Reflections (4:19)
Reflections (instrumental) (4:19)
Review: This 45rpm from Jr Thomas & Cutlass Cream will have your heart full and your mind dreaming. 'Reflections' is a first single from the pair that finds Thomas moving away from the more Jamaican influenced music he made with The Volcanos for labels Truth & Soul Records and Colemine Records and toward more vulnerable and honest song writing. It could be a reissue of a 60s classic but it isn't and is instead a fine collab with old friend Albert Perez Jr. from Minneapolis. The slow motion rhythms and twinkling melodies are perfect accompaniment for his smoky and downbeat vocals tones.

The legendary Farewell Concert - worldwide for the first time in HD
Notes: Cream in 1968 at the Royal Albert Hall was an emotional experience for the fans and the musicians, as it marked the end of an era. It was a final highlight of the band's career, who had released highly influential albums in the three years they were active.

The band performs their famous improvisational skills and unique musical chemistry. The concert is considered an important moment in music history and was an unforgettable event for the fans, who were able to experience the supergroup Cream live.

The mediabook with a foreword by director Tony Palmer and a personal text by Nettie Baker, daughter of the legendary drummer.

Farewell Concert: Live At The Royal Albert Hall in London 26, November 1968 - German cinema premiere: November 1973. Cream is considered the first supergroup in the history of rock music - The music magazine Rolling Stone listed the band as number 67 of the 100 greatest musicians of all time.

The legendary Farewell Concert - worldwide for the first time in HD - It is also cinematically remarkable concert recording, as the film through its means of expression (monochrome sequences, hectic cuts, preference for close-ups and detail shots, double exposures, etc., the film also documents the pop art and flower power movement of the late 1960s and with it the attitude to life of the young generation.

This live compilation, drawing from various performances, captures the essence of Cream's genre-defying sound and immortalizes the dynamic interplay between Eric Clapton's searing guitar, Jack Bruce's soulful vocals and bass, and Ginger Baker's groundbreaking drumming. Review: Just in time for Valentine's Day, System 108 from the Netherlands marks eight years of business with Eight Years Of Love Pt 1, a superb 12" packed with fresh house sounds from across the spectrum. Simple Symmetry & Lord Fascinator open up with 'The Search Continues', a thumping acid laced tech house cut with indie vocals while Cream Soda bring twitchy electronics and amped up drums. There's electroclash-style rawness from Kovyazin D, Lipelis & Cosmic G explore a more celestial sound that will place you amongst the heavens and Gleb Filipchenkow shuts down with slow, elastic, acid laced gurgles on his 'Mieux La' (feat Ode).

Review: This 7" soon to be classic, offers a genuine slice of Hip-Hop royalty with the original sampled from a track on the clip side. Wu-Tang Clan's CREAM is a timeless hip-hop anthem, blending gritty lyricism with a haunting piano loop. Released in 1993 as part of their debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), it epitomizes the group's raw energy and streetwise storytelling. Reflecting the harsh realities of inner-city life along with its infectious hook and vivid verses, Cream remains a standout track in the Wu-Tang Clan's legendary discography, revered by fans and critics alike for its authenticity and impact. For the B-side 'As Long As I've Got You' by The Charmels is a soul masterpiece that exudes timeless elegance and emotional depth. Released in 1967, this soulful ballad features lush orchestration became the inspiration for Wu-Tang's groundbreaking hit.

Review: Skilled Trade by Apollo Brown offers a glimpse into the early work of the renowned producer, showing his talent long before his Red Bull Big Tune Championship win and signing to Mello Music Group. Released in 2007, this beat collection demonstrates Brown's mastery of simplicity in production, eschewing elaborate sample choices for familiar yet skillfully arranged material. Despite its simplicity, Skilled Trade exudes a timeless quality that highlights Brown's innate ability to craft instrumentals. Each track resonates with a raw authenticity that speaks to Brown's early genius, setting the stage for his future successes. For listeners unfamiliar with Apollo Brown's early work, Skilled Trade serves as a perfect introduction to his signature sound and artistic vision. With its recent re-release, audiences have the opportunity to delve into the origins of one of hip-hop's most celebrated producers and witness the evolution of his craft.

