Review: A truly historic album: From Here To Eternity is Moroder's virgin voyage into the electronic galaxy, commanding a rocket made purely of synths and heaven-sent vocals. The LP that "I Feel Love" inspired just months before in the summer of 77, it's the very foundations of Moroder's synth disco legacy with every track shimmering with future echoes of the decades that have followed. From the evangelistic choral vocals and rising arpeggio of "Utopia" to the slinkier pre- new romantic introspection of "First Hand Experience In Second Hand Love" by way of the epic high energy vocodered "Faster Than The Speed Of Love", this still hits hard with sonic science 40 years later.

Review: The fourth and final studio album from the now disbanded French electronic duo, Daft Punk, Random Access Memory gets a re-release on Sony complete with an exclusive poster and 16-page booklet. This release pays tribute to late 1970s and early 1980s American music, particularly the sounds hailing from Los Angeles at the time. For this seismic album, the band developed and enriched the minimalist production style typical of their previous releases though collaborating with session musicians performing live instrumentation, limiting the use of electronic instruments to simple drum machines, a custom-built modular synthesiser, and their signature vintage vocoders. Spanning an impressive selection of genres from disco, to prog rock and pop, the album also boasts a serious list of chart-topping collaborators - from Nile Rodgers, to Pharrell Williams, to Giorgio Moroder. Featuring hit single, 'Get Lucky', this album is already considered a defining release of the 2010s pop/electronic landscape.

Review: It was a logical next step for the coveted Late Night Tales label and compilation-mix-back-to-ours-selection series. While the brand has been known for inviting some of the finest DJs, artists and acts from the loosely defined and unarguably broad world of electronic music to deliver a personally curated tracklist of hugely various music, At the Movies breaks rank and instead looks to bring together work connected on a thematic level. As the title makes very clear, this is all about cinematic scores.

While there are a million and one of those compilations out there already, this stab at celebrating great soundtracks certainly does stand out. Perhaps chosen by more astute ears than the average 'churn-it-out' cash cow efforts, you'll find some relatively obvious choices for the LNT generation ('Mad World', anyone?) alongside more surprising choices, such as foxtrot classic 'Midnight, The Stars & You' and Wendy Carlos & Mark Ayres vocoder'd up take on 'Ode To Joy'.

Review: For those of you of a certain age, the Now compilations are an immediate shot of nostalgia direct into your bones. They started back in the 80s and kept going well into the new millennium - great sources of fun for current dance and pop hits with occasional dalliances into more specific collections. This one is a 1984 Yearbook that rounds up the very many hits of that year including Ray Parker Jr's 'Ghostbusters,' Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder's 'Together In Electric Dreams' and the superb Eurythmics, Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart gem 'Here Comes The Rain Again.' A great reminder of the good old days of pop.

Review: It's surprisingly not that common for a director to pick music for their movie. There are accomplished experts at scouring and sourcing the most powerful and moving tunes for cinema, and, of course, composers who have established themselves as maestros of silver screen scores. Luca Guadagnino is an exception to the rule, then, with his coming-of-age drama, Call Me By Your Name, soundtracked via his choices. And what choices they are. The film itself is beautiful and incredibly moving, adjectives which also apply to the accompanying sounds. From the theatrical pop of Loredana Berte, to the staggering instrumentation of Ryuichi Sakamoto and heartfelt cries of Sufjan Stevens, this collection of tones is as varied as it is captivating from beginning to end, and - whether you've seen the flick or not - deserves a place on everyone's shelf.

Review: It's difficult to ignore the sobering realisation that the swan song LP from French robo-duo Daft Punk is already celebrating its ten year anniversary. Although divisive amongst their fan base, the organic instrumentation and compositional homage to retro disco still feels like an artistic endeavour the pair of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo needed to add to their back-catalogue before graciously bowing out (or powering down) on their own terms. Following an expansive deluxe edition released earlier in the year, this drumless version strips away any and all notable percussion to offer the velvety basslines, glistening synths and lush grooves a chance to take centre-stage. With re-imagined approaches to hits such as 'Instant Crush' (featuring The Strokes' Julian Casablancas) as well as the plethora of Pharrell Williams collaborative bangers from 'Lose Yourself To Dance' to the once inescapable 'Get Lucky' (also featuring Nile Rodgers of Chic), this project is a unique and vital addition for lifers, newcomers and boogie enthusiasts alike.

