Review: Is there anything Will "Quantic" Holland can't do? Certainly, the multi-instrumentalist has successfully turned his hand to all manner of global styles over the years, invariably hugely successfully. 1000 Watts is the third full-length from his occasional Flowering Inferno project, which sees him blend the dub-wise riddims of the Caribbean, with the humid horns and tropical instrumentation of South American music. It's a predictably entertaining, well-made and immaculately produced set, with Holland calling on a range of collaborators (most notably U-Roy, Alice Russell and Christopher Ellis). Sure, there are few surprises, but the project's parameters are firmly set. What's offered is undeniably attractive, as if Lee 'Scratch' Perry had spent a week producing bands in Bogota.

Review: It's commonly known if you cut Will 'Quantic' Holland, he'd bleed in little Tru Thoughts logo-shaped droplets, such is the bond between the artist and label. The latest Quantic long-player for the South Coast label, A New Constellation, finds the Bogota-based musician leading a hand-picked selection of musicians called The Western Transient. Their focus? To realise a set of new compositions paying homage to the rich, lively and intimate quality of the classic soul and jazz recordings. That Holland should choose to follow his last LP, the explosive Magnetica, with 10 tracks of more traditional jazz and funk proves he's still not happy to stand still as Quantic despite having a hand in well over ten long players.

Review: Will "Quantic" Holland is a seriously talented guy. The veteran producer seems to be able to turn his hand to almost any genre, often assembling an all-new band to fit the brief. That's what he's done here, gathering together a sextet of Los Angeles-based jazz musicians under the Western Transient guise. A New Constellation, then, indulges his love of jazz, and specifically the classic material that emerged from L.A throughout the '50s, '60s and '70s. As you might expect, the playing is impeccable, with the emphasis on warm, rich sounds - think lilting horns, yearning guitar solos, rich Rhodes chords and gentle rhythms framed by his now familiar influences (bossa-nova, samba, soul, and so on).

Review: Following the success of their first collaborative album, 2017's Curao, Will 'Quantic' Holland and Colombian "folkloric" singer-songwriter India Gongora have once more joined forces for a second joint full-length. Designed as a musical exploration of "the nostalgia of impossible love", the set's uniquely eclectic, widescreen sound joins the dots between the traditional styles of Colombia's pacific coast, cumbia, rock, string-drenched South American ballads and the kind of hard-to-pigeonhole, musically intricate productions that were once the preserve of Rotary Connection's Charles Stepney. It's a terrific album all told, with Holland conjuring up genuine musical magic and Gongora delivering some of the most stunning sounding vocals of her career.

Review: This is the fourth solo album by Quantic and Will Holland's eighth full-length production. A year and a half in the making, "An Announcement To Answer" marks the next step in the evolution of Quantic's sound, broadening his musical palette whilst still delivering the trademark funky grooves that have made him a surefire floorfiller for DJs worldwide. Inspired and educated (as opposed to influenced) by the records he discovered whilst traveling and working in Puerto Rico, Nigeria, Benin, Ghana and Ethiopia, Quantic has fused the traditional sounds of these countries with hip hop, soul, funk and jazz to produce his own potent musical brew. Much of the album was written and recorded on a laptop in various locations around the world including Puerto Rico and the Candela studios in San Juan during an extended period of international gigging and crate-digging. Review: Super limited Record Store Day release from two established Tru Thoughts acts, with two exclusively live recordings of "Look Around The Corner" and a version of the gospel classic made famous by NYCC, "I'll Keep A Light In My Window". Both were recorded in one take live direct to disc (a system which bypasses the use of magnetic tape) and features Will Quantic's band Combo Barbaro, including musicians from Peru and Columbia flown over to UK especially for the recording. Both releases are simply outstanding, with Alice Russell's vocals soaring in places and gentle in others. Collectable and, quite simply, essential.

Review: Red hot repress: Quantic and Anita Tijoux's 2013 blink-and-miss 45" enjoys a sudden re-front and every ounce of cumbian soul remains intact. The lead track is still one of the best covers of Lauryn Hill on the planet while "Entre Rejas" continues to shock and awe with its sultry, siesta allure. Once again highly limited, once again a beautiful cumbia couplet. Watch out for those accordions.

Review: Well we never really saw this one coming: Quantic is a world music specialist and talented instrumentalist best known for his Cuban, Latin and Afro fusions of everything from jazz to soul. But here the man born Will Holland debuts on Will Saul's long running and suitably eclectic Aus Music with fie tracks of club ready house, but all done in his own inimitably musical style. There are steel drums on 'Let The Sparks Fly' for a tropical feel, 'Heaven Or Hell' has irresistible old school chords and well swung drums and 'Night Jaguars' is a lively bossa rhythm. 'OM617' is a fat, dubby wanderer and 'Shake Your Demons' closes down with chunky, deep and late night house vibe.

Review: Man like Quantic aka Will Holland, a real musicologist, world music maestro and bandleader, revisits one of his old tracks following a slew of other producers doing the same. That track is 'Pushin On' and here he takes its timeless Alice Russell vocal and drops it into a new beat. It's one that is swung with plenty of UKG references and is finished off with nice soft melodies up top. Add in a bit of tape hiss and some broken beats and you have an anthem in the making. Flip it over for a paired back instrumental. Either of these will be huge in the club, so do not sleep.

Taken from last year's collaborative album between Alice and Quantic, "I'd Cry" is a serenade of weeping strings and sentimental pianos coated with Alice's honey-dewed dulcets. "Here Again" is delivered on a sumptuous bed of drama. All staccato flutes, big horn back drops and more emphatic Russell goodness. Whether you have the album Look Around The Corner or not, this super-limited, lovely looking vinyl genuinely is essential.

Review: Abelardo Carbono must be one of Colombia's most legendary artists, particularly for championing the sound of "champeta", a guitar-led style that has come to represent the South American country and its music. The Names You Can Trust imprint comes through with a glorious one-tracker by Carbono himself, alongside his 'Grupo' and, unsurprisingly, the masterful modern production of Quantic. "La Pina Madura" is a beast of a track, all built with percussive glory and the fiery South American zest that is made all the more effective by Quantic's post-production work. Slightly off-kilter and irregular in its shapes, this is undoubtedly a 7" single that you will want to bust out this summer. Blazing hot!

Review: Look Around The Corner sees two of Tru Thoughts most successful artists reunite in the shape of Will Quantic Holland and Alice Russell. When the two have previously collaborated, the results have mostly been dipped in magic and lovingly various - compare the heaving funk of "Pushin On" with the more delicate "Sweet Calling". "Look Around The Corner" is the title track from the album of the same name, and it unfurls into a delightfully soulful flutter of instrumentation delivered by Quantic's world-renowned outfit the Combo Barbaro. It can't help but recall The Rotary Connection and the whole track is lifted beyond the clouds by Russell's immediately distinctive voice.

Review: A sight to cheer for any regular Tru Thoughts follower - a brand new collaboration between veteran producer Will "Quantic" Holland (now bearded and looking very much like a muso version of Eric Cantona) and regular chanteuse Alice Russell. Unlike many of their previous combined outings, Look Around The Corner largely eschews hard-boiled funk and heavy soul in favour of a looser, folksier, more organic sound clearly inspired by Rotary Connection (and in particular the production of Charles Stepney). With Quantic's Cuban backing band, Combo Barbaro, offering solid backing, and Holland himself in the control room, it's an expansive, adventurous and finely crafted album that boasts far more hits than misses.