The two short but sweet tracks on this little 7" are packed with eons of hip hop and b-boy history, all chopped up, spliced and diced into fragments that you will have plenty of fun pulling apart. There have been two preceding singles for the album - the euphoric power pop single 'My Golden Years' and the ecstatic 60s sounding 'They Don't Know How to Fall in Place' - both of whihc draw a lot of comparisons to legendary 60s bands, but this album, released on ice cream coloured vinyl, still has a persoanlity all of its own too.

Review: Perhaps snatching the crown for best North of England band name since English Teacher, Bored At My Grandmas House (the singer-songwriter project of Leeds-based musician Amber Strawbridge) presents a fresh new album, Show, Don't Tell, following the titular mantra to an absolute T, across a beautifully recorded 12-track indie album that indeed poses more questions than it answers (in a great way). With its subject matters candid (earning trust, social reticence, general early-twenties angst) and its song structures bite-sized, the overarching style is Bedroom Pop with capital Bs and Ps, blowing the rest of the competition out of the bunkbed studio with its simple chorus treatments, hypnotic guitar riffs and deft instrumental contributions from bassist and producer Alex Greaves and drummer Niall Summerton.

Review: Thundercat's last album, 2017's "Drunk", is undeniably one of the greatest full-lengths of the past few years - a dizzyingly varied and mind-altering affair that mixed and matched styles to create thrilling new fusions of past and present sounds. He's at it again on this delayed follow-up "It Is What It Is", which was co-produced by Flying Lotus and includes an impressive cast-list of guests and collaborators (think Kamasi Washington, Ty Dolla Sign, Steve Arrington, BADBADNOTGOOD, Lil B and Louis Cole for starters). Musically it's impossible to pigeonhole - think rubbery 80s funk meets spiritual jazz meets reggae meets hip-hop meets experimental beats meets... you get the idea - and that makes for inspiring listening. Whether it's quite as good as "Drunk" is debatable, but it's certainly superb.

There is old school bounce and playful organ loveliness to the opener 'Just Chillin' which is a super groovy, super cool cut to win over any crowd. 'I Need U' the glides on smooth hits with bubbling melodies and nice silvery hi hats oiling the groove. 'I'm Cumming' has a 90s New York bounce that will be irresistible in the club and 'I Believe' then closes out on some horn-lead goodness and gospel vocal joy with drums so perfectly well designed they are to die for.

Johnny Osbourne - "Ice Cream Love" (3:24)
Roots Radics - "Extra Time One" (2:45)
Review: Produced by Henry 'Junjo' Lawes and mixed by Scientist, 'Ice Cream Love' first slipped out it in its native Jamaica way back in 1980. The typically languid, weighty and dub flecked cut is built around a tweaked, replayed version of Coxsone Dodd's legendary 'He Prayed' riddim (a groove that has been used on countless reggae records before and since). Osbourne's lead vocal is typically relaxed and quietly soulful, while the involvement of Scientist on mixing desk duties guarantees more bass-weight and subtle dub inflections than your average roots number. Turn to the flip for a more spaced-out instrumental dub version based around the same riddim recording, with more effects-laden magic from Scientist.

If album titles are anything to go by, this one should give you an indication of the kind of sonics you'll hear when popping this 180g cream vinyl record on the belt-driven plate. Moving in more bittersweet, heartstring-tugging directions after a jankier set of EP movements years prior, the likes of 'Can't Stop' and 'Heartbeat/Into The Night' move through every influence from Jersey bounce to breaks, pitting deeply affected vocals and spacious synth bubblings against a thematic backdrop of "dark times (demanding) love, healing and forgiveness."

The artist is not one to hide away from a big hook or a pop tip line and always manages to imbue their work with tons of emotion. This new album is another step forward that investigates sonic realms ask just how broad the scope of club music can really be. That means Fuzzy Fantasy is in many ways a departure from all-out dance floor focus into something more human and nuanced.

He latest album 'Smile' is not as jam-packed with pop hits as past works have been, but it is still a competent collection of big tunes that will strike a chord with fans. It's packed with jaunty arrangements, self-reflective commentary and plenty of allusions to her private life and musically it touches on classic candy pop, trap influences and forlorn anthems, as well as some of the cartoon-ish styles she has been associated with since day one.

