Review: Adam Beyer's Drumcode remains out in front of the pack when it comes to big room techno. Whether going to new school artists or old school legends the results are always the same - epic and explosive. This time out we get both on one EP with Teenage Mutants going first with 'Dark Clouds (feat Heerhorst & Peter Pahn). It has synths fired from a hadron collider as they shoot over the face of the acid and bass-laced drums. On the flip side is the mighty Slovakian Umek with 'Footmachine,' a dark and heavy banger with flat-footed drums and all sorts of cosmic synth turbulence. Potent stuff for sure.

Review: The latest short form offering from Scottish alternative indie rockers Teenage Fan Club will do nothing to dissuade fans the Glaswegians remain at the cutting edge of their sound. After a four year hiatus, they've returned to hit us with catchy, upbeat, sweet and jangly aural sugar that masks the rather melancholic lyrical content. 'Home' bounds along with summer seemingly pouring from every guitar chord, while Bellshill's finest sing of dejection, frustration and longing.

Then we are told 'Everything's Falling Apart' through harmonious vocal delivery on the B-side: an understatement of epic proportions given the current global situation, it's indicative of the band's well-established modus. Packing suggestion and inference beneath easily-accessible instrumentation is a sure fire way to make as many people as possible stop for a long, hard think.

Review: Following the departure of co-founder Gerard Love in 2019, many Teenage Fanclub fans feared for the future of the long-serving Scottish band. They needn't have worried. Endless Arcade, their first album since 2018, feels like a gloriously baggy, jangly and positive return to form, with the rejigging line-up confidently striding through hooky, ear-catching indie-pop songs laden with a combination of atmospheric acoustic guitars, jangling, Johnny Marr style electric guitar riffs, subtle references to the Stone Roses and the kind of glassy-eyed group harmony vocals that were once at the heart of late 1960s dream-pop records. A confident, accessible set of future sing-alongs that fans old and new should adore.

Review: When Scottish alternative rock heroes Teenage Fanclub first dropped this, their third full length outing, it was something of a milestone. Arriving via the world famous and universally (well, we think so anyway) revered label Creation Records certainly never does anyone any harm, but in this case all the stars aligned in such way to offer the band what every British guitar act aims for - US success.

American tastemaker title Spin magazine even crowned it Album of the Year for 1991, a sure sign of its impact over the other side of the Atlantic. Whether you'd agree with that accolade or not, it's a classic example of jangle-noise-power pop indie that really helped define what those words actually mean for at least two generations to come. A landmark release.

Review: Often referred to as "Ramones-core", "Weasel-core" and "leather jacket punk", Wyoming mainstays Teenage Bottlerocket have amassed a sincerely devout and faithful cult following thanks to their retro influences and effortless ability to re-purpose their old school influences for a modern audience. Following up their 2021 debut full-length Sick Sesh! with the snappy four-track 7" So Dumb feels like a brief moment of self-therapy and catharsis, with the lead title-track taking aim at people's ignorance and refusal to work together during the covid pandemic, while the B-side opener So Stoked balances these frustrations with the signs of community that were evident. Here the band asks for ten minutes of your time to look at both sides of the coin with a reliably urgent batch of bouncing, classic pop-punk.

Review: Three decades deep and still going strong, Teenage Fanclub return with their eleventh studio album Nothing Lasts Forever. It's the sound of a band with a mighty grasp on warm, melodic indie rock having helped define the approach back at their inception in the 90s. The Scottish outfit are leading the album with 'Foreign Land', a single which bursts with all the soaring brilliance we've come to expect as breezy acoustic strum and fuzzed-up electric leads spiral around each other underneath Norman Blake's unmistakable vocals. That's but a primer for an album full of the nuance and reflection, not to mention ear-snagging hooks, that Teenage Fanclub have made their name on.

Review: National Album Day 2023 throws up another treasure here with Teenage Fanclub's Bandwagonesque album from 1991. The Scottish alt-rockers were known for their power pop and noise-pop sounds and this second album saw them crossover to have some genuine success in America. The record is best known for 'Star Sign' which reached number four on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart while 'What You Do to Me' and 'The Concept' were also successful hits, in part because of their great vocal harmonies. Critics note the album was heavily influenced by William Alexander Chilton and Christopher Bell but it remains a fan fav.

Review: Hailing from the London rat race, MUX step forward with the first release on Teenage Father and lay their distinctive style out for all to witness. Their broad-reaching indie rock sound has undertones of electronica, grunge and a very British swagger that deserves to get them onto radio playlists and festival line ups aplenty. "MDMA" rumbles along somewhere between Soulwax, Kasabian and Queens Of The Stone Age, while "Teenage Father" ups the intensity with a punky thrum behind the raucous guitars and grinding synths, and then "Stray" finds the band mixing up the time signatures for the most adventurous cut on the record.

Review: French label Skylax is back with its Wax Classic offshoot, this time welcoming its most prolific talent, Signal ST. His Teenage Catalog is a superbly sophisticated house outing that looks to the traditions of the likes of DJ Sprinkles and the smoky depths of German label Dial. This artist showed his chic sounds in fine style with his acclaimed album Zapoi And Other Dysfunctional Love Stories here in 2021 and now offers up five more mesmerising tracks, including the captivating 'Going Home' and the mysterious 'R2D2 Secret Lover.' The EP also takes in the silky allure of 'Stayin Around' and the ethereal beauty of 'First Drift (Park Mix),' alongside the sweet rhythms of 'Genau.'

If it feels thinner, it is.

By lowering the aluminium body around the keyboard, the new OP-1 field feels lighter, thinner and more precise. with 2k moulding Teenage Engineering have also managed to fit a dual 2.4 GHz antenna system inside the aluminium body.

The back is warm, velcro and bass.

Two soft velcro rings have been added on the back for fastening covers and accessories. Perhaps you want to stick your op-1 field on top of your full size keyboard, or slap it on a guitar? Use the included adhesive looped back and start experimenting. On the right you'll find an additional passive loudspeaker for hugely improved bass. And for a 'no-more-cold-metal-on-your-lap' experience, the aluminium body has been folded in a warm, soft touch, hard cover.

The first accessory out using the velcro rings is the Bill Amberg leather wrap that attaches to the back and wraps around the op-1 field and locks around the encoders.

Off the record.

Picture yourself in an interview situation. The reel on the TP-7 is spinning slowly, the bright red record lamp is lit. Both the reel and the lamp indicates that a recording is taking place. The interview is going quite well. The situation gets heated, you're suddenly asked some personal questions. Clean the shell of the unit with a microfibre cloth. Use pressurized air to remove dust from the faders.

To keep the battery healthy, the unit should be charged at least every 6 months. If not used for a long time, it may not charge again.
