Big Chief
Let's Do It Right
Acid Fantasies
Review: Funkyjaws Music has decided to offer up its first solo EP here having decided to make the previous four volumes of its Let's Dance series various artists collections. JKriv gets the nod here and doesn't disappoint. First up is the leggy mid-tempo disco of 'Share The Night' with its chattery Chicago house style drums and rasping bass. 'Big Chief' is a brilliant mid-tempo jumble of percussion, toms, hits, grinding bass and lazy kicks and 'Let's Do It Right' then takes off on nice clean piano house grooves full of uplifting joy. 'Acid Fantasies' closes out a truly varied EP with a more raw and direct acid house jacker.

Jkriv - "Moonlight Dance"
Love Drop - "Ain't Never"
Review: Funkyjaws Music comes though with more of that lovely loose-limbed disco goodness that is never going to fail in energising a decent dance floor. Let's Dance Volume 4 is another various artists affair that launches with James Greenwood & Aniello's feel-good 'Look Of Love' which has it all - the sweet female vocal, the florid strings, the rolling bassline and big brass leads. Scruscru & Los Protos's 'Corason' brings some Latin flavours with a more deep and seductive groove and Jkriv and Love Drop offer up two b-side jams packed with soul and irresistible rhythms that effervesce with uplifting vibes.

JKriv & Dicky Trisco - "Mae Do Mar" (7:52)
Bernardo Pinheiro - "Xango" (6:40)
Review: The 11th Barefoot beats is another hugely effective disco 12" with two well purposed cuts. JKriv & Dicky Trisco link up first for 'Mae Do Mar,' a tune that has you dreaming of warmer climes, sandy beaches and sunny skies. It's an airy cut with a tropical percussive line, hints of Latin flair and breezy vocals. Flip it over and the temperature goes up a notch - Bernardo Pinheiro's 'Xango' is a superbly soulful and heartwarming groover. The chords are draped elegantly over the busy funky bass and the vocals are chants that draw your attention and get you in a trance.

Mountain (6:14)

Down Slow (6:46)
Terra Amor (4:58)
Review: JKriv has delivered some of the finest solo productions of his career in recent times, including a pair of killer EPs on the Razor-N'-Tape label he co-founded with fellow Brooklyn resident Aaron Dae. Here he takes a break from crafting his own killer cuts to deliver some tooled-up reworks for the Echo Beach Edits series. He begins by delivering a bouncy, piano-rich, house style take on a soaring disco gem ('Mountain'), before successfully cutting up and rearranging a woodblock-powered disco-funk instrumental ('The House'). Over on the flip 'Down Slow' is an excitable, synth-sporting revision of a soulful disco-funk workout, while standout 'Tera Amor' sees him sprint his way through a carnival-ready samba/MPB sing-along.

JKriv - "Something Else" (Peter Matson remix) (6:06)
Review: It's another family affair over at New York City's Razor N Tape label. For this edition, they have tapped the ever reliable Israeli indie-dance heroes Red Axes for a euphoric rendition of Nenor's 'Do You Remember' (feat Jenny Penkin) making for proper Balearic vibes, while the one-and-only Boo Williams delivers another ultra-deep house journey in the form of 'Besty Smith'. Over on the flip, we see the return of New Zealand-based producer Frank Booker who hands in the late night mood music of 'Time Won't Tell' followed by Peter Matson with a slinky and neon-lit rework of label chief JKriv's 'Something Else'.

Dub Something Every Day (feat Saucy Lady) (4:32)
Review: Razor N Tape main man JKriv makes a rare appearance outside of his beloved imprint for this great one on the ever reliable Chicago imprint Star Creature Universal Vibrations. 'Make That Change' channels the heyday of classic early '80s NYC disco, accompanied by Saucy Lady's wonderful vocal work - guaranteed to be a floor filler. Over on the flip, JKriv serves up a slick disco dub remix which largely forgoes the vocals, but retains that amazing trumpet solo to keep the party going well into the late night.