Review: Gaz Coombes is a bonafide national treasure. When you think back to his years as main man in Supergrass, while the band were up there with the most iconic of the time, they were very much of that time, and didn't necessarily give that much inclination as to the innovation and boundary pushing nature of the lead singer's future solo oeuvre.

Turn the Car Around is the latest case in point. As a record, it's remarkably broad yet totally coherent. It's epic and polished but notably gritty. Tracks like 'Long Live The Strange' veer from theatrical rock 'n' roll choruses to more intimate pared back verses, while 'Feel Loop (Lizard Dream)' is a swaggering slice of garage guitar stuff where the strained six strings act as second voice in duet with artist's vocals. Just two examples of the mastery at work, this is a modern classic.

Review: Since the release of the singles 'I'm Alive' and 'Good Samaritan' in 2019, fans have been foaming at the mouth for confirmation of a new full-length from acclaimed Swedish garage-punk superstars The Hives. Well, since the start of this year, eccentric frontman Howlin' Pelle Almqvist has been spotted numerous times on the Hollywood Boulevard holding up "protest" signs with slogans such as "The Hives Must Album Now!" and "Honk If You Want a New The Hives Album". This guerilla marketing has all been for a truly righteous cause as the group have finally put listener anxiety at ease with confirmation of The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons; their sixth album and first since 2012's Lex Hives, due out in August of this year. The unhinged, bangeriffic lead cut 'Bogus Operandi' also marks their first piece of new material since those previously mentioned singles from four years ago. Dancing shoes? Check? Uniformed suit? Check. First Hives record in a decade? Inbound.

Review: Steve Okonski is the leader of his eponymous Okonski trio and for his new album, he set time aside in the winter of 2020. His background is classical piano and for this one, he collaborated with Michael Isvara "Ish" Montgomery and Aaron Frazer with the aim of making a record driven by beats but entirely instrumental. Recording sessions were full of improv and spontaneity which comes out in the final cut with all its rich, triumphant yet pensive melodies and variation in tempo from calm late-night walks to more upbeat workouts.

Review: "A document created in the shadow of incredible darkness. One from which the creator hadn't planned on escaping and still doesn't. Hence the title of the album. It is the result of an illness that I've battled my whole life. It isn't something that the world has done to me. It's the world I live in, and it's no one's fault."
So says Brian Christinzio, AKA BC Camplight, of his sixth album. As ever, it's a musical masterpiece packing dense layers of instrumental experimentation and theses-worthy lyrical poignance. An artist who has never played by the musical rules, fans of strong juxtapositions will again be in there element, with a tracklist that spans grunge-y garage rock, twisted barroom journeyman stuff, theatrical guitar pop, and plenty more. But the sounds themselves are only one half the genius. When it comes to arrangements, things are as playful as they are innovative, keeping listeners guessing as to how structures will pan out.

Review: Opening on the grinding powerhouse of 'I', Kosmik Sun present three tracks of epic, cinematic heavy rock-metal which gives a nod to the likes of Mogwai and Explosions In the Sky. Albeit here things seem to have taken more of an influence from darker places, with each part of the triptych casting an eerie spell over the listener, transporting them to psychedelic, doom-laden otherworldly places. The side project of German aficionado Eugen Kohl, best known for the Crypt Witch project, Kosmik Sun also features members of Coven Spell and Devil Leaf, which, if nothing else, should let any newbies know exactly what they're in for. Steeped in deep stoner atmosphere, not to mention exceptional, gritty musicality, this is intensity for thinking people and it never lets up.

Born in Girona, Spain and based in Berlin since 2019, Alex Busse' Santacruz's Ameeva project previously came to life on the Lowless music label in 2020 and the album 'Fractura del SueNo'. His live set for the 9128 Birthday event took these experimental electronics to a deeper, more personal level, weaving friends' samples and conversations into a rich tapestry of drone and field recordings, creating an immersive and enveloping 40-minute narrative. That's been captured here by the 9128 label, which aims to document significant live performances by artists that previously performed on the 9128.live platform, with results that are imaginative and impressionist, like clouds of synths and other soundscapes with the serene relentlessness and sense of purpose as molten lava moving down the mountainside.

