Strut unveil third Horse Meat Disco compilation

The Vauxhall epicentre of all things disco that is Horse Meat Disco will present a third edition of their popular mix series for Strut Records later this summer – with the two disc edition presenting a slight variation in theme.

Since their humble beginnings in a Vauxhall pub one Sunday some seven years ago, the collective of James Hillard, Severino, Filthy Luka and Jim Stanton find themselves at their most popular right now with a whole slew of international dates on the horizon over the coming months. From perusing the tracklist for the upcoming compilation, it’s clear they want to retain a certain freshness in approach.

Whereas the two previous Horse Meat Disco compilation mixes have demonstrated the veteran London collective’s deep knowledge and collection of rare underground NYC disco and boogie, the third edition sees more contemporary sounds enter the selection process for the opening set. Alongside recent productions from the likes of Tom Trago, Wild Geese and the collaborative ode to New York from DJ Rocca and Dimitri From Paris, there are edits of Salsoul classics from Stupid Human and Terje as well as a smattering of mid 90s UK house.

In contrast to the peak time selection of the first CD, the second disc offers a slower saunter through 80s mid tempo sleaze with soul-tinged disco from the likes of Idris Muhammed and Sylvester expertly teased into forgotten Factory Records classics, hi-energy and classic boogie as well as Two Tons Of Fun – the original incarnation of The Weather Girls. Fans of disco trivia will no doubt be further excited by the news that Berlin dwelling Balihu boss, DJ, journalist and close HMD friend Daniel Wang has been enlisted to provide the extensive sleeve notes.

Strut Records will release Horse Meat Disco III across double CD, 2 x LP and digital formats on July 4.
