Review: The initial WaWa Original Mix presents "Music" as a stunning vocal house tune with a warm but forceful sound and pumping groove. The following Jerry Ropero remix cleverly fiddles with elements of the original, pieces them together with both an electro and Latin touch, and tops it off with a pinch of disco. The concluding StoneBridge remix moves closer along the original, builds up additional pressure and fits it with a much cooler vibe. Finally, the WaWa Dub Mix covers the ground which so far has not been touched and makes this 12" a great and all-embracing package.

Review: Defected boss Simon Dunmore has always been a smart cookie, so it's little surprise that he established the Glitterbox brand a couple of years back to represent the more disco-fied end of the dance music spectrum. Here, the Defected chief dons a pair of headphones and mixes up two discs rich in celebratory, feel-good workouts. Dunmore's selections are on-point throughout and take in classic disco and boogie (Change, Shirley Lites, the Originals), contemporary disco-fired workouts (Purple Disco Machine, BB Boogie's brilliant "Sweating and Shaking"), cheery disco-house anthems (95 North, Reverendos of Soul) and all-out peak-time house gems (see the contributions from Eli Escobar, KiNK and Dj Chus and the Groove Foundation). Highlights are plentiful throughout, though it's hard to beat Louie Vega's sublime rework of Sylvester's "Dance".

More than most forms of music, contemporary black recordings possess the ability to borrow, looking back at what has gone before. As a result today's artists, producers and remixers consistently draw inspiration from classic, often obscure, soul, jazz, funk and disco tracks, and subsequently the pioneers of these genres are, arguably, directly responsible for many of today's biggest dance floor cuts. Therefore, this collection is dedicated to the rare grooves and classics that in many cases have survived their creators and the labels that first brought them to our attention. This first edition of Defected's new "Deep Down & Discofied" series contains a small selection of some of the many tracks that have inspired its curator, label boss Simon Dunmore, through the years, records that touched his soul at various points on his journey through clubland. A few of the choices are pure indulgence but most of the inclusions are now part of dancefloor history and, more importantly, they are now the inspiration for many a classic hip hop, house or r'n'b anthem, either as a straight cover version or as a sampled, twisted groove revitalised for a brand new audience. Joining the dots between old and new flavours brings together records from Jenny Burton (whose "Bad Habit" was used so effectively in Defected's own ATFC single), Salsoul Orchestra (another heavily sampled classic in "Take Some Time Out For Love"), Teddy Pendergrass (think DJ Sneak's Chicago House classic "You Can't Hide From Your Bud") and the prototype for Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You" from Chaka Khan alongside newly created disco infused songs from Martin Solveig and Ron Hall & The MuthaFunkaz. A clear indication that the musical power of the past is still shaping the sounds of the future. The first "Deep Down & Discofied" album comes available on double CD and three double vinyl LPs, bringing the selected tunes to DJs, collectors and those wanting to delve a little deeper inside contemporary electronic music. Review: British and American artists working in the experimental scene were in fine fettle during the mid to late 1970s, though it is a rather under-investigated time. This new, vast and comprehensive box set from Dialogo's - made in full collaboration with all of the composers or their estates - serves up all ten of the albums Brian Eno's Obscure Records label put out. Each one has been remastered and an extensive booklet is included making this an essential collection that documents some of the most vital sounds to emerge during the second half of the 20th Century.
