Side A begins with the bouncy, low-slung disco-funk-goes-disco-house heaviness of Giman & Chic Ago's edit-not-edit gem 'The Job', before Vanessa Jackson handles lead vocals on Magnolia's 21st century disco sing-along 'Never Give Up On Love' and the legendary Michelle Weeks performs the same role on Luke Delite's celebratory and nostalgic, Salsoul-esque 'Give Me Your Love'. The fun continues on the flip, where Hotmood blurs the boundaries between chunky deep house and nu-disco on a fine revision of Generoco's 'In The Music', Foot Loose serves up the sun-splashed joy of 'Nah That's Ross Kemp', and Sean Den stomps his way through the heavy disco-house pressure of 'Ain't No Love'.

Review: NOW Music is on with a big project here that sees the long-running label present a new series of vinyl compilations, NOW That's What I Call 80s Dancefloor. Each one is set to include what they deem to be "an essential collection of tracks" that they hope offer fair representation of a number of key musical movements and genres from across the 80s. The first volume presented the best in HI-NRG and POP and this one, a double album, focusses on Soul & Disco. All the names you'd expect are here from Prince to Daryl Hall & John Oates, Loose Ends to Rufus & Chaka Khan, so it is a useful one indeed.

Review: The Sound Signature label continues its' round-up of tracks they've not quite managed to get out on wax to date, supposedly due to endless delays at pressing plants. This second volume in the series is, if anything, even stronger than its' predecessor. Certainly the line-up of artists is ridiculously strong, with Tony Allen, Andrew Ashong, Kai Alice, Marcellus Pittman and, of course, boss man Theo Parrish, all contributing. Musically, it's a deep, soulful, loose, jazzy and breezy affair that takes in folksy neo-soul, intergalactic broken beats, Rhodes-laden instrumental hip-hop, throbbing, left-of-centre deep house, and sumptuous, string-laden jazz-funk. It's the kind of set that will bring a little sunshine into your life, regardless of the darkness happening in the World around us.
