Review: Serge Geyzel debuts on Mechatronica with a killer collection of hypnotic electro, twisted acid lines, futuristic breaks and gut-wrenching machinefunk. Prioritizing the low end before anything else - and letting any further high end strokes spit through the top end like hard-limited overflows of dry ice - the likes of 'Ready?' and 'Sag' lift all embargos on the more involuntary-movement-inducing aspects of the electro sound, importing a huge sense of weight sure to rattle tweeters and bins alike. It makes sense for Geyzel to join the Mechatronica ranks; he's all but surrendered to our Landian machine overlords with this one, toning down any remaining semblance of humanism for a logcial continuation of the "kamikaze" approach explored on his Love Kamikaze project from 2022. A whopping sextet of tracks, facing the promise of our impending apocalypse head-on.

Review: Contemporary oddball dance pushers Exarde have been responsible for breaking many new artists of late, their latest being Mar.C, who professes a vampiric, gothic edge to his latest productions. Allegedly, Mar.C is part of a unique cabal of revellers who can see what others can't, with the liner notes of this EP mentioning "the dancing vampires you often see at parties"; of course, the artist is from Transylvania. Whether you hear vampirism in this collection of tracks or not, 'Tranceformative' is nonetheless a curious set of tunes, each of which get progressively weirder, culminating in the spine-tingling closing remix from P O.

Review: Intergalactic Conexion EP comes as the brand new four-track slab of heat by the Dutchman known as Furz. Lending his talents to local label Hoarder, the four cuts here are primed for bondmaking in the dance: opener 'Intergalactic Connection' says it all, with its repeated vocal refrain over a light-hearted instrumental organ-squelcher. Runners-up like 'Better Get Ready' and 'Double Funk' nod to cheesy Euro and Italo house tropes, but indulge them in a kitsch, not trite, way.

Can't Stop (4:42)

Wildcat (5:09)
Review: The Vivid label is yet another one from Burnski who also runs Constant Blanc and Instinct. He is s single handed garage hit making machine and he knows how to tap into the next gen, too. Here he calls upon Peaky Beats for a naughty and nasty three track affair that has retro feels but contemporary style. 'Can't Stop' opens up with a 2-step shuffle and steely hits, then 'Get Ready' gets more free and melodic with some boxing little melodic patterns and oscillating bass. Last of all is the most menacing and dark - 'Wildcat' flips into a dub wise swagger mid-way through that is going to blow up the clubs.

What I Got Is What You Need (House mix) (7:44)
If You Want Me (House mix) (7:19)
Review: DJ Junk is ironically named because all of the joints on this new 12" disco edit label are superb. Each one adds a house feel to some classic tunes from days gone by. 'Right In The Socket' kicks off with leggy drums and slapping hits next to jumbled toms and congas. It's a real cosmic crowd pleaser. 'Ready Get Down' then ups the ante with some taught and tight drum kicks overlaid with noodling guitar funk and big vocals. On the flipside, things get deeper with 'What I Got Is What You Need' which is a soul drenched stomper with heartfelt feel coos and last of all comes the more spaced out and spacious 'If You Want Me' which builds in teasing layers of well-filtered funk.

Get My Mansion Ready (dub)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

No one makes house music as steamy and rapturous as Floorplan aka Detroit's Robert Hood and his daughter Lyric. And there are few better labels for it than Classic, who now serve up this superb three tracker. 'Get My Mansion Ready' is family in structure - chunky but simple drums with a sermon-style vocal over the top and warm organ chords. 'Out Of Control' gets a little more loose with clattering hits broken bass loops, but still a church-like vocal. To finish off, Hood serves up a dub of 'Get My Mansion Ready' that has more turbocharged chords and even more uplifting energy.

Get Ready (Ben Liebrand Classic Groove) (6:36)
Review: The SOS band is one of disco's most loved outfits. They always bring plenty of funk and soul to their work and have a signature sound that is feel good and sultry. This time their latest comeback single 'Just Get Ready' gets a fresh lick from legendary remixer Ben Liebrand. His opening funk groove version is all glossy vocals, rich chords and nice fat bass riffs. Michael Grey then offers an even brighter, more optimistic version before Liebrand then closes out with a Classic Groove. It's slowed right down, has brilliantly old school 80s production and a killer b-line.

Review: This is a monster overview of one of roots and regales most vital labels over the last forty years. Coming in at a whopping 94 tracks across 12"s, 7"s, CDs, booklets and art cards, this collection packs in obscure sub-label rarities next to big hitters that all very much trace the history and evolution of the genre. Curated by VP Records' Carter Van Pelt, this is a great way to explore the label who made stars of artists such as Sean Paul, Beenie Man and Wayne Wonder through stoner anthems to deep cut soul soothers via empowering anthems that resonate to this day.

