Review: This tasty 12" marks a welcome return to action for "metalurgic funk" maestro E-GZR, a shadowy, publicity shy producer whose occasional outings on Sex Tags offshoot Wania are rarely less than essential. The headline attraction here is the saucer-eyed geezer's collaboration with Vancouver's Laura Sparrow AKA LNS. Entitled "Crypto Stock", the track offers a deliciously spacey, funk-fuelled trip into deep electro territory that offers a near perfect balance between weighty dancefloor chops and ear-catching home listening fare. On the flip, E-GZR goes solo, wrapping more deep space chords, jammed-out synth lines and bustling bass around a suitably fuzzy bassline and redlined TR-808 drums.
Review: Shadowy producer E-GZR set tongues wagging three years ago with a forthright debut EP on Sex Tags offshoot Wania. Here the publicity-shy producer returns to action with more untitled doses of Metalurgic Funk. Interestingly, all four untitled cuts boast subtle variations on the same trippy, mind-altering electronic motif, with only the style and intensity of the rhythms below changing across the course of the EP. It's an interesting approach, inspired either by reggae style "versioning" or, given the hypnotic nature of the lead line, a Steve Reich style sequence of minimalist movements. All four cuts are hazy, locked-in concoctions designed for pitch-black basements and hot, sweaty rooms; in other words, heavyweight body music for altered minds.
Review: While LNS and DJ Sotofett are old studio buddies - the Canadian and the Norwegian producers have previously released a string of singles on the latter's Wania imprint - Sputters marks the first time they've recorded an album together. Like previous outings, it's a hardware-driven affair - so dusty drum machines, synths and effects units all the way - united not be one rhythm or beat pattern but rather echoing electronic sounds, alien-sounding motifs, intergalactic riffs and a decidedly sci-fi ethos. Over the two slabs of wax you can expect to hear heady, intoxicating mutations of techno, IDM, ambient, Rephlex style "brain-dance", electro and slo-mo electronica. Throw in plenty of dub style effects and you've got a genuinely impressive, entertaining electronic trip.
Review: Vancouver's Laura Sparrow was one of 2017's revelations in terms of new and interesting dance artists with a penchant for electro, so it's no wonder that she's featured so heavily across Sotofett's own Wania imprint. She's stepping up on her on now, though, killing it track by track with the debut of her self-titled LNS imprint. Recons One is a magnificently executed EP that spans the entire electro lifecycle, from the dreary, nostalgic waves of "Recons One" itself, to the more synth-led soundscapes of "Wasp", remixed in full ambient glory by Sotofett himself under the excellent E-GZR moniker, and the liquid-like deluge of additive rhythms on "Field Of View". "July Rain" is another sublime electro stomper, while "Eons" ties the whole release together with a pensive, otherworldly cascade of synths and distant pads. Lovely stuff.
Review: The latest release on Jayda G and DJ Fett Burger's Freakout Cult label comes from LNS, AKA Vancouver producer and DJ Laura Sparrow. Those who copped her recent debut album for 1080p, Malinge Range, will instantly feel at home, as much of Heliacal Rising explores similar sonic ground. That means deep, dreamy and melodious blends of headphone-friendly electro, immersive house, spacey, downtempo beats, and tactile, head-in-the-clouds techno. Of the six tracks on offer, we're particularly enjoying the Larry Heard-goes-deep electro flex of "Matariki", the up-tempo drowsiness of "R'Iyeh (E-gzr Mix)", and the sparkling, new age deep house fluidity of "Herer".

Review: Sonic Transmutations is an extended compilation album celebrating over three decades of Clone Records. Marking the 31 years - which is coincidentally the national Dutch telephone code - the 8x12" inch box set draws together veteran talent and emerging iconoclasts, transmitting a frequency rooted the imprint's signature blend of essential dance music while journeying off into territories unknown. In a constant state of unfolding, morphing across phases of matter, Sonic Transmutations purveys an elemental energy that stands in testament to Clone's enduring legacy and explorations of sounds and structures.
