Review: Carlton & The Shoes were a Jamaican vocal group also known as The Manning Brothers. After debuting on Studio One in 1978, they followed up in 1982 with This Heart Of Mine, a now much sought-after slice of sweet, heavy lovers rock and roots for serious reggae diggers. Japanese label Overheat are doing the right thing and reissuing this absolute treasure of a record on the 40th anniversary of its release, letting smouldering joints like 'Never Give Your Heart Away' come back to life and charm a whole new audience.

Review: This 1978 gem from the legendary dub band The Upsetters gets a top reissue job on limited and numbered heavyweight orange vinyl. That is the perfect medium to experience these heavy dubs - many of which have been crafted by the late great Lee "Scratch" Perry. Originally this one came in small numbers as a Jamaica-only press but was then reissued by Trojan. Next to originals by The Upsetters are feature tracks by Dillinger and Sir Lord Comic. A real doozy, then, with a custom-made new sleeve.

Review: A shining example of soundtrack reggae, 'Sally's Song' was first incarnated in an unlikely spectacle: Tim Burton's A Nightmare Before Christmas. Originally composed by the film's scorer Danny Elfman, reggae reinterpreters Aanant Pradhan and Larry McDonald (of Skatalites fame) here lay down a dour dub cover version. Wistful, moody and clean. The B-side, meanwhile, shows off the pair's knowledge of film music even further - Henry Mancini's 'It Had Better Be Tonight' from the 1963 version of The Pink Panther makes similar waves as a kettle-drum heavy dub version.

Review: Reportedly written and recorded after hearing The Clash's cover of Junior Murvin's 'Police & Thieves', 'Punky Reggae Party' isn't one of the more celebrated releases in Bob Marley's discography. Yet there's so much to like about it, as this reissue of the original Jamaican 12" proves. For starters, it saw Marley and the Wailers reunite in the studio with legendary producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry, whose stylistic ticks and subtle touches are evident throughout. It was produced in 1977 at height of disco fever (something Perry was particularly suspicious of, believing that it was leading Rastafarian youths astray) and the A-side is a genuinely epic reggae 'disco mix' that rolls out to nine minutes and includes some fine scat freestyling from Marley. The similarly epic flip-side dub is not Perry's wildest, but undeniably dancefloor ready.

Review: Junior Dell & The Delights are back with a mighty fine new single that comes imbued with plenty of proper good old school ska and reggae values. It's an upbeat rhythm that will get you on your toes with its energetic horns and riffs, swaggering drums and superb vocal work. On the flip of this limited 7" is, of course, 'In A While Crocodile'. It's a continuation of the a-side with just as much swagger and energy. Both tunes are essential and mark another fine drop from this great modern day outfit.

Review: Johnny Powell's 'Moving Out' is a killer reggae classic, charting the 80s dubstar's staunch decision to move "way out, way out, way out" of Babylon, after much abuse by the figurative city of vice. Against a wicked riddim by an unknown production crew, we've got laboured horns, ghostly vocals and snake-rattles, all of which make this a certain addition to the ranks of the politically charged reggae and ska of the time. Review: Shanty Town was the debut album by the legends in the making of the reggae world that are Desmond Dekker and his Aces aka Wilson James and Easton Barrington Howard. It's an album that shows how ska from the mid-60s had an influence on the rocksteady sound and as well as the 'Spanky Town' classic you'll hear gems like 'Israelites' from 1968 and 'It Miek' from 1969.

Review: Widely lauded as the greatest female singer in the history of Jamaican music, Griffiths emerged onto the Jamaican music scene during the late 60s. Review: The voice of reggae that, if anything, seems to grow louder and more prominent with every passing year since his death, recorded this live album back in 1975. Bob Marley & the Wailers' Live! features the complete sets from both July 1975 shows they played in London at the Lyceum Theatre. The reissued version builds on the original reals which has just seven tunes from the second night by adding a further 15 to make it a complete document of the two memorable nights that were said to be so over subscribed some fans climbed onto the venue's roof to listen through an open hatch. The limited and numbered vinyl comes with a booklet with extra context.

Review: Delroy Wilson's Live As One was originally only put out as part of a white label run on Waricka Records. It had a slightly different tack listing and was produced by Sir Collins. It's an archetypal mid-70s roots record before the rockers sound came into it and finds Delroy himself in powerful form. Some of the gems include come 'Into My World', 'Baby Love' and 'You Keep On Running' amongst others. This version is a great pressing with a new cover and makes up for the fact that an original is mega rare and pricey.
