Review: Next up in Blue Note's Tone Poet series of classic reissues is Horace Silver's Blown The Blues away long player, which has been mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes especially for the occasion. It comes on heavyweight vinyl and captures all the glory of the original 1959 album which is known as a hard bop juggernaut. The quintet also featured trumpeter Blue Mitchell, saxophonist Junior Cook, bassist Gene Taylor and drummer Louis Hayes alongside the masterful pianist and composer that is Silver himself. Groovy swinger 'Sister Sadie' is a real favourite here while 'Peace' is a fine ballad.

Review: Best known as a titular member of Durand Jones & the Indications, a group whose signature soulful sound has seen them reach international audiences, Wait Til I Get Over marks Jones' first foray into solo work. Using this as an opportunity to delve into the more personal, storytelling potential of solo artistry, the record is firmly situated in his hometown - Hillaryville, Louisiana -; a town initially founded as a form of reparations to previously enslaved African Americans. The first single to be released from the album, Lord Have Mercy, travels through Jones' family history, recalling his grandmother's memories of moving to the town as a child, via cathartic, wild and raucous vocals. Review: One of the greatest things to happen to the vinyl industry, the beloved Australian rock collective are a force to be reckoned with in terms of releases. For all their conceptual and experimental releases however, 'Omnium Gatherum' works exactly as prescribed - a latin phrase roughly translating to "just a bunch of stuff". The double LP is a collection of reworked unreleased material, as well as original music tacked on to boot - King Gizzard fans never have to worry about getting bang for their buck. Expect frenzied shredding, nu-metal cuts and the occasional synth-pop banger. The real highlight here is 'The Grim Reaper', a fusion of hip-hop and medieval instrumentation if you can believe it. Kenny-Smith's flow is no doubt influenced by the Beastie Boys era of hip-hop, a style being repopularised by the likes of Joey Valence & Brae. The album is a crazy patchwork of genres that feels not unlike watching your favourite movie in the form of a highlight reel.

Review: Best known as a titular member of Durand Jones & the Indications, a group whose signature soulful sound has seen them reach international audiences, Wait Til I Get Over marks Jones' first foray into solo work. Using this as an opportunity to delve into the more personal, storytelling potential of solo artistry, the record is firmly situated in his hometown - Hillaryville, Louisiana - a town initially founded as a form of reparations to previously enslaved African Americans. The first single to be released from the album, Lord Have Mercy, travels through Jones' family history, recalling his grandmother's memories of moving to the town as a child, via cathartic, wild and raucous vocals. This is a release that masterfully bridges the internal conflict of feeling connected to a place that's at once home but also a historically complex space for its African-American community. Note this edition is a limited gold and blue pressing exclusive to Juno.

Review: A quarter of a century after it first arrived in record stores, Suede's third studio album, Coming Up, still sounds remarkably fresh. One of the undisputed artistic peaks of the Britpop movement, it was famously recorded after internal struggles led to the departure of one of the band's driving forces, guitarist Bernard Butler. Yet listening to the album, you'd never know. Brett Anderson's vocal performances are impeccable, while the music - swooping, impactful and infectious - is amongst the best the band ever recorded. This anniversary edition expands the album via a second disc of B-sides from the period, while the deluxe, hardback book style packaging also includes a rather nice booklet full of band photos and full lyrics.
