I.B.M. retrospective due on Interdimensional Transmissions

A decades worth of Insane Black Man recordings by Jamal Moss will be compiled on the forthcoming From The Land Of Rape & Honey (The Suppressed Tapes ) 1995-2005.

Out of the many head-spinning aliases that Jamal Moss employs, I.B.M (short for Insane Black Man) has always seemed like his conduit for whatever industrial influences linger in his bones. As the recently released Medusa’s Tribute Selection cassette mix will testify, the Chicago nightclub Medusa’s was instrumental in that part of his musical education in the ’80s, and he’s not been afraid to pay tribute to that in one of the many facets of his dynamic career. The first I.B.M. release was called My Life As A Skinny Puppy no less, so that should be all the proof you need. More recently the project manifested with the brilliantly titled Eat My Fuck double LP, which came out on the +++ sublabel of Mathematics. Interdimensional Transmissions meanwhile worked with Moss on the I.B.M. single Kill Bill which was given a much needed reissue earlier this year. Much of the recent output of Ectomorph’s label has focused on BMG and Erika from the group working on solo releases.

In another gauche tribute to the forefathers of industrial music, Moss has titled his new compilation of industrial abrasions From The Land Of Rape & Honey (The Suppressed Tapes) 1995 – 2005, in a clear nod to a seminal Ministry album. It sounds like the process of selecting and restoring the audio has been a painstaking one, with sources varying from Mini Disc to VHS. Neel at Enisslab in Rome did most of the work on the restoring the audio, with two tracks also receiving further treatment from Carl at Tru Tone before the final mastering stage. It’s a rough and ready affair (when isn’t it with Jamal Moss?) and it certainly represents a twisted abstraction of any industrial influences that may have lingered at the start of the creative process. Such unpredictability is exactly why we’ll never tire of the man and his ceaseless stream of music.

Interdimensional Transmissions will release From The Land Of Rape & Honey (The Suppressed Tapes ) 1995-2005 by Insane Black Man on September 21.
