Review: A new four-track EP reflecting ever-expanded horizons for the band, 'Bloodline' is the latest output from loose-limbed, soul-stirring funk band Gabriels. Quickly finding fans in the likes of Elton John, Celeste, Paul Weller, Benji B, and Gilles Peterson, Gabriels should soon find plenty more on a record that could soundtrack a David Lynch epic; such is its drama, its suspenseful, late-night orchestral ruminations. Capped by frontman Lusk's voice - a weapon that swoops through the octaves breathlessly - Gabriels have that rare ability to make you re-evaluate music, and what it can do, in a heartbeat. Whilst Lusk provides the wow factor with that ridiculous larynx, Gabriels are very much a close-knit trio. Producer, keyboardist (and full-time video director) Ryan Hope hails from Sunderland but calls LA home. Fellow producer-composer and violinist Ari Balouzian, a man with endless musical projects on the go at any one time, gives Gabriels' songs a real 'feel' to them. Sultry, soulful mood music certainly isn't the band's modus operandi, but this new experimental EP should paint an altogether more rounded idea of where Gabriels are at today.

Review: Well, we couldn't really be happier. In fact, there is almost nothing to say about this album apart from the fact that it is absolutely, downright essential. Originally released in 1986 on Rough Trade here in the UK, it has been reissued a few time over the years but has always vanished in the blink of an eye and reappeared on the EBay and Discogs circuits for big bucks. Finally, you can indulge in a beautifully remastered version on virgin vinyl. In what is seen by many cultic Russell fans as perhaps his biggest achievement, the LP drifts in and out of light and shadows with utter ease, truly portraying the genius of the man who paved much of the way for modern electronic music generally. From start to finish, it's an ethereal mixture of sparse beats, effect manipulations and folklore, charismatically told by one of the only artists in the history of experimental music to really combine and successfully bind so many unexpected musical terrains. Review: Following their early slew of EPs that would slowly begin to reshape the modern metal landscape, it was 1985's full-length debut, To Mega Therion, that would immortalise Swiss extreme metal provocateurs, Celtic Frost, as the macabre saviours of a scene unaware of the perils that awaited it. Credited alongside Venom's aptly titled, 'Black Metal', as the true genesis of a scene and formula still not altered too greatly in the near four decades since inception, it's little wonder how many classic acts from Mayhem to Darkthrone cite the band, and this project in particular, as an integral influence. Sporting some of the literal greatest extreme metal cuts to ever grace tortured ears, such as, 'The Usurper', and the twisted epic, 'Circle Of The Tyrants', along with the iconic H.R. Giger drawn artwork, this classic can be traced back from the vast majority of black, death, doom and almost any other horrific subgenre of metallic origin.

Review: Recorded at Channel One Recording Studio in Kingston Jamaica and featuring the one and only Sly and Robbie, Innocent Lover was a 1979 classic from Trevor Hartley. Phil Pratt took care of the production and Tommy McCook and Ansel Collins also line-up on what is a super smooth selection of reggae rollers. The production is earthy and organic, with subtle effects fleshing out rach instrumental as Hartley's buttery vocals ring out up top, mostly musing on themes of love, romance and heartbreak.

Review: Australian vocalist-guitarist Daevid Allen was part of a richly innovative sene in Canterbury next to the likes of Robert Wyatt and Pip Pyle. He moved to Paris in the 60s to form Gong and always blended smart music with a sense of off the wall humour. His debut album Banana Moon found him working once more with bassist Archie Legget and vocalist Maggie Bell amongst others. They cooked up daring music that blurs the line between psych rock and more riotous dadaism in a collection of innovate sounds that still sound form the future to this day, meany years later.

Review: As well as his prog rock god status as part of ELP, English musician Keith Emerson is well known for his soundtracks for the likes of Dario Argento's 1980 movie Inferno. This Murderock album was written in part as a tribute to the master of Italian horror Lucio Fulci and was first released in 1985, described at the time as being like Flashdance meets Psycho. It's a mix of dance tunes for the day and some dramatic scores and was first reissued in 1993. This version adds four never before released tunes which were used in the backing to the most macabre scenes of the movie.