Review: Having previously used the Body 'N' Deep label as a vehicle for his own productions, main man Jovonn has decided to mix things up a little. "BND Projects Volume 1" gathers together a white-hot selection of deep and soulful jams from some of the long-serving American producer's friends and contemporaries. French legend Franck Roger steps up first with the warehouse-ready stabs, bumping drums, foreboding synth-bass and spaced-out vocal samples of "Get Ready", before Good Vibrations Music founder Sean McCabe wraps New Jersey style organ riffs around chunky drums, sparkling solos and rich chords on "Freak It". Over on side B heavyweight Delano Smith delivers some superb, string-laden Motor City deep house, while Monocue delivers the wonderfully deep, hypnotic and driving "Borrowed Days".

Review: Nat Wendell appeared for the first time last year with the excellent Theoretics EP, and now he's back with a classy joint for Courtesy Of Balance. "The Blues" rides on some addictive Lately bass and a tight set of drums, making great use of hypnotising synth flourishes to soften out the edges and make this the consummate modern deep house joint. "No Sample" is a little more steadfast in its pace and propulsion, but there's still plenty of mellifluous melodic action to keep you locked in. "Get Ready" rounds the EP off with more of the same - high grade house music imbued with soul but built for the floor.

Review: Brighton based wunderkind Edward Dickinson aka Tech Support serves up some more finely executed edits outside of his usual eponymous imprint - this time for Poland's Astropical, run by Marcin Krupa. He serves up a killer modern revision of a certain Air Power classic on "Taking It Back" powered by his tough drums and allowing some nifty filter sweeps to harness the energy of the loops. There's also a sexy boogie down vibe that's straight outta the '80s on "Get Down" and some smoky emotive deep house for loves on "Downtown" closing out another top release by this rising star.

Review: Geordie-in-Mexico Man Power has treated us to some top-notch twelves over the last few years, and this outing on DGTL is another winner. Check, in particular, opener "The Duelist", where poignant chords and decidedly Balearic piano flourishes stretch out over a stripped-back, acid-fired machine groove. Over on the flipside, "El Margo Del Tempo" is a superb fusion of creepy, horror-influenced chords, sparkling electronics and thrusting, EBM-influenced arpeggio bass, while "Put Your Hands On The Car (& Get Ready To Die)" sees the eccentric producer wrap punchy machine drums in foreboding chords and bubbly, ear-pleasing electronics.

Review: Saying that Editor's Kutz is going string would be an understatement, and although the label are only on their seventh outing to date, it feels like much longer that we've been graced with their inimitable style of disco editing. There's four cuts this time, a timeless bunch of disco groovers that have been re-moulded for the modern ear and its need for a steady but of 4/4. "Shining Bright" from VinylAddicted is any disco lover's dream come true, while Dan Johnson's "Love Affair" is a solid, fist-pumping bomb with one mighty bassline. On the B-side, "Stop On By" is more laid-back and cooler in its approach, but "Get Ready" is the shining star here, a deep, wet slice of dynamite funk that you could leave on repeat for hours on end.

Get Ready
Review: There's some hypnotic techno mischief afoot on this new release for Wrong State, as the label offers up the pairing of perennial Frenchman Alexkid with Chilean upstart Alejandro Vivanco, who has previously appeared on Cadenza and Lomidhigh in the past. As such the tone is a heads-down to-the point one on both of the original tracks, from "Camacho"s chunky mantra and its unflinching groove to the more slithering complexion of "Get Ready". Michael Melchner steps up for a remix of "Camacho" that shimmers with subtle detail and a more soulful outlook, harking back the likes of dB in his fidgety textures the whole way through.

Review: Romanian powerhouse All Inn returns to its intermittent Limited series for another pair of anonymous edits that pile the hooks on with a deft touch to create a fiery atmosphere in the context of the stripped down house scene the label operates in. Billed as a tribute to Eva Cassidy and Curtis Mayfield, "People Get Ready" takes a deadly piano loop and works the respective vocals with the skill required to make an edit stand on its own two feet. The dub mix on the flip homes in on the melodic loops for a more heads-down end result, but whichever side you pick the results are likely to be rapturous in the kind of parties that last for two days or more.

Studio 9 (Just Like That)
Review: Manchester's XXXY has been causing quite a stir in bass circles over the last couple of years. Now based in London his move towards the housier end of things appears to continue with this newie on Rinse. Deep and melodic, "Got Me So", conjures up melancholic warehouse parties of the late 80s, but updated with a big swirly breakdown and pitched up vocals. "Get Ready" is campy and retro and before you know it you're dancing on a pedestal with RuPaul at Sound Factory circa 1993, but "Studio 9" is the most badass track on here, with seriously attitude-heavy, jukey drums, laser stabs and hypnotic vocals. Awesome.
