may be a fine city (as it's road signs proclaim), but it does seem an unlikely place to find a party - and now offshoot label - dedicated to skewed analogue disco, spacey house, and pictures of cats on synthesizers. Welcome to the world of Cosmic Pint Glass, who unveil their imprint with an excellent EP from rising star Ruf Dug. The brilliantly titled "Guy Threepwood Takes DMT & Goes Paragliding At Sunset" is particularly good, layering cheap-and-cheerful synth melodies over a loose-but-chunky drum machine groove. "Joanna" sounds like a fusion of cheeky Balearica and kosmiche after a few too many sherberts, while the Dangerous Dub of the same track is a moody, late night treat.

Techno
Truss - "Buckholt"
AnD - "Not Sheep"
Ascion - "Narrow Alley"
Sunil Sharpe - "Sacred Granid"
Review: Run by Tom Dicicco and Mancunian pair AnD, Inner Surface Music has maintained a steady rate of output since it was established in 2011. It's the first release (and first ever various artist EP) for the label this year and unsurprisingly raw and punishing techno is the order of the day. AnD line up alongside Truss, Sunil Sharpe and Italian producer Ascion, with the latter's "Narrow Alley" a tubular, twisted and repitched industrial version of Jeff Mills' "The Bells". "Buck Holt" is the first showing from Truss in 2013 after recently bringing an end to his MPIA3 alias, while the inclusion of Earwiggle Records boss Sunil Sharpe sees the Dublin-based techno veteran step further into the limelight with his Blawan-Karenn sounding "Sacred Granite". Tough British techno.

Eisladen
Arzt Im Praktikum
Fahrt Durch Tal (feat Phillip Oertel)
Kokosnuss
Review: Jacob Korn may have made his name on Uncanny Valley, but the Dresden producer has not put out anything on the imprint - or any other, for that matter - since 2012. This, then, is a welcome return. Pleasingly, it's also something of a belter, with Korn offering a range of distinctive takes on house music. For example, opener "Eisladen" fuses highlife guitars and a bleep-heavy breakdown with a surging drum machine groove, while "Arzt im Praktikum" sounds like Mr Oizo jamming with Liquid Liquid. "Fahrt durch Tal" - featuring a brilliant disco bassline from Phillip Oertel - saunters off on a deep space disco tip, before Korn once again doffs a cap to Africa with "Kokonuss", a blissfully sweet and thrillingly eccentric fusion of wide-eyed marimba melodies, warped electronics and loose drum machine beats.

Mythic (4:30)
Black Point (5:04)
Vespers (5:57)
Give Up (4:32)
Review: As the Lowtec-affiliated Out To Lunch label continues its very welcome return to activity, so the mystery continues. Last up was the anonymous intrigue of The Hangout Project, and now Black Point emerges as a hitherto unknown proposition. Whatever the case, the music sits comfortably in that warm and curious bosom of Workshop-friendly vibes, from the deep plumbing techno of "Mythic" to the end-of-the-world stalker "Black Point". "Vespers" moves with an ethereal beauty in its haunting synth tones, and "Give Up" drops all kinds of scatty rhythmic configurations for your cerebral pleasure. Who cares who it is? This is damn fine electronic music from the odd cracks in the dancefloor.

FTR (6:34)
PHouz (5:26)
I Ce (7:10)
Lucyd (5:17)
Review: Frankfurt-based Phil Evans first appeared on our radar back in 2015 via a series of collaborations and solo EPs on the Pager Records label he co-founded. Last year he donned a new alias, Thomas Rooge, delivering a fine pair of EPs on GOSU. Here his rise through the ranks continues via another rock-solid four-tracker that tiptoes the fine line between house and techno. We're particularly enjoying opener "FTR", bouncy affair full of Terrence Parker style stretched-out organ chords, crispy percussion and a repeated vocal refrain ("I'm from the future!"), though there's plenty more to enjoy elsewhere. Check, for example, the thrusting, bass-heavy late night pump of "PHouz" and the deliciously dreamy, intergalactic brilliance of Motor City techno-influenced deep house numbers "I Ce" and "Lucyd".

Drowning In Binary (3:52)
From Wetware To Software (3:23)
Haptic Feedback (4:13)
Personality Upload (6:31)
Review: Shapednoise with Mumdance and Logos; what a killer combo this is. Fresh from their highly lauded live performances at CTM Festival and Club2Club, they now bring their electrifying live show to record for Conor Thomas' The Death Of Rave imprint. Starting out with the unsettling "Drowning In Binary" which sounds like a Trojan horse virus infiltrating and destroying a mainframe, they launch into "From Wetware To Software" which despite its name, sounds more like a light sabre battle from Star Wars. On the flip "Haptic Feedback" is an experiment in deconstructed, late '90s techstep by the likes of Ed Rush & Optical, where the beats are all but removed but the sinister sub bass and chilling sci-fi atmosphere remains.. But with such delicate execution. Finally "Personality Upload" is a dark industrial soundscape where harsh feedback goes head to head with white noise build ups, bowel loosening bass frequencies and the shrieking metallics of field recordings. Apparently inspired by equal parts William Gibson and late nineties drum and bass, this is some seriously dystopian futurism indeed.

Flashback (6:37)
Planet Raider (6:39)
Flashback (Man Power remix) (9:09)
Review: Having appeared on a few of Red Laser's various artist EPs, Clandestino's synth wizard Nick Smith finally gets his debut EP on Bosco's label. "Flashback" pumps with a starlight riff that tips a neat nod at the Innervisions style of cosmic tech where a variety of analogue elements ripple and wave over the sturdy kicks, "Planet Raider" takes more of an Italo route. A little slower and full-spectrum, its velvet arpeggios overlap and weave to mesmerising effect. Man Power closes the show with an epic nine minute remix and there's not a dry eye in sight.

Basic Process (7:10)
O To The M (6:07)
Diviner (6:10)
Review: Not a huge amount is known about Zodiac Childs besides the fact that this is their debut release (under this name at least), Zodiac Wax is their label and the sounds are seriously intergalactic. All spacey breakbeat jams flexing around the 125 mark, there's a timeless cosmic rave feel laced throughout. "Basic Process" flutters with psy-like twinkles and Vamp-ish stabs, "O To The M" is a euphoric spine-melting vocal cut with some great doubled up drum layers while "Diviner" strips things right back to bare bones acid wriggles. Whatever your star sign, Zodiac Childs forecasts a groovy future.
