A huge amount of releases came through the door marked Juno this week, with Running Back, Eglo, Hyperdub, Ostgut Ton and Night Slugs among the labels getting in on the action.
At Juno Download, we were particularly excited by the tenth release on Eglo, the label birthed by Floating Points and Alexander Nut, who brought us another effortless slab of brilliance from FunkinEven. “Heart Pound” sees the London producer go off on an acid-inspired tangent, with a classic 303 synth squall running the show, ably supported by galloping snares and a rock-solid kick. Check it out.
Elsewhere Italian techno don Marco Passarani joined Gerd Janson’s Running Back squadron, while the busiest man in deep house Red Rack’em released some dope tunes on Hometaping Is Killing Music (he also released a CD of his early house, boogie and disco jams here).
Meanwhile over at Juno Records, it was all about Brooklyn duo Bim Marx, aka NYC nightlife icon Duane Harriet and Professor Genius, who made a welcome return to Jerome Deradji’s Stilove4Music imprint. “Make It Hot” typifies the Bim Marx sound perfectly, a dirty raw uptempo jam that’s heavily edited but retains the soul of the source material.
Elsewhere there was some more tasty Jus-Ed business on Underground Quality (with a Levon Vincent remix thank you very much), a new Innervisions 12″ featuring Henrik Schwarz and The Knife’s Olof Dreijer on remix duties, another slice of dancefloor weaponry from the Night Slugs camp and some lovely Thievery Corporation “Best Of” business on coloured vinyl. That’s not even the half of it, but you get the idea.
As always, happy hunting.
