Review: Curiously, this trip into the hyperactive mind of Finnish producer Aleksi Perala was first released as a digital-only album back in 2009. Here, it finally gets a release on CD, alongside a bonus disc of largely ambient material that echoes his excellent work under the Astrobotnia guise. While enjoyable, it's the skittering electronica, braindance techno and effervescent IDM of the original album that most impresses. Perala seems incapable of sticking to one style, and his joyous experiments take in breakbeat-driven intelligent techno ("Lep Through Time"), 8-bit junglisms ("Rungs of Saturn"), electro squelch ("Teardops") and Squarepusher-ish percussive dexterity ("High Camp").

Review: Construction worker turned producer Jodey Kendrick made something of a stir with his 2009 debut full-length, the vintage Aphex Twin-meets-Like Vibert collection +10. This long-delayed follow-up continues where its predecessor left off, joyously joining the dots between classic "braindance", acid, EBM, stone cold electro, IDM, rave revivalism and twisted electrofunk. At two discs deep it's a bit of a journey, but the purity of Kendrick's electronic sound, not to mention his way with rhythms, ensures the entertainment factor remains high throughout. It does sound a bit like it could have been released in 1993, but that's kind of the point; as far as sparkling retro-futurism goes, this is the real deal.

Review: The intellectual concept behind this first full-length from Zwischenfelt, a loose collective of electronic musicians and vocalists headed by the shadowy Heinrich Mueller, is far too complex to explain here. Yet when you consider that Mueller is a disguise for former Drexciya man Gerald Donald, it begins to make perfect sense. Certainly, all the Drexciya trademarks the dark, sparse atmospherics, the icy, hard-as-titanium electro beats and the dystopian imagery are present and correct, alongside an unsettling array of half-spoken, half-sung vocals. The resultant audio soup is every bit as paranoid and intense as Donald's previous work, if not more so. For those with a taste for the macabre, it's thrilling stuff.

Review: For those UK hip-hop heads with long memories, The Criminal Minds are spoken of in hushed tones. Original formed in 1985, the little-known crew produced a series of underground bangers throughout the late '80s and early '90s, mostly released on their own TCM imprint. This timely 'best of' gathers together a selection of their finest, mostly bedroom-produced hip-hop jams. TCM have drawn comparisons with Public Enemy, and there's certainly a raw aggression and pulverizing funk to much of material here. They were particularly influential in the brit-core scene the big breakbeats and big raps fusion of pre-rave hardcore and hip-hop. It's these brit-core moments the legendary "Systems Overload" and "Widowmaker" that really stand out.

Review: First part of Kerrier District vinyl 12"" series with Disco Nasty, Ce Porte remix versions and original. CAT 183R - Second part of Kerrier District vinyl 12"" series with Robot Tuss, Realistique and Ceephax remix versions. The CD and 12" remix feature a version by Ceephax Acid Krew, the mega talented acid master, who has developed quite a following through his releases on Breakin' Records, First Cask, Lo etc, remixes for Rephlex and Warp, and his excellent regular live shows at Bang Face and almost any rave up with an acid vibe.

Review: Third time around for Cylobotnia man Aleksi Perala, as he unleashes MU 3, his first full length under the AP Musik guise. Glistening with vintage synths, intergalactic chords and stargazing melodies, it's in parts refreshingly icy and oddly tropical. Certainly, Perala has a way with melody, and he excels at lacing bubbling electronics on top of warm drum machine rhythms. There are moments of leftfield dancefloor goodness - see the skittering "Summer DNB" and pulsating braindancer "Hexagon" - but he's really his best when laying down picturesque post-IDM warmth, as on the thrilling "Bench" and "Snowfall", both of which benefit from some glacial, almost child-like melodies.

Review: Ceephax, also known as Andy Jenkinson, brings a new release on Rephlex. With "Volume One" he encompasses the old school acid sensibility crossed with the energy and innovation of the famous "Universal Indicator" acid series, plus a melodic and moody experimental side that is revealed in his mellower moments.

Review: During the year 2005, Richard D. James released, on his 'Rephlex' label, a series of 12 maxi vinyls under his alias, AFX.
AFX has condensed the tracks onto a cohesive album called 'Chosen Lords', his first real album since 'Drukgs'.
The inimitable style of AFX is close to the album 'Selected Ambient Works 85-92' with New-York electro influences, Chicago house and Detroit techno.
A refreshing electronic-synthetic paradise.
