Review: A welcome return to the compilation arena from Luke Una, whose deep record collection and pleasingly open-minded record collection make him a perfect curator. E Soul Cultura has a concept of sorts - the kind of vaguely Balearic but not genre-bound jams that the Sheffield-born, Manchester-based DJ would play to fellow E'd-up party survivors at 5am - but it's the quality of the music on offer that makes the compilation so essential. For proof, check the spiritual space disco shuffle of King Errison's 'Space Queen', the deliciously sub-heavy, post-bleep deep house soul of Sheffield outfit On's cover of 'Southern Freeez', the bruk-up soul of Type Sun's 'The PL', the Brazilian sunshine of Robson Jorge and Lincoln Olivetti's 'Eva' and the deliciously percussive, intergalactic jazz-funk vibes of 'Every Time I See Him' by Metropolis.

Review: It's the anime that changed the format forever, from storytelling to character design - Neon Genesis Evangelion is still, to this day, one of the most beloved, divisive and iconic animated series of all time. From influencing 'Madoka Magicka', 'Serial Experiments Lain' or 'Kill La Kill' to its resurgence in popularity thanks to social media and the infinite memes that the show continues to spawn off almost 30 years later. Review: Girl group Eva Eva Eva (who also worked as Le Figlie Del Vento) ever released only two albums - this self-titled effort from 1978 which for the purposes of this remix is newly appended with 'Love Me Please Forever', and another one that followed a similar naming convention - their 1977 debut Donna Donna Donna. All of them are cult classics that bring funk and soul and electric touches to a disco framework. The vocals are steamy and libidinous throughout and the grooves hella catchy. It's a classy work with plenty of fantastic hooks.

Review: Lee Humphreys and Evasive label head Rob Pearson are Lovable Rogues, a tech house pair with roots in the golden era of that sound which had its home in South London. It was this three track EP back in 1999 that launched their label and 23 years later there is still plenty of clamour for it. 'Look Into Your Eyes' kicks off with thumping kicks and crispy hi hats, 'Chica' is more playful with freaky synth sounds and a hurried rhythm that helps elevate your rush while 'Twilight Manoeuvres' closes down with spaced out cosmic tech vibes and plenty of mind-melting motifs. Classic tackle.

Review: Brooklyn's Wonderwheel Recordings welcomes Argentinian Lagartijeando aka Mati Zundel back to the fray two years after his much loved album Jallalla. This is another vast and expansive album that takes heavy inspiration from the artist's travels throughout Latin America with his signature shuffling and psychedelic rhythms underpinning each tune. There are earworm Brazilian melodies, sun kissed synths, traditional Moroccan Gnawa instrumentation and plenty of subtle folk string sounds next to a rich array of vocal samples all making this record come alive from the front to the back.

Run by DJ and producer Rob Pearson, a staple figure of Southeast London's tech house scene at its underground apogee, Evasive's take on the style is an authentic, diversive example of the genre's truest origins. Lovable Rogues is Pearson in collaboration with fellow tech pioneer Lee Humphreys; this is their second EP together, a special follow-up release (now reissued), not least since it logically follows on from the very EP that launched Evasive, 'Look Into Your Eyes / Chica / Twilight Manoeuvres'. Made by the pair in the deepest rural German sticks, the 'Interger' EP betrays tech house's early indebtedness to broken beat, acid jazz and electro, the B2 'Thursday' coming as the tricky favourite here.

Review: Legendary turntablist and acclaimed beat maker DJ Yoda is back with a new album Prom Nite this month. Just before the full-length drops comes this single from it on essential 7". It follows on from the well-received 'Feel Like Home' 45rpm last month and this time offers more well-conceived and carefully sought-out fusions. The a-side 'My Energy' features Eva Lazarus. It is a lovely soulful slow jam that has a breakup melancholy to it and lovely doo-wop vibes. Review: Moonshake formed in 1991 around the nexus of songwriters David Callahan and Margaret Fiedler and quickly got signed to Creation before enjoying a longer stint on Too Pure, the label that was also fostering the early career of PJ Harvey. Naming themselves after a Can track, they poured a messy assembly of influences into their sound and wound up somewhere in between scenes. At times noisy and angular like the best post-punk, and elsewhere locked into hypnotic grooves with a loose but focused drive, they still sound like nothing else out there. Now their debut album Eva Luna comes back into print as a special edition with nine bonus tracks taking in non-album singles, B-sides and a Peel Session, making it a definitive document of the quintessential outsider band.

Review: 24 years have now passed since UK hip-hop MC announced his arrival via the self-released 'Premonitions' EP. Almost a quarter of a century since making his debut, his rhymes have lost none of their bite, though by the sounds of Mork Calling Olson - his first full-length since 2017 - he's feeling a lot more world weary than he once was. That much is clear from 'Lonely World', where CW Jones and SINDYSMAN join him for a crackling, blazed, head-nodding trip-hop outing of the sort that was once the preserve of Bristolian superstar Tricky. It's a fairly accurate indicator of what's on offer, namely conscious lyrical social commentary, blazed beats, warming instrumentation, jazzy samples and occasional guest spots. The results are undeniably impressive, making 'Mork Calling Olson' a terrific return to form.
