Review: Regarded by dub lovers as a seminal collection, this three CD epic has been unavailable for a quarter of a century. It draws together three hugely important dub albums and includes seven previously unreleased tracks from the band's heyday from 1950 to 1975. Promoter, producer and DJ Arthur "Duke" Reid was a master of this form and a hero in Jamaica: his sound ruled the local dance halls and much of it was engineered by Errol Brown. You can hear his skills in all of the tracks here - the subtle keys, the sliding hi hats and the rolling drums all exude a perfectly inviting warmth.

Review: Alexander Khaliulin first donned the Flying Cobra alias earlier this year for an album on Space Of Variants that neatly showcased his seemingly innate grasp of atmospheric dub techno soundscapes. "Flowers Decay Quickly" is the producer's surprisingly speedy follow-up. It's another heady and intoxicating affair, with Khaliulin sashaying between the languid, head-in-the-clouds ambient of "Emanation", the gentle but hypnotic dub techno shapes of "Sleepless" and "Way Above", the sun-kissed laziness of "Night Walk" and the fantastically dubbed-out, slow motion soundscapes such as yearning closing cut "Light Of Truth Has Gone Out".

Review: Jamaica's Royal Soldier is the king of contemporary lovers rock and his new album Jah Cure deals with, as the title suggests, modern life as a soldier, as well as issues of love and consciousness. Across the 14 tracks, his forlorn croonings are complimented by guest spots from heavyweights like Damian Marley on the ganga ode that is "Marijuana", Tory Lanez on dancehall cut "Magic" and Popcaan & Padrino on "Life Is Real", a crisp bit of Caribbean trap. Elsewhere, classic roots bleeds into modern day r&b to make for a genre-crossing work that will earn the man behind it plenty of plaudits, as well as new fans.

Review: This coming together of two dub and reggae giants might never have been heard had it not been unearthed in some long-forgotten vaults. Originally recorded at some unknown point in the seventies, it follows their debut album Ital Dub, and later King Tubby Meets The Rockers, and is just as vital. Lead by the trademark harmonica expressions of Pablo, with the contagious rhythms of Tubby, it is a free flowing record that explores a number of different moods and grooves from deep and hazy to more life affirming and direct. As a result, it keeps you utterly locked throughout.

Review: Jamaican legend Lee Scratch Perry is, to say the least, eccentric, yet despite his love of the herb and advancing years, he is still turning out plenty of essential material. This is a brand new collaboration with New Jersey producer Mr. Green that delivers on each of the 18 tracks. Perry can be heard muttering on many of the tracks - making drum sounds, talking about love - and what goes on around him ranges from authentic dub to more electronic, rock tinged and contemporary styles. It's a fascinating juxtaposition that keeps the legendary Perry right at the forefront of dub.

Review: Spragga Benz first made his mark in the mid-1990s, rising to become one of Jamaica's leading dancehall and reggae artists at the turn of the century. He's been rather quiet of late, though, with "Chiliagon" marking his first album release for almost a decade. It naturally includes plenty of auto-tune-laden contemporary updates of his dancehall sound - with his trademark flow often laden in auto-tune and other digital effects - but also touches on more traditional roots reggae, ragga, full band hybrid hip-hop/rock (intriguing opener "Move To The Music (feat Rebel AC)"), ragga-jungle ("If Yuh Ready" with General Levy), grime ("Hustle and Flow") and the kind of ragged, punchy, heavily electronic club fare popularized by Switch and Diplo's Major Laser project.

Review: This double CD set draws together some of the most lauded, late 1970s productions from Linval Thompson, a roots, dub and dancehall stalwart whose music - and the artists he worked for - was championed by Trojan Records. On CD one you'll find two key albums: fine 1977 solo set "I Love Marijuana", whose dub-wise roots rhythms were laid down by a backing band including Wailers member Aston "Family Man" Barrett and Sly & Robbie, and the much more dubbed-out and intoxicatingly heavy "African Princess" (1978) by leading Jamaican toaster Big Joe. Disc two boasts the dub/early dancehall fusion of Trinity's similarly inclined 1979 classic "Rock In The Ghetto" as well as eight rare (and exceptionally good) extended mixes plucked from various Thompson-produced releases.

Review: Classics are classics for a reason, and this compilation champions them across a whopping 3-disc set. All four sides are jam packed with firm reggae favourites from Bob Marley's stirring "Soul Rebel" to the buttery croons of Gregory Isaacs on "Babylon Too Rough". Mick Hucknall's inclusion will raise some eyebrows, but there is no denying his version of "Night Nurse" with Sly & Robbie has something going on. Smokers will delight in ganga odes from Eek-a-mouse and the lovable innocence of The Congos hit "La La Bam-Bam" will always have a place in anyone's affections.

Review: The Studio One catalogue is the gift that keeps on giving, and Soul Jazz continually play Santa. This latest comprehensive collection is a great compilation of some of the best DJs and MCs to have been involved in reggae. Vital Jamaican stars like Dillinger, Prince Jazzbo and Lone Ranger all feature next to more hardcore names and some choice rare cuts. Spanning the 70s and into the mid-1980s, this 18-track offering gives a glimpse into the evolution of reggae to more digital and dancehall styles that come later, all with specially commissioned sleeve notes by Fashion Records head honcho Chris Lane.

Review: Picture the scene: it's the late 60s, reggae is swiftly evolving into rocksteady as a new wave of artists bring fresh influences to their sounds. Most of them are recorded, pressed and sold on Orange Street in Kingston, Jamaica, which was the epicentre of the reggae world at the time. Famous plugger Bunny Lee was the man who made hits of many of the tunes and this new compilation pulls together fourteen (and three bonus) highlights of the era. Crackling rhythms, skilled musicianship and stories of daily lives characterise this most colourful and transportive of collections which will leave you feeling nicely detached from the hustle and bustle of fast paced modern life.
