SE62 - "True Force"
Review: REPRESS ALERT! My Love Is Underground return with only their second release of 2013, with MLIU15 introducing the sounds of Dungeon Meat. The new collaborative endeavor between MLIU regular Brawther and Tristan Da Cunha of Back To Basics fame, Dungeon Meat live up to the brash nature of "The Fuck Off Track" with heavy hitting percussion driven house at it's finest. Look out for a label of the same name from Dungeon Meat later this year. Face down Ukrainian producer SE62 returns for MLIU duty for a third time with the hook heavy deep house burn of "True Force".

Stop Frontin'
Review: Alert house-heads worldwide. Couldn't possibly avoid their fantastic and innovating releases on the US labels Viva, Westbound and Lowdown. Only a couple of months ago the Seattle based duo Peter Christianson and Carlos Mendoza, (aka Lawnchair Generals), were responsible for remixing Swirl People's biggest record of the year "We Used To Party" featuring the all-round Chicago DJ Heather. 2005 promises much for LCG, kicking off the year with this highly anticipated two-tracker "You Got To/Stop Frontin", due out in February. It represents their first international release and is a very natural fit on the widely celebrated Aroma Records and is stated by many insiders to be their best work to date.

Review: ** Running Back Repress for the Terje Fans **Terje Olsen doesn't release many records, but when he does they tend to be pretty special. This surprise EP for Running Back is his only his fifth original single in seven years, but it's arguably his best yet. "Ragysh" is devilishly simple, a naggingly hypnotic house/ electronic disco head-nodder that builds to a gasping climax of chic, intergalactic melodies. It's partnered by "Bonysh", a dubwise beats track that ekes maximum thrills from little more than ever-changing percussion. B-side "Snooze For Love" - available in dancefloor and downtempo versions - continues the stargazing theme, offering up an uber-Balearic mix of bleep melodies, dozy chords and sleepwalking percussion.

Unapologetic Weightlessness
Review: If house music was part of your life five years ago there's every chance the dusky sounds of Pepe Bradock's "Path Of Most Resistance" lit up your dancefloor. It's a track that's as much a profound A-side on this EP as was "Deep Burnt" from his seminal Burning 12" (invertly that record's B-side). Swimsuit Issue 1789 was the last record Bradock released on Atavisme before issuing four Imbroglios 12"s during 2012 and 2013, and its B-side tracks, as you'd expect from Bradock, provide more top shelf quality. When it comes to basslines in house music "CU @ Minna & Lafayette" is a production that's up there with what Kevin Saunderson (aka Master Reese) can produce, while "Unapologetic Weightlessness" is a confused, ping ponging jumble of zany electronics lightened by the smooth cascade of a floating synth.

Review: Put simply - this is yet another 2 track dancefloor bomb. As usual when Eric Prydz makes music under his Cirez D guise, the results are truly explosive. The last 3 Mouseville releases have seen the label grow into one of the most sought after dance imprints on the planet. The secret of its success is in its crossover appeal, with yet again everyone from Pete Tong and Fergie to Carl Cox and John Digweed caning the record. The tracks themselves are massive with the A side being the harder of the 2 with its growling synth bass and massive edits and supremely clever arrangement whilst the flip is more clubby with its catchy hookline and uplifting feel.

Get On The Floor (KON remix) (10:09)
Review: Kon and Reflex combine for a cheeky 12" dedication to Michael Jackson for the fourth release on the Boston selector's increasingly on point Star Time label. Edit heaven or what? Reflex calls shotgun and reworks "PYT", amping up the vibe with much crisper drums and a whole lot more space present on that classic chorus drop. Meanwhile on the flip King Of Nothing takes "Get On The Floor" and gives it a modern day party refix complete with full-bodied dynamics, juicy slap bass and very cheeky disco bubbles in the background. Two more essential Michael Jackson edits to add to your collection.

Review: Time passes by so quickly but in case of Paul Kalkbrenner the ravages of time are actually pretty exciting. The tracks on "Keule" are not as snappy as in his younger raver years, but they do frizzle and sizzle and kick you right in the face. Paul Kalkbrenner isn't an assembly line producer who releases new records all the time. He travels and plays a lot, meets people, meets styles, works on his stuff for months and then surprises us with a new sound, that still bears the typical Kalkbrenner characteristics.

Review: Sam Shepherd has long been a master of the kind of ultra-deep, rolling, soft focus deep house that raises the spirits and soothes the soul. Even so, there's something incredibly special about "Nuits Sonores", the lead track from this must-have EP. Based around a deep, tactile groove and blessed with rising synth solos, dancing acid lines and his usual fireside Rhodes antics, the track rises magnificently for 12 spellbinding minutes. As it progresses, further elements make their way into the mix, until it reaches the kind of organic deep house climax that makes even the grumpiest souls go weak at the knees. Flip for "Nectarines", the kind of loose-limbed fusion of deep house sassiness, Detroit techno electronics and fluid jazz drumming at which Shepherd has always excelled.

Make Me Believe In You (Tom Moulton remix) (6:28)
Ain't No Love Lost (Tom Moulton remix) (5:47)
Review: Should you require further evidence of the all-round genius of Curtis Mayfield, look no further than this early '70s funk gem from Patti Jo. "Make Me Believe In You" was written and produced by the velvety-voiced musician in 1973, one of just a few singles released by Patti Jo but undoubtedly now an all-time classic. That rolling drum intro, the ear-wagging piano, the subtle orchestration and, above all, Patti Jo's killer vocal all combine for a perfect example of the halcyon days when funk was beginning to transform into disco. Mayfield himself later covered the track for the closer to his Sweet Exorcist LP! This BGP 7" sees Tom Moulton's extension of "Make Me Believe In You" combined with his remix of the other Patti Jo burner, "Ain't No Love Lost". Any self-respecting DJ needs the A-side though.