Kim Anh - "In The Stars" (5:06)
Cody Currie - "Ghost" (4:48)
Review: Razor-N-Tape's Family Affair series makes a welcome return here with a third great instalment. This series is something of an annual end-of-year tradition by now (OK, it's arriving a touch late) and this one hits as hard as any with five tracks taken from the full and standout compilation. It is two great remixes of classic RNT material that gets things underway with Ezel offering a dub of Cor.ece and Bruce Leroys sublime deep hose mix of Guinu, then JKriv's 'Better Than Her' is a fat bottomed bit of deep cut electro funk and elsewhere Kim Anh gets raw and cosmic, and Cody Currie's 'Ghost' is broken beat perfection.

He has created these four tasteful edits for the Pleasure Of Love label and brings all his disco, house, funk and New Knowledge to the label. 'Got A Thing' is a glorious disco cut with an irresistible vocal before 'Don't Take Your Love Away' sinks into a more seductive boogie and soul groove. 'GD' is a nice choppy, classy and classic house cut then 'Feel It' gets a little more dark and menacing for those late night hours with raw percussion and lithe melodies daring about the rugged rhythms.

Eu Quero Tudo (4:03)
Review: 2022 has been a hugely successful year for Razor N Tape founder JKriv, whose various singles, remixes and re-edits have all hit the mark. His final release of 2022 sees him serve up four more hot-to-trot edits for the long-running Moton label. On opener 'Repent', the Escort bass player serves up a fine rearrangement of a spacey synth-sporting disco-funk obscurity, while 'Lingala Nacionale' is a fast paced, turn-of-the-80s Afro-disco number with strong vocals, beats and jangly guitars. Over on side B, JKriv first gives his interpretation of a squelchy Caribbean boogie gem from Tappa Zukie ('Love Dream'), before dipping the tempo a touch on a suitably summery rework of a sun-baked Brazilian disco-boogie gem.

Get Up (Dicky Trisco remix)
Review: Ravanelli Disco Club has assembled a selection of remixes of Palavas and this first instalment of them comes from the likes of deep house master Jimspter, disco king DJ Rocca and the melodious Musumeci. It is the Freerange boss Jimpster who goes first with his version of 'One Night Is Not Enough', a lithe and soul drenched sound with horns, chords and vocals that all melt the heart. Musumeci brings a more direct and soulful techno sound, and the DJ Rocca remix is a sparkly one full of cosmic energy. 'Chevauchee Fantastique' (JKriv remix) brings some classic string-laced Philly sounds and Dicky Trisco shuts down with Metro Area style nu-disco.

Formerly part of the beloved band Sotomayor, Pahua embarked on a solo journey in 2020 which culminated in her acclaimed Habita LP on Nacional Records in 2023. Review: You can say that JKriv and Aaron Dae are big fans of L.A-based Afro-Latin funk fusionists Jungle Fire, as the latest release on Razor 'N' Tape Reserve features a quartet of fresh mixes of tracks from the band's bulging back catalogue. The headline attraction is undoubtedly a pair of reworks by Ashley Beedle and Rob Mello, the original founding members of Black Science Orchestra project, which recently reassembled following 15 years apart. This doubles up as a grand affair as the duo presents their first remix and release since their reunion. They first serve up a wonderfully percussive, analogue bass-propelled deep Afro-house "remix" of 2014 cut "Culebro", before reaching for the delays and delivering an arguably even better dancefloor "Dub". You'll also find JKriv's re-imagination of 2013 single "Firewalker" as a bumpin' chunk of horn-heavy dub disco, while Bosq gives "Village Hustle" a rolling Latin disco makeover.

Review: Escort's 'Cocaine Blues' is undoubtedly a 21st century disco classic -a peak-time ready riff on Dillinger's 'Cocaine in the Brain' and People's Choice's 'Do It Anyway You Wanna' that has been a mainstay in DJ sets for the last 12 years. These fresh versions do a decent job breathing new life into a familiar favourite. John Morales does a good job of joining the dots between disco and house on his EP opening multi-track remix, while band-member JKriv adds a little more weight and spacey synth noises aplenty on his similarly fine rework. Sheffield's Crooked Man take over on side B, first delivering a pitched-down revision blessed with jangling piano stabs ('Crooked Line 1'), before reaching for the squelchy synths and trippy noises on a slightly wilder take ('Crooked Line 2').

