Review: This is perhaps the one time you will see a chart grime smash sharing space on a 10" with Root Strata boss Jefre Cantu Ledesma and we have Mumdance and Fabric to thank for this! The former of course included both tracks featured here on his excellent Fabriclive mix for the London clubbing institution earlier this year and the chance to own them on vinyl should not be passed up. Mumdance's VIP fabriclive version of his Novelist hookup "1 Sec" brilliantly turns the track weightless whilst Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's "Untitled" sounds all the more mind boggling in isolation from the mix.

Review: Cardiff noise-rock legends Mclusky make their long-awaited return with the highly anticipated The World Is Still Here & So Are We. Serving as their fourth full-length and first since 2004's The Difference Between Me & You Is That I'm Not On Fire, the album comes following numerous sparse reunion shows and tours since their initial disbandment two decades prior. First revealed through the release of the Unpopular Parts Of A Pig EP during the latter half of 2023, which would mark their first newly recorded output in 19 years, both the title-track as well as 'The Digger You Deep' were said to be the first tastes of their fourth LP, now making good on that promise with a release set for distribution via Ipecac Recordings, the label of musical absurdist Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle). Having worked in the past with the late, great Steve Albini, even opening for Shellac one fateful evening in London's Scala, the iconic noise-merchants seemingly haven't lost an iota of their bite or shitheaded cynicism during their time away, evidenced as such as in the blistering lead single 'Way Of The Exploding Dickhead'.

Review: Welsh noise-rock royalty Mclusky make their decrepit return on their majorly anticipated fourth album The World Is Still Here & So Are We, marking their first full-length in over two decades, following on from 2004's The Difference Between Me & You Is That I'm Not On Fire. While the Cardiff legends have reformed for brief reunion runs in the past, this time they seriously mean it, revealing their first taste of new material in 19 years through their 2023 EP Unpopular Parts Of A Pig, with the title-track and 'The Digger You Deep' both announced to be featured on their (at the time) as-of-yet unannounced comeback record. Review: Given that even their most dancefloor-focused tunes are remarkably deep, immersive and sonically detailed, you'd think that Chaos In The CBD's music would suit the album format - it's just that until now, they've not recorded a full-length. A Deeper Life, then, marks a big step forward in the Helliker-Hales brothers' career. Predictably, it's borderline brilliant. Made with the assistance of a cast of collaborators and guest performers (flautist Nathan Haines, boogie revivalist Saucy Lady and original NJ garage-house hero Josh Milan included), it sees the Kiwi duo sashay their way through enveloping, musically expansive cuts - many downtempo and home-listening focused - that variously mix and match elements of deep house, nu-jazz, dub, 80s soul, hip-hop, trip-hop, Latin soul and much more besides. A genuine triumph, even by their high standards.

Review: Fraternal duo Chaos In The CBD open the latest chapter on a roundly impressive musical career, calling on an ensemble cast of creative collaborators to contribute to their debut long-player, 'A Deeper Life'. Louis and Ben 'Beans' Helliker-Hales have been on a non-stop roll since they began releasing music under the Chaos In The CBD moniker just over a decade ago. Recently adding a Fabric Presents compilation to their hefty singles catalogue, the siblings step up with arguably their most outstanding work to date. The likes of Blaze's Josh Milan, saxophonist Nathan Haines, longtime collaborator Isaac Aesili, and UK grime MC Novelist are just some of those drafted to embellish productions that range from head-nodding Balearic to the duo's more familiar dusty house thrust. Vast in scope, the collection drifts through all manner of sounds and styles, held together by a coherent production aesthetic and a gorgeously limber live musicality on display throughout. Highlights include the street soul swagger of 'Tears' (featuring Beantown disco queen, Saucy Lady), the searing soul of 'Wanna Tell Somebody', and the bittersweet deep house magnetism of 'Otaki'. Review: Whilst Jack Adams has been producing for a few years under the Mumdance guise, he really seems to have narrowed on a sound lately that's resulted in some truly dynamic club music. After hook-ups with Logos and Tectonic boss Pinch and a superb Twists & Turns mixtape, Mumdance surfaces on the Rinse label with Take Time, a killer plate that really sets out the sound he's pushing right now. If you are down with the whole post-Classical Curves grime meets sound design approach that's been bubbling away you will love this, as Mumdance lays down some mind crushing arrangements for Novelist and Spyro to spit lines over. B Side "The Sprawl" is a real highlight and features on the forthcoming mix CD Mumdance has done with Pinch.

This fifteenth installment is every bit as enjoyable and revelatory, with the first disc effortlessly moving between the stripped-back beauty of Nils Frahm, the acoustic bliss of Seth Avett & Jessica Lea Mayfield, the Beck style modern Americana of Cale Tyson, the grunge style intensity of GT, and the no-nonsense social commentary of Sleaford Mods. Disc two is, if anything, even better, and focuses on woozy electronica, ambient, hip-hop, IDM, and hard-to-describe electronic fusion from the likes of Holly Hendon, Bjork, Floating Points, Novelist x Mumdance and Jamie XX. Review: Given his length of service and reputation, it's something of a surprise to find that Deviation Volume 1 marks Benji B's first foray into the compilation game. Named after his popular club night, the three-disc set gathers together tracks that fit the DJ's "listening music and music for the dancefloor" remit. It's a strong and predictably eclectic selection, with the two unmixed discs containing fine fare from the likes of Flying Lotus, Hunee, Pearson Sound, D'Angelo, Kelela, James Blake, Jam City and Radiohead. He also finds space to squeeze in cuts from lesser-known producers he's been championing, including MC T'East and GILA. As if that wasn't enough to get us all excited, disc three's DJ mix is a lesson in entertaining eclecticism.
