Watch: New Aphex Twin video

afx seaside specials from afx seaside specials on Vimeo.

A new and unsurprisingly weird video of Aphex Twin has popped up, accompanied by a hint that the mysterious Richard D. James will be performing at next year’s Bloc festival (via Fact).

The minute and a half clip, entitled Seaside Specials, sees the still-scary-after-all-these-years Aphex face invade otherwise tranquil home camera footage of children at a fair, before things take a turn for the twisted at a rave. This is played out to boisterous jungle track “Vase” by dgoHn, first released in 2005.

The video ends with the date 12 March 2011 appearing on the screen. With the 2011 Bloc fest due to take place at Butlins’ Resort in Minehead from March 11-13, and the promotion company who leaked the video also involved with Bloc, we’ll let you decide what it all means. Dopplereffekt, LFO, Claude VonStroke, Moderat, Digital Mystikz and Black Devil Disco Club are among the names already announced for the event.

AFX recently dropped a bombshell in an interview with Another Man magazine, claiming he had six albums worth of unreleased material ready to go. “Two are very non-commercial, abstract, modular-synthesis field recordings,” he said.

“Another one is Melodies From Mars, which I redid about three years ago. There’s one of stuff I won’t go into: a comp of old tracks which is never really finished and always changing. And then one I’m working on now. There are also loads of tracks which don’t belong anywhere.”

When – or indeed if – those surface remains to be seen, however some of the new material was showcased during James’ live shows this year (more on that here).
