Review: J.K.'s 'You & I' is something of a classic and hard-assed hose workout form 1994 that has been remixed and reissued and number of times since. Real name Marta Simlat, the project was made up by Italian producers Larry Pignagnoli and Davide Riva and this was their biggest success. This latest release of it kicks off with 'You & I' (Bliss Team remix) which is seriously heavy and dark with dystopian synth fizz. The Guitar Mix is even more frosty and all consuming then the Classic '95 remix is beatdown techno with a dark, menacing heart and the club 95' remix is all about unsettling synth blasts and scratchy noise.

Review: The sixth album from JK Flesh, Sewer Bait is a slo-mo, lo-fi, noise-inflected journey through the dirtier, grittier side of techno. The opening track, 'Soaked to the Skin' is a corroded, corrupted chugger - pulsing demonically, brushing against increasingly rougher textures, this is a track where everything is obscured yet each component comes together to create a groove that is intensely hypnotic. The titular track 'Sewerbait' feels more closely aligned to the industrial techno tradition - slamming drums meet searing synths to create a track that is powerfully alluring. The final track, 'Washed Up', is driven by a relentless, propulsive core - like an engine revving up, this track feels ready to take off. JK Flesh has a masterful skill for making the rough shine and highlighting the delicate amongst the rubble.

Review: At the last count, former Napalm Death and Godflesh member Justin Broadrick had no less than 12 active artistic aliases. JK Flesh is arguably one of his better-known projects, thanks largely to previous releases on the likes of Hospital Productions, Downwards and Electric Deluxe. His latest EP is forthright, charging between mind-altering industrial techno paranoia (the thrusting and pulsating "Wasplike"), wall-of-sound rhythmic insanity (the nails-hard stomp of "Mindprison"), Surgeon-ish stompers ("New Build Estate", which perfectly encapsulates the soul-sapping concrete intensity of such housing developments) and deliciously low-slung, basement-ready industrial funk ("Dark Horse").

Review: The Athens-based Pi collective has so far used their Modal Analysis Records-backed Pi Electronics imprint to deliver a quintet of decidedly dystopian experimental techno EPs. You'll find more fuzzy fare on Variable, the label's first attempt at a compilation style, multi-artist extravaganza. Former Napalm Death member JK Flesh kicks things off with the mind-altering analogue electronics and industrial-tinged techno rhythms of "Chelmsley Wood", before Ontal drags us further into end-of-days techno territory via the layered percussion, distorted electronics and bludgeoning beats of "Mudflow". Review: Downwards boss Regis surely does keep us on our toes still after all these years. After laying low for a while, he has got the label back in full swing after unleashing a monster EP by Simon Shreeve. This time he now presents new material by maverick producer and UK legend Justin Broderick under the JK Flesh moniker. The brooding grindcore dub of "Nothing Is Free" will be right up any Downwards loyalists alley, as will the snarling audio assault of "Kontorted" which slithers around walls of hiss, feedback and guttural low end brutalism. Surgeon's remix of "Nothing Is Free" blows the doors off in pretty spectacular fashion as always, exploiting the raw voltage of his famed modular setup brilliantly.

Review: Recent years have seen WeMe Records and Jodey Kendrick develop a most interesting working relationship with the label issuing several albums from the artist under his Black Narcissus alias. A new year brings yet another album from the Rephlex regular for the utterly spot-on Belgian label under his JK name. Gea sees Kendrick spanning the full electronic circle, focussing mostly on drumming and percussion. The fast-paced breaks are swallowed by an ocean of urban, grimed-out sonics and heavy distortion. This is some of Kendrick's funnest material and it comes heavily recommended. Organic jungle for the heads!

Review: When AKA JK (aka New York based producer Jonathan Kreinik) last appeared on Throne Of Blood in 2010, the label was just establishing itself as an emporium of classy club music. Some two years on and Throne of Blood has really expanded operations with a transatlantic roster and a willingness to indulge their artists idiosyncrasies. And AKA JK is amongst their most idiosyncratic, especially on "2600 2600" which masterfully displays his talent for melding elements of refined pop with rough hewn industrial, almost Belgian nu beat rhythms. Sick remix package as per usual with DFA stalwart Shit Robot sitting alongside two Throne of Blood alumni in John Selway and Mugwump - with the latter's perhaps our pick of the bunch.

Review: Regis keeps the West Midlands tradition alive by bringing onboard fellow local legend Justin Broderick for the latest Downwards release. Interestingly enough "Exit Stance" sounds rather reminiscent of O'Connor or Surgeon's work, with its splintered beats and snarling mechanical funk. The hypnotic "Bullied By Love" experiments with textures plus inventive and layered rhythmic patterns for truly hypnotic effect. The slow-burning and seething fury of "Caveman" displays yet more diversity in Broderick's repertoire, proving his strong ability to create well executed techno grooves. Most known as the frontman of seminal grindcore/industrial metal outfit Godflesh, Broderick has had a prolific career spanning two decades as part of additional projects like Techno Animal, Jesu and Pale Sketcher in addition to collaborating live with Canadian techno duo Orphx and producing for bands such as Pantera and Mogwaii.

Review: Former Napalm Death member Justin Broadrick first brought his typically dystopian JK Flesh project to Hospital Productions label late last year, serving up a bleak and pitch-black EP of distorted industrial rhythms, droning noise and clandestine electronics. This album expands on the urban decay theme first explored on that set, delivering brutalist tracks that uneasily shift between redlined, concrete-clad techno, distorted dub, Meat Beat Manifesto style breakbeat, twisted IDM and hypnotic industrial funk. Despite the subject matter and the producer's noisenik reputation, Suicide Estate is actually fairly accessible, and certainly far more accessible than some would expect. It's bleak and dark, of course, but there are flitting rays of light and poignant moments amongst the peeling paintwork, damp walls and broken lifts.
