Review: 'Soundcrash' is a new sonic concept devised by Adrian Sherwood. It's a full-on collision of tracks from his innovative and influential On-U archive layered over each other, distorted, dubbed-up and with new additional screeches and vocals (some from Ari Up of The Slits), instruments and the weird noises that you wish for from an On-U release - the ultimate extension of his ideas. Includes tracks by a diverse range of artists like Prince Far-I, the football-stadium rocking Barmy Army, Gary Clail, New Age Steppers, Mark Stewart, African Head Charge, Dub Syndicate and more.

Review: Following the recent - and rather fine - Sherwood At The Controls Volume 1 compilation, On-U Sound has decided to open up their sprawling vaults to original hipster and former Output boss Trevor Jackson. The resultant set, Science Fiction Dancehall Classics, gathers together classics, rarities and previously unheard material from the label's peak years in the 1980s. The collection does a brilliant job in focusing on the spacier and stranger end of Sherwood's production work, where heavy dub rhythms are supplemented by intergalactic synthesizers, hazy African drums, industrial dirt, post-punk noise, synth-pop stabs, freestyle electronics and deep electrofunk influences. There's much to enjoy across the two discs, including rare or unheard early material from Neneh Cherry, Shara Nelson, Atmosfear and Tackhead. Brilliant stuff, all told.

Review: Trevor Jackson continues on plundering the vaults of classic genres of yesteryear. Following up the sterling effort of the Metal Box series of industrial and EBM classics, he now gathers the very best of Adrian Sherwood's seminal On-U sound imprint for this extensive compilation. All the usual suspects are here; Dub Syndicate with "Over Board", African Head Charge's "Stebeni's Theme" (amongst others) and how could we not forget Tackhead, who appear with the heavy "Now What?" Also appearing are Keith Le Blanc, Mark Stewart & The Maffia and Jackson's own Playgroup project plus many others, covering the imprints' illustrious history over three LPs. Essential listening.
