Review: Mineral Cuts is back with more otherworldly tech house offerings, this time in the form of a split 12". KG Beat is up for with a well constructed and prog-tinged track that is always on the move; always giving you the feeling that it is going somewhere big. It's the synth sequences that convey that feeling and mean you remain locked in throughout. Cosmic Soup Sound System then styes sup to twist melons a little more with 'Eddie De Boing De Boing,' another track that gives you a dancefloor rush with waves of warm synth over old school tech house drums that are perfectly clean and punchy.

Review: One of the great joys of Matthew Puffett's Future Beat Alliance productions is the stargazing futurism that oozes from each far-sighted melody, intergalactic chord and impeccably programmed beat. That sci-fi-centric positivity is evident throughout this EP, from the smooth and emotive goodness of opener "Truth?" and the sharp, spiraling alien melodies of "Leave This Planet (Alone)", to the ghostly ambient techno bliss of "Enter 030" and the becalmed, beat-free electronic fluidity of sublime ambient composition "Virtual Shoulder (To Cry On)". Elsewhere, "Zuidas" wraps ethereal electronics and funky acid bass around snappy broken beats, while "Bitten" is a dusty chunk of hip-hop/electronica fusion.

Review: Having kick-started his Reward System label last month via a fine EP of dancefloor futurism, Future Beat Alliance (long-serving producer Matthew Puffett) returns with a speedy follow-up. Title track 'Primordial Sky' is an arresting, pitched-down delight, with alien-sounding synthesizer lines and wayward electronic riding chugging, slow-motion drums and a throbbing, EBM style arpeggiated bassline. Puffett continues to explore the moody end of his electronic influences on 'Mind Race', a slightly dreamier slab of chugging intoxication, before opening side B with the shimmering sci-fi futurism of 'Mode 4'. The EP also contains a fine bonus in the shape of Detroit veteran Claude Young's wonderfully emotive, string-laden ambient revision of 'Birth' from recent FBA LP Beginner's Mind.

Review: We Play House's Our Beat Is Still New series has been something of a soar-away success, introducing a new generation of DJs to the distinctive, heavily electronic midtempo pulse of Belgian new beat via a constant stream of tribute tracks from contemporary producers. Predictably, there's more to admire on this fourth and final 12", not least the bass-heavy throb and rubbery electronics of Locked Groove's tribute to Belgian new beat/techno legend Frank De Wulf, "El Rio Negro". Elsewhere, young rave revivalist Innershades drops the moody and intoxicating "Massive Overdose", while Lauer impresses with the winding synths, juddering drums and saucer-eyed pads of "Planet Barty". FCL's stomping "It Began in Belgium" - all cheap electronics and proto-acid tweakery - is also pretty darn good.

Review: As the 3rd single of Japanese Synchro System's monthly release project, this includes a remix by Carl Craig!!! Kiyotaka Fukagawa (aka Calm, Organ Language and KF, and the owner of Music Conception label) and Kazuyuki Shimizu (aka Herbest Moon and as the rapper of Tha Blue Herb and the owner of the associated label, Blue Herb Recordings), combine here as the duo Japanese Synchro System and started their new project. This time an original song features the rap by Kazuyuki Shimizu under the name of Ill-Bosstino (You may never have heard of Japanese rap, though) and that remix by Carl Craig, who has been dropping amazing songs in the market. Speaking of the remix, we can say it uses the voice of Ill-Bosstino rather than making his words stand out. Either of the tracks here are mighty songs. And an insert with Japanese rap and English translation will be included, so it makes it possible for the people all over the world to feel that everyone lives on the earth are thinking about the same things when they are on dance floor, with enjoying crazy dance music.

Review: Everyone loves a good story behind a record and few come with a more interesting narrative than this debut (and perhaps only) Talamanca System 12". The story goes that Gerd Janson and Phil Lauer were enjoying the Ibizan hospitality of International Feel boss Mark Barrot last summer, to the extent they were both gifted his unused Studio Electronics 'Boomstar 303' synth. Eager to repay such a lavish favour, Janson offered to remix a track Barrot was working on, an offer which eventually resulted in this 12". Four versions of "Balanzat" feature here, with an original, acid reflux, Tuff City Kids refix and ambient reprise to choose from. If this is the only Talamanca System 12" we will see it's a shame as it's a mighty fine addition to the International Feel discography.

Review: Thomas Werner aka Dynamik Bass System has been pushing his own strand of high-powered electro this year, largely via his own Robotmachine Records. The title track brings forth some robot vocals and places them next to tough and driving 808 slices, while "Invasion Beats" does exactly what it says on the cover and removes the vocals in favour of a strict beatdown injection. On the B-side, "Out Of Control" is back in computer land, sounding something like Kraftwerk after a hefty dose of speed, leaving the punchy kicks of its instrumental, "Control Beats" to work their magic.

Review: Shockingly, seven years have passed since the last outing from New York collective Blazer Sound System. Here they land on fast-rising Manchester label Youth with a tidy 10-inch EP featuring two tracks apiece from the crew's two main artists, Rainstick and Zebrablood. The former who kicks things off with "Heavens Gate", a deliciously warm and melodious fusion of skittish, up-tempo beats, blissful electronics and kaleidoscopic pads, before returning on side B with the heavy dub-goes-breakbeat hardcore weightiness of "Dracobeat". Zebrablood's contributions are generally darker and more intense in tone, with the tribal drums, powerful sub-bass and spaced-out effects of "Whatcomesup96" hitting home slightly harder than the similarly inspired industrial dub workout "Destorto".

Review: Akira Arasawa opens up with psychedelic Balearic house on 'Panorama New Touch' while OR's 'Hammock Beats' is glitchy and low-slung downtempo. On the flip is the nine-minute head melter 'Liquidanz' with its rippling synth modulations and Hutte Sound System close down with the dreamy end of the night soother 'Fire Fly'. Thsi mproject sees Especial Specials joining forces ed up with Chillmountain Recordings - a label from Osaka, Japan - on a series of new EPs, this being the first of hopefully many. The idea is to show the world the talents the label has at its disposal. It's definitely a case of mission accomplished on this evidence.

Review: On their first Bastard Jazz release, "The Uptown Shakedown EP", Hydro hurdles expectations and delivers right where you want it dropped off...midtempo sounds meet Jamaican chat meet analogue afro boogie meet downtempo funk meet the big, booming dusty breaks we've all come to know and love the boys for. All on one tasty slab of well-seasoned wax. The title cut, "Uptown Shakedown" is a voracious midtempo romp with a hard hitting drum break, a deeply sunken synthesized bassline, and toasted ragga-style workout vocals from frequent Hydro collaborator Grand Supreem. It's a cut to straight murder a floor, having already lit up plenty of dances across the US and UK in early CD-R tests. Also included on the A-Side is a dub of "Uptown Shakedown", still bringing fire on to the dancefloor through the echo chamber and bits of the vocal sample swirling in and out of the track. On the flip, "Heat", Hydro delivers a dusted uptempo re-work of a traditional African arrangement, complete with a huge, gritty breakbeat, a saxophone solo and plenty of stops and changeups. Next up, "Beats for Mbenga" is an uptempo dancefloor-inspired cut with an infectious bassline under a big disco break, warped vocal snippets and tasteful synth action. Lastly, rounding out the EP is "Disco Illumination", a downtempo cut driven by a cosmic rhodes, a vintage Moog-esque lead, freshly scrubbed drums and rhythm guitar. A lovely way to round out the EP.
