A few years ago ZVEX Effects released the Candela Vibrophase, a candle-powered vibrato/phaser machined from solid brass and glass that used a mix of 1800s technology (a Sterling heat engine) and 60s/70s audio circuitry to create a lovely swirling effect. After numerous requests to put that sound into a guitar pedal, they came up with a way of dramatically broadening the spectrum of textures available using the original circuitry from the Candela.

It's presented to you here as the Vibrophase, a five-knob four-stage phaser that creates phase and vibrato nuances never heard before. Five knobs! Count 'em! Speed sweeps from maddeningly slow to puppy dog flippy, vibrato/phase sweeps from, erm, you'll figure that out, feedback sends the output back through the phaser again to raise intensity, and there are controls for the top end and bottom end of the sweep so you can completely tailor the sound to your song.

Notes: The Zorx 1U SILENCER is a clickless 20 HP 4 channel performance silencing module that lets you manually switch each channel on and off, thereby muting it, with latching or momentarily capabilities. There is also a MIX OUT that sums all of the SILENCER's outputs into a single mono output. A connector cable [included] can be connected from the rear of the Zorx 1U CV Bus to the rear of the SILENCER which will take the last four outputs of the Zorx 1U CV Bus and duplicate them, normalling them to the corresponding inputs of the SILENCER. Illuminated numbered dots correspond to the 4 channels of the 1U CV Bus for easy recognition.

The SILENCER can be used as a 4-channel on/off/(on) performance switch, a 4-channel audio or CV mixer, or a combination of the two while having control of which channels you want in the final mix.

The SILENCER consumes +12V 40mA and -12V 40mA and has a depth of 40mm.

Faceplate is black matte with copper.

Review: Cork based Irish post-black metal pioneers Altar Of Plagues are often cited as one of the pioneering acts to combine elements of second wave tremolo-picking, blast-beating black metal with post-rock and euphoric shoegaze which has since been popularised by artists such as Deafheaven and Liturgy. Trilogy serves as an encapsulation of the band's three vital full-lengths, White Tomb (2009), Mammal (2011), and the epic swansong Teethed Glory & Injury (2013), all re-issued with new artwork and design, as well as being remastered for vinyl from the original tapes. Likely to be the final time these works are ever pressed to wax, at least by label home Prosthetic Records; this is a definitive collector's piece of one of the most underrated and integral contributors and elevators to the black metal genre in the 21st century.

Notes: The Touellskouarn "Sil Kontrollet" tabletop module is a LowPass voltage-controlled filter (VCF) The filter is a 12dB per octave low-pass filter that can be self-oscillated, this way it can produce a sine wave with V/Oct tracking capability. Notes: The Z2040 is TipTop Audio's redesign of the most famous analogue filter from the polysynths of the 80's and features Tiptop Audio's signature lush, big, and creamy sound. Its frequency sweeps make thick bass lines and leads with great dynamics. When modulated with audio frequencies through its various inputs, the Z2040 gets quite colourful and is capable of creating many new sounds and textures as the forces of the incoming waves and their harmonics blend through the filter's non-linear circuit. When set with Resonance feedback fully up, the Z2040 transforms into a pure sine-core VC-Oscillator, great for making snappy percussive elements and whistling sounds.

A look under the hood will find that the heart of the Z2040 is a discrete design 4-pole low pass filter with a core similar to that of the SSM2040 filter chip, used in the 80's Prophet 5 Rev 2 synthesizer, and its brother the SSM2044, used in the famous early EMU samplers and PPG synthesizers of the 80's. Both filters are considered by many to be, "the best sounding filter ever".

The Z2040's four modulation inputs are built to handle CV and audio signals, enabling deep modulation of the filter core and passing signals. A VC resonance input is provided to modulate and even clip the sine wave produced by the filter feedback loop. A Frequency Modulation input (FM) provides dynamic filter sweeps and the unique VC-FM index allows modulation of the incoming FM signals. On top of that, the Z2040 comes with an audio VCA that can be configured to act upon the input or the output of the filter.

Featuring the final four albums recorded under his own name, all housed in a sideloading box with newly created art on five 180g coloured LPs (1996's Angry Machines on Halloween orange with black marble, 2000's Magica on transparent blood red and black smoke, 2002's Killing The Dragon on transparent yellow with black marble and 2004's Master Of The Moon on electric blue with milky clear marble, plus the rare Electra single on a cobalt blue 7", the epic collection coincides with the upcoming release of Dio: Dreamers Never Die; the first authorised career-spanning documentary centred around the iconic frontman.

Review: The blues, like any genre, deepens for a listener the more they dig into the history and context of the music. The difference with the blues is how revolutionary, influential and essential its very emergence was. Seemingly recognising this fact, Bear Family have put together this monumental box set which goes to the very heart of the blues in Memphis and tells an exhaustive story from 1919 through 1969. They don't leave a stone unturned from those 50 years, presenting what they proclaim to be at least one side from every relevant 78 or 45 disc issued from Memphis during that period. That makes for 534 tracks across 20 CDs with an accompanying hardcover book. It's more than 25 hours which tells you all you need to know about Memphis blues.

Review: Released in the same breath as a fresh rendition of Holst's Planets suite, Deutsche Grammophon turn their attentions to the timeless efforts of German-American composer and conductor William Steinberg. After founding Command Classics, producer and record executive Enoch Light signed Steinberg as a conductor for the label. Working with engineer Bob Fine, Steinberg went on to record some remarkable albums on 35mm - a technique that offered a distinct improvement in sound over Steinberg's previous recordings. This new edition of his Boston Symphony Orchestra capturings is set to be released in multiple formats, of which this 3xLP is just a taster (albeit the best choice for audiophiles). Get a taste of Steinberg's style by listening to 'Schubert: Symphony No. 3: II Allegretto'.

Review: British and American artists working in the experimental scene were in fine fettle during the mid to late 1970s, though it is a rather under-investigated time. This new, vast and comprehensive box set from Dialogo's - made in full collaboration with all of the composers or their estates - serves up all ten of the albums Brian Eno's Obscure Records label put out. Each one has been remastered and an extensive booklet is included making this an essential collection that documents some of the most vital sounds to emerge during the second half of the 20th Century.
