Hotflush Recordings have cornered Hivern artist John Talabot and Jon Convex to remix “Sex Drive”, the third single to be taken from Jimmy Edgar’s Majenta LP.
The commission of remixes from Convex and Talabot comes after both have released well received debut albums this year, and the latter is a particularly intriguing one, certainly not the sort of name you would have envisaged on Hotflush two years ago. But then, Hotflush are on an interesting trajectory so far in 2012, with the aforementioned Edgar LP and Scuba’s somewhat divisive album Personality complemented by a diverse array of dance floor orientated twelve inch releases from the likes of Locked Groove, Guy Andrews and Lando Kal with more recent label additions in the shape of Recondite and the mysterious NefferTT – allegedly two established artists collaborating under a new obscure pseudonym.
In original format, the vocoder heavy track was a typical slice of sleazy electro funk from Detroit native Edgar which was given an extra edge by the J.G. Ballard-inspired lyrics of car-crash sexual fetishism, and its stripped back nature makes it ripe for reinvention. Jon Convex aka former Instra:mental producer Damon Kirkham has delivered two 303 heavy remixes (with the latter dub a digital only inclusion) whilst Talabot goes epic with a nine minute self dubbed “In Aguirre” effort – you can stream the Jon Convex remix below.
Hotflush will release Sex Drive by Jimmy Edgar across 12″ and digital formats on October 8.
