L.A. synth pop duo Classixx will release their debut LP Hanging Gardens via the Innovative Leisure imprint.
Formed of Michael David & Tyler Blake, Classixx are probably best know for their remix talents, a sun kissed take on Phoenix’s sublime “Listomania” for Kitsune being the most memorable whilst credits on releases for DFA, Modular, Throne Of Blood and Stones Throw demonstrate their wide appeal. The aforementioned French boutique label Kitsuné have been integral to helping establish Classix as original producers too, unveiling the catchy “I’ll Get You” back in 2009 and surrounding it with the requisite clutch of remixes.
An updated take on this track features on the forthcoming album Hanging Gardens, which also features both tracks from the Holding On single that Innovative Leisure released last month. Excitingly, Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem and The Juan Maclean fame has contributed vocals on “All You’re Waiting For” whilst there are further collaborations with Active Child and Superhumanoids singer Sarah Chernoff.
A press release likens Hanging Gardens to the similarly pop-minded melancholics of Fleetwood Mac and Prince, as well as French house acts Alan Braxe and Fred Falke. Like much of the music to surface from California, the beach, summer and warm breezes also inspired the album. Produced in Classixx’s Venice Beach studio, the duo say they have created a “very gear-heavy record”, knuckling down on an arsenal of vintage synths and classic drum machines, as well as a indigenous Central American drum with a fuzzy hot pink mallet, said to be David and Blake’s favourite instrument used frequently throughout the album.
Innovative Leisure will release Hanging Gardens by Classix on June 3.
