Sub:stance celebrates 2nd birthday
The revered Sub:stance party will celebrate its second birthday in style with a takeover of its Berlin HQ, Berghain.
Paul Rose (aka Scuba, pictured above) and Paul Fowler relocated from London to Berlin in late 2007 and set about working as matchmakers for the now blossoming romance between UK bass music and German techno. Their Sub:stance night, which began in Berlin in July 2008, is celebrated as the catalyst that brought the two genres together.
To celebrate this, a birthday bash will be held on July 9, across both Berghain and Panorama. The party will have a distinctly British hue, with UK acts Mala, Mount Kimbie, Appleblim and the Idjut Boys all set to take part in the Berghain/Panoramabar takeover. They will be joined by German legend and Ableton pioneer Monolake (aka Robert Henke), while Rose will play as Scuba downstairs before putting on his techno hat with SCB written on it and running up to the Panoramabar to perform.
