Review: Swindle's No More Normal album from 2019 was a critically acclaimed affair that truly established the artist behind it. Now he returns with a follow-up album, The New World, which is another step up. It comes on limited clear vinyl in a nice gatefold with plenty of fine-featured guests such as Greentea Peng, Loyle Career and Ghetts. They all help lend the music a widescreen sound that takes in new world soul on 'What More,' sensuous broken beat with Maverick Sabre on 'Second Guess' and prickly hip-hop tinged beats on 'Lost', with plenty of great vocal turns from Loyle Carner, Kojey Radical and Jnr Williams. 'Blow Ya Trumpet' is the most streetwise sound with its booming grin and trap production and star turns from Ghetts.

This album captures his tenure at the festival over the years, and features live recordings from his performances, as well as two previously unreleased tracks. Review: Like many of his jazz contemporaries, ground-breaking fusion pioneer Chick Correa had a long and storied relationship with the Montreaux Jazz Festival. He was a regular visitor for decades, making appearances with a variety of specially assembled bands and ensembles. This fine CD gathers together some of the best of the pianist and composer's various performances at the annual event and features tracks recorded at different times between 1981 and 2010. There's some exceptional material on show, as you'd expect, including an awe-inspiring rendition of 'America (Continents, 4)' from 2006 where he was accompanied by the Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, a spellbinding 'trio' version of 'Fingerprints' from 2001, and a thrilling Chick Correa Akoustic Band take on 'Quartet No 2 (Part 1)' from 1988.

Review: Has there ever been a more influential rap record than Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five's 'The Message'? Widely considered the first 'conscious' hip-hop record thanks to lyrics that provide a searing commentary on inner-city life during the Reagan era (previously, most rap tracks had been unabashed party jams), the track's far-sighted musical backing and killer synth bassline (later the inspiration for the similarly memorable B-line in Pet Shop Boys' 'West End Girls') was also highly influential and remains seriously futurist in tone. If you don't own a copy already, we'd recommend snapping up this reissue, which also boasts (on the B-side) the lesser-celebrated, vocal-free instrumental mix.

Review: Moving away from their two-tone tingles and sauntering silliness, 'The Madness' was a thorough rebrand for the band - exploring a new name, a new sound, a rejumbled lineup, and all the new electronic music tech that te late 80s had to offer. Sounding more like Duran Duran than Madness as we know them, 'The Madness' hears a smattering of guest musicians join the party, including The Specials' Jerry Dammers on piano. It was this LP that caused such a furore at the band's Madstock festival in 1992, that a small earthquake erupted at 4.2 on the Richter scale in the London locale of Finsbury Park. Review: Given her length of service (her first appearance as a guest vocalist was way back in 1992), it seems extraordinary that The Love Invention is officially Alison Goldfrapp's debut solo album. It's a typically sparkling, colourful and entertaining affair, taking the synth-pop sound that marked out her long collaboration with Will Gregory as Goldfrapp, and injecting it with a big dose of dance-pop energy. It's hardly a radical recalibration of her sound, though the influence of some of her collaborators - most notably co-producer Richard X (who was involved in some of the album's strongest moments) - is certainly evident. Goldfrapp naturally stars throughout, channelling her inner Roisin Murphy, with highlights including the sub-heavy, house-influenced synth-pop strut of 'So Hard So Hot', the vibrant 'The Love Injection' and catchy opener 'Never Stop'.
