Review: Silvana Noris was tragically overlooked back in her mid 80s heyday, laying down just three singles before drifting onto pastures new. Best Italy have dug out her shimmering Din-Don single and given it the new lease of life it so richly deserves, helped a little by DJ Harvey testing the cut out on his turntable travels. Noris' vocal is a curious wonder to behold, hitting a low register and imparting a gravelly tone that sits atop the punchy boogie production. Another slice of disco manna makes its way back into the limelight thanks to Best.

Review: Last summer, Evo and Soulstice launched Adventures in Paradise with a fine 7" of tooled-up funk reworks by J Sole and J Boogie. Here, the label returns to action with two more guaranteed party-starters. Fittingly, Evo makes his first appearance on the label with B-side "Mandingo Boogie", a killer edit of a low-slung disco-boogie heater rich in rubbery bass guitar, twinkling electric piano parts, spiraling electronic effects and punchy horns. While impressive, we can imagine DJs getting far more rotations from DJ Smash's cheeky A-side, "Your Pants Are Hot", which peppers a snappy, synth bass-propelled groove with samples from a well-known Godfather of Soul favourite.

Review: Bob James continues to innovate and remain revealing decades after first serving new standards in jazz funk. His latest album is another one that will connect with fans from across the ages not least because it features a rather prominent collaboration with the legendary hip-hop turntablist and producer DJ Jazzy Jeff who is best known for his partnership with Will Smith both in music and the hit US TV sitcom the Fresh Prince of Bell Air. Here Bob and Jazzy join up for 'That Bop' which is a thumping dance cut with big pano hooks that comes all those years after Jeff first samples James in something of a lovely full circle moment.