Em Vee - "Give Me Your Love"
Review: REPRESS ALERT: This time on transparent vinyl. Amsterdam dwelling editor par excellence Em Vee took the solo reigns on the inaugural Lumberjacks In Hell - and truly excelled with a great reimagination of "Miss You". The second release on the label sees the German share duties with Spanish edit demon Rayko, with the Rare Wiri boss hogging the A Side. First up is an expert rearrangement of Candi Staton's cover of the Bee Gee's standard "Nights On Broadway" which strips the track of its orchestral leanings to focus on the groove! Following this is a meaty take on a classic, with Barbara Keith's cover of "All Along The Watchtower" reinforced with some bottom end bump. Em Vee spreads a special disco version of Alma Lee's late 70s Philly delight "Gimme Your Love" with an extended intro that fully displays his edit talents.

Review: It would be fair to say that Roy Davis Jr and Peven Everett's "Gabriel" (originally written "Gabrielle" on early pressings) has become a timeless dance music classic - a track that both soulful house and UK garage DJs reach for in times of trouble. Should it not be in your collection already (and it should be), Large Music has decided to re-master and re-press the original 1996 12". It does, of course, contain the now ubiquitous "Live Garage" version - the groovy two-step, trumpet-laden mix that became popular with early UK garage DJs - plus a trio of lesser-known remixes. The Tambourine Dub, in particular, is something of a tough, warehouse-friendly deep house treat.

His mix has that summery Ibiza sound stamped all over it, from a breezy guitar riff to warm synths, tumbling bassline and the odd surprise, as the beats change into gentle breakbeats then back into the 4/4s. Playhouse darlings My My also get into the act here with a deeper and more hypnotic reduced house version that does some Crazy laptop shit to the drums, for those who like their beats clicky and freaky.

Review: Australian techno royalty Carmelo Bianchetti has put out a lot of music under the Late Night Tuff Guy alias with his 2007 tweak of Roland Clark classic "I Get Deep" among his best work. Originally released through the short lived TBot's All Nite House Party label, the track is given a timely reissue through Bianchetti's own Tuff Cut label in newly remastered form. Clark's classic vocal would be arguably be a hit over anything with a 4/4 groove, but there is something satisfying about this grimy arrangement from LNTG. Complementing this is a fresh take on the track from Sydney's Cassian.

Four tracks deep, One Night In Grodno demonstrates this pair have a firm and diverse production grasp of what's classified as underground deep house. Check the mad sax solo that breaks free on opening cut "Jazzy Things" Listen on "His Name Is Fast Eddie" reveals Four Walls and Funkyjaws find it difficult not to let their musical side take hold, though the understated diva flex of "Love Train" might be the best cut here.

Review: Repress alert! Wednesday: Hyperdub announce a new three track release from enigmatic producer Burial - his first solo work in four years. Thursday: Said records arrive on Juno doorstep. How's that for service (and secrecy)! The news came just a matter of days after the producer's collaboration with Radiohead front man Thom Yorke and Four Tet arrived on record shelves across the UK and promptly sold out amidst a frenzy of hype. There are three new tracks on offer here, namely "Street Halo", "NYC" and "Stolen Dog". First up "Street Halo" showcases the classic Burial sound; subterranean bass gurgles, trademark clicking beats and barely-there vocal snatches. A sweet childlike vocal pervades the sonic mist on "NYC" while "Stolen Dog" closes out with ethereal vocal harmonies buried deep beneath vinyl crackle. Stunning.

Review: Disco Dub Band's "For The Love of Money", a one-off collaboration between producer Davitt Sigerson and reggae musician Mike Dorane, has long been considered something of a classic by those who like their disco to come with a big dose of dub-wise flavour. Here the instrumental O'Jays cover, which originally appeared on the Movers label in 1976, is given the remix treatment by long-time fans Mr Bongo. The superb A-side, in which Dorane's instrumental talents take centre stage, naturally comes accompanied by the frequently played Dub interpretation, a typically wild and bass-heavy affair that sounds like it was mixed "live" in one take in true Lee Perry/King Tubby style. If it's not already in your collection, it should be.

Review: Dungeon Meat is the new label and production outfit brought to you by Dungeon Masters Brawther and Tristan Da Cunha. Packing a serious punch, it's aim is to present tracks designed specifically to rock the party and shake the sound system. Originally conceived as a platform for their own musical visions it soon became apparent that they would have to open the doors to a select few who shared their ambition to make no messing, hard hitting house grooves. One of these artists is the mysterious Blunt Instruments who has the honour of kicking off the label. After road testing his huge club hammer "Hold Back" Brawther and Da Cunha knew it had to be on Dungeon Meat as it epitomised exactly the sound they wanted to present. "Hold Back" has been a firm fixture in their sets and even got cut to dubplate by Jeremy Underground Paris. It's not all about the A-side though as Blunt Instruments craft 2 other killer club cuts for the flip side. We won't go on too much trying to describe how good this EP is ... instead we'll let the music do the talking.