Review: Talk to anyone about Stranger Things and it will only be a matter of minutes before the sensational soundtrack is mentioned. The future retro synths of Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein have a huge impact on deepening the occult feelings you experience when watching the show and that continued through Series 3. Now you can grab the accompanying tracks on neon pink vinyl, which features the vulnerable "You're A Fighter", celebratory 80s synth pop stomps of "Starcourt" and meditative charms of "The Ceiling Is Beautiful" amongst other nuggets of gold. The producers themselves have said this is less a score and more a series of cues, and it certainly got us thinking.

Review: Everyone's favourite Mancunian miserablists Joy Division were masters of murky melancholy and this bootleg record proves it alongside their more well known studio long players. Let The Movie Begin was originally released in 2005 and features 26 tracks in all including tunes lifted from The Ideal bootleg, as well as some live and alternative versions later on and no fewer than 12 interviews with Ian Curtis, the late great lead singer of the band. It's raw and mired in lo-fi grit and grime as a bootleg, but deffo worth having for fans.

Review: The Cult's self-titled album (nicknamed Black Sheep to the band's devoted fanbase) is from 1994, just before they broke up for the first time. Apparently, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy recorded their musical contributions in different sessions - not that you'd know it hearing this cohesive, clear-sighted expression of early 90s rock, a detectable grooviness sneaking in among riffs and vocals. Establishing the band and preparing the way for the hits that followed soon after on Love and the unashamedly AC/DC-esque Sonic Temple, the LP also reportedly includes some of Astbury's most personal lyrics.

Review: It's not often a band can invoke claustrophobia and agoraphobia in a single album. Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have been building their reputation on a punk rock-desert guitar hybrid over the course of four albums, and on LP number five, Dark Rainbow, the juxtaposition has rarely been clearer. Some tracks seem wonderfully lost in the wilderness, while others are in the throes of a sweat-soaked basement gig. The contrast between opener 'Honey', with its high energy raucousness, and the more patient and emotionally vulnerable 'Man of the Hour', track two, is enough to show what we mean, although there are starker reminders of this quieter, aching side. 'Sun Bright Golden Happening', for instance, is a soft piano stunner, 'Can I Take You Home' feels so delicate you could almost break it without realising.

Review: Perhaps the most abstract, clangorous and genre-defying entry in the formidable Royal Trux catalogue, 1990s Twin Infinitives is a sprawling, tactile odyssey punctuated by Neil Hagerty's acerbic guitar stabs and Jennifer Herrema's sleazy vocal free association. Through the thick squalling gauze witch Hagerty and Herrema superimpose on each track, ghosts of A/B song form emerge and disintegrate, with blues licks and disarmingly gentle croons offset by rumbling mechanical loops and sonic shrapnel. It really feels like the ground zero, the most amoebic and uncompromising launchpad for what would become the Royal Trux sound. Highlights include the Henry Flynt-esque 'Ice Cream', the cavernous flute peals of 'Osiris' and the rollicking, fuzz-damaged 'Glitterbust'. One of the best from one of the best!

Review: The fifth studio album from New York's perenelially preppy masters of the catchy indie anthem sounds like a tantalising mix of trademark qualities and an ever widening eclecticism, not to mention lyrical concerns that mirror the big scale traumas and worries of American life through the minutiae of interpersonal relations. The title itself comes, appparently, from an eyewitness account of a plane that lost its roof mid flight - add your own geopolitical metaphor here. But in short, there'll be a few surprises but VW fans everywhere will also get a serious dollop of what they've been waiting for for almost five years.

Review: The legacy and catalogue of Prince is one which continues to reveal surprises and swerves even this many years after his death. There are a lot of different phases to dig into, but if you want the exhaustive run through his breakout years, look no further than the Hits 1 and 2 collections. Put together by Warner in 1993, as their relationship with the famously strong-willed artist was going south, this pair of compilations feature every hit that matters from 1979 through to 1992. There are stone-cold classics and some deeper fan favourites and rarities included - so many in fact it has to be stretched over two separate volumes.

