Review: House music producer, DJ and label owner, Seven Davis Jr brings us his latest, Stranger Than Fiction on his own Secret Angels record label. This full length is the artist's fifth in total and is in the similar vein as Romanthony or perhaps Jus ED. The blend of house heaters, vocals and injecting some soul into the mix, is the ingredients for the recipe. There are killer house bangers like 'Come Back To Life' and 'My Love Is Deep' while some others explore a deeper dubby groove like in 'Stranger Than Fiction' or the Hip-House inspired 'Wanna Find Out'. Plenty here for house fans to enjoy.

Review: After the uncertainty that has surrounded the Fabric Empire in recent months, it's heartening to see a new Fabric Live mix drop. At the controls for the fifty second edition is Dublin D&B don Zero T, with a selection that veers from the confines of junglist workouts into dubstep, house and ends with some hip-hop tinged drum and bass. It's the familiar vocals of a legendary rapper that open Zero T's mix with the bass atmospherics of Paradox's "A Certain Sound" being taken over by Jeru The Damajah's guest spot on the ruff VIP mix of "Watch Your Step" from Kabuki.

Review: It's been a while since we last heard from Ric 'Scope' McLelland and Sean Grieve's South West Seven project. Happily, this release for Sheffield's Shabby Doll imprint finds them in fine form, expertly jumping between dancefloor-centric styles at will. Opener "Angel", for example, is nu-disco with a sturdy deep house twist, all thickset synth bass, Balearic pads and shimmering electronics. "You Don't Know", on the other hand, sounds like a long lost early '90s piano house jam - all woozy female vocal samples, booming bottom end, ricocheting drum hits and sparkling stabs. As for "Vaporize", it sounds like deep rave - skittering breakbeats, "Pacific State" chords and wide-eyed samples. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a formidably bassy garage re-fit of "Angel" by Quell.

Review: The Lost Tapes Vol. 1 draws together material spanning some twelve years of unreleased four and eight track recordings from Houston-born Seven Davis Jnr. "once lost in storage via a lengthy hiatus due to drug addiction and depression". Plucked by Kutmah to appear on the Worldwide Family Vol 2 issued on Brownswood last year, Davis Jnr. has subsequently self released material via bandcamp, dropped a killer house focused 12? on Jay Simon's Must Have Records and has a record with Funkineven on the way . Brandishing a rough and rugged mastery of drums and a truly soulful vocal, Seven Davis Jnr has the capacity to cover a broad range of styles (a cover version of Prince's "Controversy" that can be found online is a notable highlight). This much is more than evident on the newly issued collection of works for IZWID, with the bugged out mutant soul of "Sorry" being a stand out track.

Review: **REPRESS ALERT** The second release on Kutmah's IZWID imprint is a rare collection of bugged out electronic soul from the Los Angeles-based vocalist, producer and poet, Seven Davis Jr. "The Lost Tapes Vol. 1" spans 12 years of experimental, cosmic out-of-body-and-mind music, of mostly four and eight track recordings once lost in storage via a lengthly hiatus due to drug addiction and depression.
Resurfacing in 2012, Seven Davis Jr.'s 'Thanks' appeared on Kutmah's much lauded "Worldwide Family Vol. 2" compilation on Brownswood Recordings, after which the kaleidoscopic artist released the clattering funked beats of "Lo-Fi Vintage" and house-inspired "One" EP.
For IZWID, "The Lost Tapes Vol. 1" is a creative blueprint for Davis Jr.'s brilliantly unorthodox approach with his beautifully raw drums and psychotropic harmonies. "I made a lot of this music many years ago and other labels and artists hated on me for it," says Davis Jr. of the lost tapes. "They said it was too weird, too different, sounded like drug music (it was) and they told me I was going to hell, for 'Pornostar'. Years later; new life, new city, new day and age. I found the music again, which I never stopped loving and decided to send it all to Kutmah.

Review: It's been some sixteen years since Brit-Pop underdogs Shed Seven's previous album. Since its official demise, the genre has endured mixed attempts at revivalism, but few have captured its sound with the purity to be found on this considered and honed comeback album. Having kept quiet since reforming in 2007, Shed Seven have re-surfaced all guns blazing, with this album coinciding with their largest UK tour to date and, strangely, the launch of their own beer. 'Instant Pleasures' is an impressive return to form, packed with the uplifting anthemic moments you'd expect to hear from any one of their hit singles from the '90s.
