Review: When it comes to classical and orchestral worlds things often look painfully whitewashed and very male dominated, at least in so far as conduction goes. Talk about understatements. Enter Jongnic Bontemps, one name on a growing list of incredible talent changing that stereotype up for the better. Schooled in church and jam music, formally educated in classical, to date he has been responsible for no less than 50 significant projects spanning video games, cinema, TV series, shorts and documentary films. His contribution to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is emblematic of his dexterity, a collection that shifts between bombastic and high tech, machines supporting brass and string crescendos, then quiet, patient, and at times tense work, marking him out as a true musical storyteller extraordinaire.

Review: Glenn Echo and Daniel Meineck are back on Detroit label MotorCity Wine with their first new music in two years following their well-received Partly Cloudy album. What Happened to Yesterday? is, we are told, the first of two albums from the pair that will arrive several months apart. It finds the pair get super hazy and dubby, with psychedelic charm swirling around their absorbing grooves next to subtle cues taken from the diverse likes of DJ Premier and King Jammy. There is a superb Moog-based cover of De La Soul's 'I Am I Be', Afro-Carribean disco in 'Dancehall of Grandeur' and epic jazz-rock on Volcano Sound' so dig in and prepare to be wowed.

Review: Artsfest from Akron-based outfit Lemon Friends is the latest album from a group that meets to jam together once a week with "gas station snacks and various instruments to see where the night takes them." The members have worked totters in some capacity for years even though this project is rather new and that show sin the tightness of their interplay and the freeform nature of their expressive musical ideas. They are unrestrained by time or genre in what they do as they mix up Fender Rhodes, upright bass, vibraphone, guitar and saxophone over delicate drum work.

Much of this one was written while the duo was on tour, staying in an airbnb in Los Angeles, before they head to record it back in London at their favourite Studio B in Metropolis Studios. There is a wider variety of voices on this record with Erick the Architect as well as a reunion with Bas for 'Pretty Little Thing' who was last heard on the single 'Romeo.' Review: The love affair between Colombia and African music tracks back to the 17th Century and the establishment of San Basilio de Palenque, the first free town in colonial Latin America which offered refuge and commune for Black slaves. It was a place where African culture could thrive and joyously intermingle with local customs, and centuries later the Afro-Caribbean communities in Colombia established their own twist on Jamaican soundsystem culture in the 20th Century known as 'picos', where styles such as Kenyan Benga music were able to wow crowds on homemade rigs. This compilation takes a loving look at the unique guitar-picking style which developed its own distinct qualities that could only come from one time and place at the intersection of vibrant cultures.

Review: Over the years, Hendrik Weber has released countless albums as Pantha Du Prince whose inspirations are pleasingly pastoral and pure. As the title suggests, Garden Gaia - his first album-length release for two years - continues this theme, with Weber framing it as "an investigation with the means of music about the earth as a perfectly functioning garden". So while largely electronic in terms of instrumentation, the album does genuinely have a "back to nature" feel. For proof, check the slowly unfurling melodies, hybrid electronic/acoustic beats, earthy lead vocals and blissful chords of 'Blume (Bendik HK Edit)', the deep, post-dubstep, shoegaze-influenced warmth of 'Heaven Is Where You Are (Bendik HK Edit)' and the stunning, subtly string-laden ambient beauty of incredible closing cut 'Galactic Garden'.
