Stream: Bourbonese Qualk – God with Us
Acquaint yourselves with the long running UK industrial band ahead of a forthcoming Mannequin retrospective.
Last seen proving the industrial credentials of ’80s era Turin on a rather superb retrospective look at Musumeci’s Der Zeltweg label, Mannequin are set to avert attentions to a similar period in English music on a forthcoming compilation of material by Bourbonese Qualk. Taking the self-explanatory title Bourbonese Qualk 1983-1987, the upcoming release focuses on a period when the Southport band were particularly active with core trio Simon Crab, Julian Gilbert and Steven Tanza responsible for five albums. At some 26 tracks deep, it feels like Mannequin are looking to offer conclusive proof that Bourbonese Qualk represent the very essence of English industrial music.
The release of Bourbonese Qualk 1983-1987 will be preceded by a 12″ that sees the wholly appropriate Ancient Methods rework the band’s track “Lies” twice and you can hear one of those here. We’ve however opted to unveil a track from the full compilation in “God With Us” which originates from their 1983 LP Laughing Afternoon and suggests fragments of their musical legacy has spread deep into the DNA of modern electronic music.
