Erol Alkan returns to 6Music

It was announced today that BBC 6Music have welcomed Erol Alkan back to the station, with the hugely popular DJ, producer and record label impresario to return on Sunday November 28.

Alkan’s much loved two hour 6mix show was last broadcast in June this year at the height of uncertainty regarding the future of the station, and his return is just one of a number of Winter shows unveiled by the digital station today.  Buzzin’ Fly boss Ben Watt will introduce a  series exploring the past of underground electronic music and discussing its future.  Further highlights include Andrew Weatherall taking a closer look at Primal Scream’s seminal album Screamadelica and a show on the art of the remix featuring LCD Soundsystem, Armand Van Helden, Leftfield and more.

A Chillwave special presented by Neon Indian demonstrates however that 6Music doesn’t always get it right (Chillwave is a bit 2009  – we’re  on Witch House and future bass now!).

It is the return of Phantasy Sound boss Erol Alkan for a six part series set to broadcast on a monthly basis that is most anticipated. During the first season of his 6Mixes, Alkan was given the freedom to play whatever he liked and helped showcase a variety of sounds as well as providing and element of intrigue via the 30 minute mystery mixes which closed each show.

Clearly excited by his return, Erol said: “The 6 Mix have been kind enough to give me full musical freedom, which means I can play whatever music I find genuinely exiting. From the latest club cuts right through to obscure psychedelic gems from the Sixties, my aim is to broadcast two hours of the best music you have probably never heard before.”

Welcome back Erol!
