‘Irrbloss’ is Swedish for the natural phenomenon known in English as a will-o’-the-wisp, a ghostly light that hovers over swampland. Heavily referenced in folklore, it was thought to be a fairy or undeparted soul acting as a fickle beacon for travellers, leading them to safety or to a murky demise. In a recent interview, Dorisburg said, “I am attracted to that which lies on the border between the beautiful and the unknown.” His music is located in this liminal space where beauty is inextricable from danger. The folkloric slant hints at the undercurrents of mysticism in his sound.
Irrbloss is the Swedish producer’s first album under his current alias.

The Spanish label’s last release of the year introduces the Danish newcomer.
Deborah Eisenberg’s short story Twilight of the Superheroes gives us a glimpse into the life of Passivity Man, the world’s most passive aggressive superhero. He sleeps when he’s stressed, chain-smokes constantly, and sports the dismal catch phrase “but, like, what am I supposed to do about it?” as if it means something. Eisenberg is trying to show that it’s much harder to believe in superheroes in a world riddled by inequality, terrorism, Ebola and suffering, and her writing seems like an oddly apt descriptor of Talaboman, who sounds like a cape-sporting vigilante in name only. Instead of providing humanity with something to believe in, the duo of Axel Boman and John Talabot are much more concerned with lurking in the shadows of dingy dancefloors worldwide; mixing a prickly dystopian discomfort with unexpected adrenaline-inducing moments of energy. If the duo were a superhero, it’s much more likely that they’d be some scraggly, unshaven incarnation of Doctor Strange than a do-gooder like Spiderman.
John Talabot and Locked Groove have remixed the highly prized track for a upcoming Hivern Discs 12” release.
The partnership of John Talabot and Axel Boman will release their first record in August.
John Talabot knows when to hold back and when to go all-out. Take the Barcelona-based producer’s recent DJ Kicks mix: Full of deftly executed oddball Balearic, Pye Corner Audio tracks, and over seven minutes of Madteo’s twisted vocals repeating overtop themselves- it’s a mix that sneaks up on you, sublimely gelling together into a cohesive whole as if it’s a 3D Magic Eye suddenly coming into focus. While Talabot has exercised the same careful curation in his Hivern Discs label over the years, he’s not afraid to balance oddball late-hours house with peak-time party gluttony, as his freestyle-inspired edit of T.T’s “Party Girl” showcases.
The new project from Marc Piñol and Hugo Capablanca will debut on the Barcelona-based label next month.
John Talabot’s Hivern Discs has been building an impressive reputation for some time, but 2013 was arguably the year the label came of age. Although the Barcelona-based imprint’s releases have been sporadic over the last 12 months, they’ve never been anything less than impressive. They’ve touched on many bases, too, from the saucer-eyed, dreamy positivity of Aster’s “Cielo” (backed by a typically bumping, no-nonsense remix from hipster revivalists Bicep) and warm analogue fuzz of New Jackson’s woozy deep house gem “Sat Here Waiting”, to the robotnik rhythms, new wave vocals and darkroom pulse of Legowelt, Marc Pional and Henrich Mueller’s remixes of Fasenuova’s “Cachita Turulo”.
