Review: Originally planned for release last year to mark the 50th anniversary of the album's creation, Gil Scott-Heron's most renowned full-length returns in stunning, audiophile quality sound. This time round, the album has been stretched across two discs, both of which have been pressed at 45rpm for louder sound. Created by Scott-Heron and musical sparring partner Brian Jackson with the assistance of producer Bob Thiele, Pieces of a Man remains an incredible album, with a string of classic cuts - think 'Home is Where The Hatred Is', 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised' and 'Save the Children' - being joined by such lesser-celebrated delights as the fizzing 'Lady Day and John Coltrane', the blissful 'I Think I'll Call It Morning' and 'A Sign of the Ages'.

Btass
Review: After a strong 2014, in which he dropped two highly regarded EPs on his friend's CrazyJack label, Parisian producer Lowris pops up on Danish deep techno imprint Concealed Sounds. "AAA" sets the tone, with Lowris peppering a tough, undulating groove - replete with a chunky dub bassline - with all manner of cosmic noises, trippy effects and tipsy electronics. Delaphine regular S.A.M goes deeper on his "re-shape", which makes great use of liquid chords and heady melodies. Finally, "BTass" sees Lowris return to the dense, percussive style with which he made his name, turning in the sort of stripped-back drum jam that should ignite dancefloors that like it tough but minimal.

Review: The Only Music Matters label is slowly but surely building up a fine head of steam as it now offers up a sixth EP in just a couple of years. As always it is an unknown artist behind these stripped-back and direct-to-dancefloor beats and each one goes long for over eight minutes. That playtime is well warranted, too, as 'AAA001A' is the sort of groove you never want to end: dry drums and hits and paddy bass that are tightly woven together into a hypnotic sonic tapestry. 'BBB001B' is a little more gritty and twitchy to fire those sleep-deprived after-party synapses while 'BBB002B' shuts down with some underlapping tech-house funk and tripped-out designs.

Review: 12", 180g, Vinyl Only. Limited copies and no repess! Stripped down instrumentation, panther-like drums and bassline pairing, and the odd deep voice booming in the dark is what to expect from these thee handy, playable cuts, that clock in somewhere between the progressive and minimal markers.

Review: After the splurge of Spaghetti Western compilations that they've put out over the last few years, the Semi Automatic labels is back with another heavy dosage of niche soundtrack action for the heads. Ranging from psych rock to prog and electronic, Library Of Sound Grooves focuses on the Italian cinema movement between 1967-1975, years when the European nation really knew how to put together films and scores. This excellent selection of music contains plenty of garage fun, spearheaded by the likes of The Sparrows, The Pawnshop and even Italy's own Gianni Marchetti, but there are also more experimental moments, like the percussive twist that is Luis Bacalov's "Boulders Movement 2", or master Bruno Nicolai's "Giano". It is a must-have for anyone interested in one of the finest cinema movements ever.

Review: The 10th Zeitnot release is a suitably high class one to mark such a mini milestone. Label friend Nick Gynn steps up with what is his biggest and best collection of music yet across two vital 12"s. His tracks are fusions of acid, techno, house and electro that warp your mind, body and soul. The golden era of IDM defines opener 'AAA; and then there are withy dance floor bombs like 'Dynamic Traces' and squelchy, complex electronic workouts like 'Lourd.' This is a perfect cross section of styles and eras and one that provides plenty of high class weaponry for DJs.
