Review: The changing face of nu-jazz is heard mutating once more on this third album by Soulstatejazz, released via the Chapelle XIV label. Band-led by multi-instrumental talent Tom Ellis - who is here heard on drums, percs, bass, guitars, piano and synths - he's backed up by Bugu Pala and Charles Morgan on vocals, Michiel Renger on tenor sax, Dave Elson on electronic percussion and Vicky Flint on trumpet and flute. The result is a rich, hypnotic and swirling journey through the wateriest ends of improv-based electronic jazz, making for a landmark new album.

Review: Javi Frias has earned a solid reputation as a producer on the international disco scene since he began releasing his edits and reworks back in 2015. However, this year, during confinement, he decided to put editing aside to unleash his creativity and start recording his own productions, playing with synthesizers, electric pianos, syncopated basses and tribal percussion, and the result is this 'Sunset Disco EP'. A collection of songs that take us to a summer sunset on a beach in paradise that represent a huge leap in the career of this artist. The A side begins with 'Give Love', a hedonistic and melancholic disco song, followed by 'Noche Tropical', with Balearic overtones and reminiscences of a Caribbean party. Side B opens with 'Are You Really Fellas?', a funky little number featuring jazzy guitars and smashing bass. 'Dance With Me' brings us back to the field of the emotional and evocative disco. And finally 'Musical Connection', with touches of reggae downtempo perfect to say goodbye to this eternal and warm sunset.

Review: Spanish DJ, producer and Night Shift records boss Javi Frias presents a new EP of disco edits that take the vibes of the 70s and re-fit them for the current dancefloor. As you might imagine, each of the four tracks seemingly has PARTY stamped across it in giant capital lettering, from the opening stomper 'Hot Damn!' with its bright-as-a-button brass section and the wah wah guitar of 'Dance To The Music' to the proto-house of 'The Spirit'. But the best is saved to last - the bendy funk bassline gymnastics of 'Feel Good', quite irresistible.

Review: Rejoice! Technimatic return with their fourth studio album For All Of Us and it's another stunning immersive trip into some drum & bass's most musical and soulful corners. Always keeping the perfect balance between dreamy and dancefloor, flavours range from the mischievous rave twists of 'Coming Back' to the hazy halftime swoons of 'You Call Me' by way of rich DRS-fronted soul ('Risk Everything') and rattling feel-good Creative Source style liquid ('Moment To Moment') With less featured vocalists and more focus on timeless drum & bass vibes that they first made themselves known with, this is arguably one of Technimatic's best albums to date.
