Surgeon announces SRX reissue series

Early, rare and unreleased works from Surgeon will feature across a series of six releases on the producer’s dedicated SRX label.

Fresh from the news that Anthony Child will make his official debut on Belgian techno label Token comes details of a series of archival releases that lay the focus squarely on Surgeon’s earliest recordings. A post on Surgeon’s own blog, Back In The Grinder, details the project fully, revealing that the he was taken aback with the clarity and dynamism of his early productions discovered whilst searching through his archive of DAT Tapes:

“Those early tracks, recorded 20 years ago, were mastered and cut by people who had no understanding of electronic music. I actually remember cutting a dubplate back then and being asked if my track was ‘supposed to sound like that?’ The engineer was so disgusted at my music that once the cut started he left the room until it was finished.”

Child goes on to state that because some of these early releases have been repressed many times over from the original mastered versions, he felt it was time to remaster and recut them from these original dynamic sounding DAT tapes. Working closely with long term mastering companion Christoph Grote-Beverborg of D&M Berlin, Child is set to release these recordings over six 12″s on the newly formed SRX label. The series will launch next month with the 1994 Magneze 12″ on Downwards reissued as the Surgeon EP, and Child promises future releases in the series will feature “high-quality unreleased tracks from that time as well as releases that had only been issued in limited pressings”.

From a design perspective, Child has commissioned Ken Meier and Yoonjai Choi from the NYC-based Common Name agency to draw up some “sumptuous sleeve art” which can be viewed below.

SRX will launch with the Surgeon EP by Surgeon on September 15 in vinyl and digital format with the former including download codes.
