The collaboration from Afrikan Sciences and Gaël Segalen will surface on the Edinburgh label with a self-titled LP in August.
The past few years have seen some special album projects arrive courtesy of Firecracker Recordings, be it a sizeable rifle through the Vakula archives, a long-overdue second long-player from Linkwood or the rich synth meanderings of Italian artist Panoram. We should also add the Highlands-inspired Mac-talla Nan Creag compilation to this small but storied list of album-length excursions. News now arrives of another potentially-thrilling album offering in the works from Firecracker which throws the focus on the Franco-American collaboration Les Graciés from Afrikan Sciences producer Eric Douglas Porter, and Gaël Segalen, who also composes under the name IhearU.
Of the two, Porter will be the more familiar name thanks to his rich body of work for the Deepblak label and one of our favourite PAN releases of recent times in the 2014 LP Circuitous. He has however been collaborating with Segalen as Les Graciés for the past four years, with the pair describing the project as a “wild and mad process in an attempt to capture a moment of eternity.” With little recorded output to their name, though there is plenty to immerse yourself in on the Les Graciés SoundCloud, the upcoming self-titled album makes for quite a statement with Firecracker telling us to expect “polyrhythmic and hypnotic groove, experimental beats free of tempo and meter.” You can get a taste of what to expect from the seven-track album on the below 10-minute preview.
Firecracker Recordings will release Les Graciés by Les Graciés in early August.
