Review: Sound Exhibitions is back with more of that irresistible old-school dancefloor heat that comes courtesy of this new EP from Jayl Funk. It comes on a limited edition red 7" but features some seriously big sounds. The opener 'Get On Ya Feet' has vamping chords and diva vocals with big glossy strings. It's a characterful and big-hearted cut for good-time fun. 'Waiting For You' is a different proposition - it's a more funky tune with horn-laced grooves and a characterful female vocal that gets flipped into an old school hip-hop verse with dusty breaks.

It comes on limited edition red vinyl and opens up with 'I Wanna Love Ya' which is one of his signature grooves completes with snappy hits and jangling guitar lines. It's a loopy affair that bursts to life with the arrival of some big trumpets and has a throwback turn of the millennium feel. 70s Lonely Hustler' is the flipside jam and is a more organic and loose rhythm peppered with Latin energy, bird calls, tambourines and much more.

Review: After the first one at the end of last year. Italy's Sound Exhibitions is back with a second volume in their Vinyl Box series, and it's another hefty one with five 7"s all packing plenty of worldly funk heat. This time Afro Dub, Phil Disco, Spleen Underground Music and Vincenzo Viceversa all offer up a wealth of instrumental tracks that take a wide range of cues. There are nods to 60s spy themes, Afro rhythms and Latin scenes with plenty of percussive flair, rugged funky basslines and soaring guitar licks. It's effective, quality stuff that sure will bring the funk to the floor.

Review: Last time out, Afro Dub shared vinyl space with fellow Italian scene stalwart LTG. Here the Sound Exhibitions stalwart returns to the long-running label with a quartet of heavyweight-funk inspired rubs. He opens with the low-slung Afro-cosmic meets dub disco flex of "Funk Premier", before emphasizing sweaty funk breaks, weighty bass guitar, wah-wah licks and bold pianos on the arguably even better "Funk Small". Over on the flip, "Funk Business" is a delightfully jaunty funk re-edit laden with heavy Hammond licks, eyes-closed guitar solos, wild electric piano and elastic slap-bass, while "Break of Day" is a drum solo-and-fills driven funk-rock romp that should fire up even the most sluggish of dancefloors.

Review: Monsieur Van Pratt is a self-taught musician, producer and DJ from Mexico who has a clear love of disco, funk, soul and jazz of the 70s and 80s . He distils all that into his own floor-facing tunes with a big helping of charm making them irresistible to both DJs and dancers. He opens this tidy new 7" with 'This Jazz' which has playful sax riffs and chunky, convoluted drum tumbles that never quit. It's bouncy as a ball and packed with disco heat. 'Groove Lesson' is another devastatingly simple but effective tune with trillion guitar motifs, hip swing claps and disco chords underpinned by a perfeclty knotted and soulful bassline.

Review: Slapping nu-disco 1s and 2s on this 7" from best buds Luciano FM and Stradivarius. Both tracks pacing themselves in equal measure, 'Mayday Off' is like the soundtrack to chill time; tuning out while some raucous tragedy occurs in the distance. Through the fog of its bass and echoed guitars, the mix is a pleasant, time-slowed blur. 'Nu Cafe', meanwhile, somehow manages to slow the tempo yet lift the mood, with an 8-bit instrumental nestling nippy hi-hats, breaths and clavichords in a sea of parasympathetic bliss.

Review: Vito Lalinga has been turning out a mix of Afro, disco, funk and soul grooves, edits, originals and remixes for the last couple of years on labels like Legofunk, Timewarp and Irma Records. This time out on his third and final EP of 2021, attention turns to the late great Afrobeat king Fela Kuti. 'Fela Madness' is a tribute track with tight stick work, tumbling drums and sensuous horns lacing the whole affair together in authentic Fela fashion. On the flip of this limited edition green vinyl 7" is a Santoro Afro Touch mix that beefs up the drums to make them that bit more heavy, club-ready and contemporary.

Review: Sound Exhibitions Records gets those rumps wiggling immediately as soon as the first kicks land on the opening tune of this latest 12". It's a C Da Afro special that bottles up timeless house and disco influences into something new and full of diva-energy and glossy synth strings. 'Lovely Boogie' is just that with its funky bass and pixelated stabs. 'Into The Disco Scene' then picks it up with some fleshy drums and twinkling chords all finished with a monologue about different musical forms over the top.

Review: Christos Antoniou aka C. Da Afro has been serving up his heartfelt house and disco sounds for almost a decade now. A prolific producer with almost 30 EPs to his name, his latest one for Sound Exhibition opens with a fine disco and house fusion. 'Outside The Box' is a floor-filling jam with big house drums that throw it back to 90s New York. Dazzling cosmic synths further light up the grooves with some well placed vocal samples. 'Speed Dial' then gets all mad funky, with chunky, heavy drums and an impassioned vocal that is raw, unfiltered and lived in. Two real party starters for New Year's Eve and beyond.

There are five 7"s in all and a wide range of styles from the pumping disco funk of Luciano FM's opener 'Fly Guy' to the more deep house leaning grooves of Mosaik's 'Pazarski Den' (Chicago Beatdown). Jazzed up disco and infectious hand claps get the party going on Monsieur Van Pratt's 'This Jazz (For Jorman)' and there is also some seductive slow motion beatdown from friends and long time musical collaborators Luciano FM & Stradivarius on their 'Nu Cafe.'
