Review: Barely a week goes by without another Soul Jazz compilation, and never are they anything else than superb. This time out we're cerated to another collection of tunes from Kingston's seminal Studio One, but rather than the straight up reggae we're used to, it is more of a melting pot of funk, soul, jazz and dub. All of these tunes were written in the 1970s under the watchful eye of studio chief and producer Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd and there is a wealth of deep, sunny, funk cuts that have more than stood the test of time.

Review: Digging Deeper's latest archival dive takes us back to 1995 and a cult classic from Italian producer Maurizio 'Jazz Voice' Verbitini. The Panic EP first surfaced on Hi-Bias Records offshoot Toronto Underground and has certainly stood the test of time. For proof, check opener 'Move To The Rhythm', a chunky, Danny Tenaglia-influenced slab of big room, early morning deep house full of undulating bass, diva vocal samples, tribal house percussion and warehouse-ready slabs. Or, for that matter, the subtly Jaydee-influenced late-night throb of 'Message', the echoing vocal snippets and deep organ bass of 'L O V E' and the haunting, mid-90s Italian dream house update 'Dream Paradise', with its shuffling drums, sub-bass pulses and jazzy, cut-up bassline.

All alone he sips his tea, burns his incense, scrolls TV. And peering out beyond the fore, longs to make it back once more." A cute little poem, as featured on the album artwork to this cute little record, it betrays the essence of the music that's here. Although hard to precisely put a fine point on it, Peel Dream Magazine crafts this kind of child-like, innocent, floaty, lo-fi pop sound that makes you feel something along the lines of a small kid watching escapist morning telly. Except in this case the fantasy world that unfolds before you isn't visibly made from cheap balsa wood and quick paint jobs. Instead, it's vividly detailed, and feels utterly complete. Like Bibio meeting Beta Band on Sesame Street. A bit.

Review: Not to be confused with the rather divisive 2011 album, Original Sin, on which a host of guest artists - Rob Thomas, Ben Harper, Mylene Gamer, Pat Monahan among others - take on the difficult task of stepping in for Michael Hutchence, joining the surviving members of INXS, Original Sinners is the real deal of the band at a time when they couldn't have been riding higher or been filled with more promise.

Recorded in 1984, this was the year when things really started happening for the Aussie alt-rock new wavers, scoring their first homeland number one ('Original Sin' - hence the title of this and the aforementioned outing), setting things up nicely for more than half a decade that would see them hit international superstardom with successive chart topping albums and singles. Review: Having delivered a string of loosely themed collections of extended mixes and 12" versions from the 1980s, the long-running NOW compilation strand has launched a new series focusing on music released in specific years across the decade. 1980, the inaugural collection, is relatively light on pop, 'alternative' and new wave extended mixes (though OMD, Spandau Ballet, Sparks and UB40 all appear), but big on soaring disco hits, crossover club classics and chart-bothering dance numbers from the dawn of the decade of Thatcher and Reagan. That means outings for the likes of Tom Browne's 'Funkin' For Jamaica', Teena Marie's exceptional 'Behind The Groove', Grace Jones' low-slung cover of Roxy Music's 'Love is the Drug', Tom Moulton's peerless version of Loleatta Holloway's 'Love Sensation', an Odyssey's addictive 'Use It Up & Wear It Out'.

Review: For many people, the wait for the latest Bond movie to finally be released after long Covid delays has been excruciating. But for a certain group of us, the soundtrack will always be more anticipated, especially when it is by a modern great like Hans Zimmer. On this one, the masterful composer captures all the glamour, danger, high drama, class and suspense you would expect, but all in his own unique way. Johnny Marr, who is also the featured guitarist on the album, helps with the score and of course Billie Eilish's electrifying title track 'No Time To Die' also makes the cut.