Review: Ten years after volume one hit stores, legendary disco-boogie label SAM Records delivers a third collection of contemporary reworks of tracks from its enviable back catalogue. As you'd expect, most of the remixers strike a perfect balance between paying tribute to the original material and giving the '70s and '80s material 21st century dancefloor weight. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, from the energy-building loops and chops of the Dorothy's Fortress remix of Lucy Hawkins' 'Gotta Get Out Of Here' and the Saturday night-friendly boogie-house revision of Komiko's 'Feel Alright' by Dr Packer and Michael Gray, to the sensationally squelchy and soulful Pathcouli Brothers' rework of Steve Shelto's 'Don't You Give Your Love Away' and the filter-sporting disco-house hedonism of JKriv's take on disco classic 'Bourgie Bourgie'.

Freerange boss and deep house Don Jimspter goes first and brings real sunshine to his take on 'He Is.' A?gua is the standout track from their 2018 LP and is a poem to the bands native Bahia people with the legendary Antonio Carlos & Jocafi. It is perfect material to rework for different settings and deep house don Jimpster does that with his fat bottomed, tropical remix then stripped back dub. Review: It's a while since we last heard from Bruno 'Patchworks' Hovart's Afro-disco focused Violaaa project, so this surprise set of remixes of back catalogue tracks is more than welcome. Fittingly, three of the versions come from Hovart himself under different aliases. There's a fine, tropical-tinged, sun-splashed Violaaa revision of 'Tu Mens Divant Moi' that doffs a cap to zouk music, and two deep house-tinged Patchworks versions of classic cuts. The mix of the outfit's underground hit 'Spies Are Watching Me' is a brilliant alternative take on a familiar favourite (it certainly breathes new life into the track), while the samba-house-in-Ghana revision of 'Ben Bene La' is brilliant. Throw in a quality J Kriv deep nu-disco version of 'Ku La Foon' and you have an excellent EP of tasteful, club-ready cuts.

JKriv takes on "Cosmic Dancer" and makes it into a slick disco-fied workout that adheres to the RNT vibe, while Dicky Trisco takes the track and makes it into a suitably interstellar strutter heavy on the synth lines. Review: Marseille-based label Ravanelli Disco Club welcomes back Amsterdam-based producer Malik Kassim aka Retromigration for the evocative sunset groove of 'Jeffa' which is perfect for poolside vibes, which then heads inside to the club for some deep, late-night mood music courtesy of Ron Basejam on the remix. Over on the flip, Nephews serve up a slo-mo heater reminiscent of French deep house from the turn of the millennium on the sultry 'Reingelaxed' which gets a re-rub by Razor N Tape main man Jkriv on the flip.

Review: Razor-N-Tape is back again this week, this time with Kokoro Disco-San, an experienced trio of musicians and producers from Barcelona who have clearly stayed on the pulse of the nu-disco scene in recent years. 'Sunshine' in its original form is an edit of a familiar vocal-led disco groove which is perfect for poolside chilling, but it's the reworks by label chief Jkriv which really bang the party. The bright like neon Beach Burn mix is sure to get the hands in the air, as will the low slung SPF76 mix which is perfect to drop just before sunset.

Review: Brazilian producer Processman is something of a rising star, albeit one awaiting a breakthrough (most of his previous appearances have been on compilations or via collaborations). This first solo single for File Under Disco, featuring vocalist Cody, may well provide that breakthrough. Opener 'Adupe' is genuinely brilliant - a cheery, carnival-ready nu-disco number rich in sing-along Portuguese vocals, thickset sub-bass, starry electronics, colourful boogie synths and infectious Latin percussion. Razor'N'Tape co-founder JKriv provides a fine remix, offering a toughened-up groove, heavier percussion and more use of the original mix's short TB-303 motifs, before Processman and Cady return with nu-disco-goes-house jam 'Sou Biana'. Dicky Trisco provides an inspired rework, adding a classic Latin disco feel - via Clavinets, piano solos and sweeping strings - to take the track to another level altogether.

Review: Razor-N-Tape is a bastion of deep house brilliance as once again perfectly exemplified by this vibrant new package from Flamingo Pier. New Zealand collective Flamingo Pier have dropped several well received 12"s on the Soundway Records label and then came good with 2021's self titled full length. They are still all about bringing happy, sunny vibes to a tropical disco template here with the likes of the synth lead 'How 2 Feel' then funky vocal pumper 'Remedy'. There are cosmic rays lighting up the big chords and aloof vocals of 'Beneath The Neon' then a couple of remixes on the flip bring more dubby disco-house sounds.