Review: Grammy-nominated Texan psychedelic-soul band Black Pumas, led by Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada, return after their 2019 self-titled debut album - leading to the pair being put up for 'Best New Artist' in 2020 - with a bold statement to break the sophomore album curse. Lead single 'More Than a Love Song' is the perfect introduction to the sound, Burton's commanding voice riding on a wave of progressively zanier instrumental patches and choir vocal samples, with a sultry deep south tone that, oddly, reminds me of CeeLo Green. Quesada's production style is quick and loose, oozing with soul - nothing more to be expected from former member of Grammy-winning funk band Grupo Fantasma. The two describes Black Pumas as an "electric church", the synths and digital organs punctuating Burton's wistful wailing perfectly. If you're looking for a soul release to close out the year, this is it.

As such it includes a unique fusion of soul and symphonic pop with plenty of expressive excursions into jazz, gospel tinged vocal moments and even some jazz-funk, psychedelia and plenty of romantic love songs steeped in cosmic energy. Review: Vega Records finally drops this EP from Honeysweet having teased tunes from it on the Vega Records 5 Pack Unreleased III. It's a superb house offering with lashings of soulful groovers, all produced by Josh Milan. First out of the blocks is 'Last Night Changed It All' featuring Lawrence Clark on sax. It's a jam that will pack out the floor but brims with real musicality from the magical Rhodes, picked bass guitar, rhythm guitar and drums. 'Crazy' is a more raw, textured percussive sound but then come plenty more feel-good grooves for sun-kissed dance floors such as 'Being Free.'

Review: After an extended hiatus of nigh-on five years, Vampire Weekend has finally got around to recording a new album. Only their third studio set in total, Only God Was Above Us sees the trio muse on the weight of history - their own as much as anything else - while fretting about what lies ahead for the human race. Musically, much of what's on offer is densely layered and impressively loud, with loads of intricate musical detail (check the jazz horns and mad stereo panning of 'Classical' and the string-laden, White Album-era Beatles nostalgia of 'Capricorn') working in unison with their attractive, harmonic, saucer-eyed vocals. It's a bit of a triumph all told and one that proves that there's plenty of life yet in Vampire Weekend.

He is a machine when it comes to making music and barely a year goes by without another expansive new album form the Detroit badman. Here comes this year's and it has all the things you would hope for and expect: raw, unfussy but infectious house with dusty drums and 80s synths. Supercoolwicked is a frequently appearing guest who lends these tunes alluring vocal touches while the grooves themselves are subtly, effective tweaks on Smith's tried and tested template. We are here for it.

Review: Unabashed satirical wares straight outta Nottingham, Sleaford Mods somewhat charming embrace of British provincialism sees the semi-ironic nature of their music nestle itself in a space shared with Jamie T, Mike Skinner and Blackout Crew. Slightly wayward, political and patronising, their music can sometimes come off something like a scene out of Peep Show, though however tongue-in-cheek their commentary of the UK life can be, it's a gloriously proud album of cultural identity, and in among references to chip tune, bedroom produced beats, alternative Madchester-era sounds to rap and spoken word, it's a record embracing hoodies and trainers as much as it does anarchy and builder's tea. Oi!

Review: Remarkably, it's 25 years since the release of Lou Reed's seventeenth solo album, Set the Twilight Reeling. To celebrate this significant anniversary, Reed has decided to offer-up a fresh vinyl edition, this time on audiophile-friendly heavy wax with an accompanying booklet. To aid sound quality, the album has now been stretched over three sides of vinyl, with the fourth featuring an etched image of the album's artwork. It's a beautifully presented reissue all told, though it's the quality of the music - typically fuzzy, lo-fi and dominated by the twin attractions of Reed's proto-punk guitars and weather-worn vocals - that impresses most. While not one of the most celebrated sets in Reed's epic catalogue, Set The Twilight Reeling is still a hugely impressive and involving album.

The adventurous outfit are eclectic and have a far from predictable sound that combines acoustic sounds with African and Middle Eastern influences, a hint of Afro-Cuban Orientalism, spiritual jazz and avant garden flourishes. This album was recorded in 1980 and has a truly worldwide sound that very much fits in with the sound of the current jazz revival. There is cool jazz on 'Wet Walnuts and Whipped Cream', percussive drenched grooves on the title track and much more besides. A real classic.

