Alessandro Cortini returns with SPIE

The upcoming 12″ is his second release for North Carolina label Make Noise Records.

Alessandro Cortini’s name has become a regular fixture on the European and international festival circuit of late – he was among the acts performing on the opening night of Dekmantel Festival this past week. Event organisers are clearly keen to see how the Italian’s mastery of his tools translates to the live stage. It’s no surprise then that Cortini’s recorded output has been notably quiet this year as a result of his live schedule; the one real contribution of note being his involvement in a rather weighty three hour, quadruple cassette box set on Hospital Productions alongside Regis, Kevin Drumm, Lussuria and Dominick Fernow in Prurient mode.

The end of the month will see some new Cortini material surface on the Make Noise Records label out of Ashville, North Carolina, associated with the modular synth company of the same name. Active since 2012, the label has previously put out music by modular cognoscenti such as Richard Devine, Keith Fullerton-Whitman and Cortini himself under the Shared System Series banner; named so as each artist’s compositions utilises the same electronic musical instrument, Make Noise’s modular synth Shared System. SPIE represents the first 12″ Cortini has put out under his given name and is the result of the producer firing up his own Shared System to create two variations of a patch that the label compare to a “a gorgeous sunrise over a decimated landscape.”

Make Noise Records will release SPIE by Alessandro Cortini on August 26.