Review: The music of London's Blitz nightclub is celebrated with a new box-set curated by Rusty Egan, the man who, with Steve Strange, helped usher in a transition from the late 70s musical gloom into a glamorous, sonorous new 1980s. After their prior band, Rich Kids, disbanded in 1978, Egan and Strange saw through their enterprising excesses with a new venture, launching the Blitz club as a wine bar in Covent Garden. Bottling the unique, generic essence of the nightclub - at a time where the styles and sounds of David Bowie, Sade, Spandau Ballet, Boy George, Billy Idol, Ultravox, Visage, Marilyn and Gary Numan reigned supreme, yet were often not heard all in one physical place - this new reminiscence compilation brings both well-known and lesser-heard gems of the Blitz era to a fantastically fresh set of ears, proving that even you, too, can be a hero, just for one day.

Review: The 1970s was a golden age for popular music meeting with the ever-booming movie industry, and there was an abundance of original themes to major features which were incredible songs in their own right. Now Music On Vinyl has gathered together some of the greatest on a double pack compilation featuring fantastic artwork and an insert loaded with photos and credits. The list is heavyweight, taking in Giorgio Moroder's theme from Midnight Express, Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells', Isaac Hayes' 'Shaft' and the Diana Ross version of Billie Holiday's 'Strange Fruit', as featured in the film 'Lady Sings The Blues' (in which Ross plays Holiday).

Review: Rusty Egan Presents Blitzed! offers a vivid sonic journey back to London's Blitz Club circa 1980, capturing the essence of the New Romantic movement with meticulous detail. As the resident DJ at the epicenter of this cultural phenomenon, Rusty Egan curated a soundtrack that defined an era and shaped the future of British pop music. This compilation meticulously captures the eclectic mix of influences that fueled the Blitz Club's electric atmosphere. From Bowie and Roxy Music to Kraftwerk and European electronic pioneers, Egan's sets seamlessly blended diverse musical styles, creating a sonic tapestry that transcended genres. The tracks on Blitzed! reflect the club's diverse clientele, from fashion designers to art school kids, post boys to pop stars in the making. The compilation's contemporary photography by Sheila Rock, Peter Ashworth, and Terry Smith, along with insightful sleeve notes by Alexis Petridis and Rusty Egan himself, provide a comprehensive look into the era and its cultural impact. Blitzed! not only celebrates the music of the time but also serves as a historical document of a revolutionary moment in British pop culture. This selection is a blend of familiar artists and tracks that may not have been massive hits but still hold their own in the '80s music scene. LP 1 kicks off with Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's 'Telegraph' and Blancmange's 'That's Love, That It Is' and Divine's 'Love Reaction,' setting the tone for a journey through the eclectic sounds of 1983. Fun Boy Three's 'The More I See (the Less I Believe)' and Japan's 'Canton (Live)' add depth to Side B, while LP 2 continues the exploration with tracks like Bauhaus's 'Lagartija Nick' and The B-52's 'Song for a Future Generation,' offering a mix of new wave and alternative sounds. Oliver Cheatham's 'Get Down Saturday Night' and Malcolm McLaren's 'Soweto' bring a funky twist to the collection. LP 3 delves into the pop and rock hits of the year, featuring The Fixx's 'Saved by Zero' and Modern English's 'I Melt with You.' Review: The mega successful debut album from indie-pop sister trio HAIM celebrates its ten year anniversary this year with this deluxe reissue. Featuring hit singles such as 'Falling', 'The Wire', and 'If I Could Change Your Mind', as well as a batch of funky remixes from the likes of Cyril Hahn and Giorgio Moroder, this 2xLP is the ultimate edition for fans of the Los Angeles sisters, who've gone on to collaborate with the likes of Vampire Weekend and star in Paul Thomas Anderson films in the decade since. Days Are Gone was one of those albums that was seemingly everywhere in 2013, and the staying power of these Californian soft-rock tinged pop bangers has aged like the snifters offered at a San Fernando Valley wine country tasting.