'Miss Hunn'nay' features an insanely catchy vocal hook which loops out over some killer organ flex and a bassline guaranteed to get everyone grooving low down and nasty. It's Omar S at his party starting best. 'Money Hit Da Floor (Instrumental Mix)' brings it tough and deep, all snappy 909 beats, sharp stabs and those thick, immersive pads he does so well. 'Ice Cream (Instrumental Version)' closes this stellar 12" out with another finely chiseled workout which has all the hallmarks of an FXHE staple, rooted in the Motor City tradition but delivered with a panache that belongs to one man and one man only.

Reinhard Voigt - "Endlich XXL" (feat Eduard Weber) (4:16)
Review: Cologne's legendary Kompakt label has been rolling out these superb compilations for many years now. The 23rd instalment is another fine snapshot of the more matter and grown up end of the tech, minimal and techno spectrum with plenty of familiar faces as well s new school stars. Boss man Michel Mayer opens up with the bright melodies and swinging grooves of 'Talmi' before Jurgen Paape keeps it deep and delicious with more easy going grooves and keys. Elsewhere a Sofia Kourtesis remix if Perel brings more dancefloor ready sounds and Reinhard Voigt's 'Endlich XXL' (feat Eduard Weber) is a freaky one for the afters.

Review: British rapper J Hus has had a wild few years that have seen him break through onto the world stage with his unique brand of hip hop and Afroswing, while also falling on the wrong side of the law for possession of a knife in public. Beautiful and Brutal Yard is his third album and it has collaborations with Drake, Naira Marley, Jorja Smith, Burna Boy, Popcaan, CB, Villz and Boss Belly. Once again it shows off J Hus's ability to ride any type of beat with equal style as he muses on both the beauty and the brutality of the world around him. It's a thrilling listen with plenty of hip-swinging moments.

Review: .Three years on from the release of his hugely successful third album, Big Conspiracy, J Hus continues to make all the right moves. Now a genuine superstar of British music, the London MC has aimed even higher on Beautiful & Brutal Yard, enlisting the vocal talents of none other than Drake on 'Who Told You' (a Latin-tinged chunk of r&b slinkiness), as well as an impressive array of fellow MCs and beat-makers across an album that consciously pulls grime in a variety of accessible, radio-friendly directions. Lyrically, there are naturally some hard-hitting moments, but for every reflection on inner-city life and wider social issues there's a dose of loved-up sweetness and weary reflections on relationships. As a result, it's an impressively balanced and impeccably produced collection.

Review: We're happy to report that the music on the 'Son of a Biscuit' EP from Kuwahara aka Mick Wilson and Scott Gray is every bit as colourfully eccentric as the title it bears. 'Ginger Cut' is dubbed up cloud of sound billowing over choppy hip-hop breaks, with an old skool female MC poking her head out of it to have her say every now and again. Rich Tea's edit of the track takes it into housier territory but, like one of those old Orb ambient singles singles on Wau Mr Modo, still gives plenty of work to the studio's echo chambers. 'Jaffa Quake' goes for snazzy, jazzy overtones and off kilter breaks, 'Kustard Cream' offers up reggae skank, again served up with plenty of sonic exotica, and there's even a more relaxed, Balearic bonus mix of 'Ginger Cut'. A thoroughly nutty record, but a genius one at the same time.

Review: Although it's pretty tough to pick an exact starting point of hip-hop, the industry has generally been counting this year as the 50th since its formation. As such Sony are rolling out this double album of classic cuts which tap into the more popular end of the spectrum. There are stoner classics like Cypress Hill's 'Insane In The Brain', dark soul gems from Wu Tang such as 'CREAM (Cash Rules Everything Around Me)' (feat Method Man, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, Buddha Monk) and playful joints from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince in the form of 'Summertime' as well as many more highlights.

Grammy-nominated Texan psychedelic-soul band Black Pumas, led by Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada, return after their 2019 self-titled debut album - leading to the pair being put up for 'Best New Artist' in 2020 - with a bold statement to break the sophomore album curse.
