Review: There is a steady run of Bob Marley & The Wailers reissues taking place at present, and hot on the heels of Island's repress of Catch A Fire comes Tuff Gong's no-nonsense repress of Exodus. It's another essential notch in The Wailers story, written and recorded in the wake of Marley's assassination attempt and brooding on themes of religious politics in the first half and love and faith in the second. The album is bursting with classics (what Marley album isn't?) but 'Exodus' itself is surely one of the most powerful reggae tunes of all time. If you need convincing, cop this and play it loud, preferably with the appropriate bass configuration. Quite simply, seminal.
